Recruitment is now closed.

HyperJar is looking for Mumsnet users to test a new money management app that lets you plan, budget and grow your spending power in Jars. Please note this app is NOT a replacement for your bank account and will NOT affect your credit score. For more information on HyperJar, check out the website here.

Selected testers will be required to:

  • Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, sign up and order a HyperJar card (it takes about a week to arrive)
  • Create a Jar so that HyperJar can send £10 to your new account to spend using the app, wherever you like
  • Transfer some money from your bank to your HyperJar account. This can be spent wherever you’d usually spend – no need to change shopping habits
  • Start testing out the app (instructions on exactly how to do this will be sent to testers)

We’d like you to test HyperJar over four weeks. Once the test is over, if you don’t want to carry on using HyperJar, they will close your account and help you transfer any money you haven’t spent back into your bank account.

Here is how HyperJar describes itself: “HyperJar is the world’s smartest payment app. An easy, digital version of jam-jar budgeting. The Jars you create reflect your life, your spending and your goals. Jars for groceries, lunches, Christmas, kids’ clubs, nights out, holidays… With HyperJar, you can see where your money is going, not just where it went.

“So why use HyperJar? 1. Clearer, easier, happier money when you plan in Jars. For groceries, lunches, holidays. For life. 2. Shared spending, solved. Plan and spend together with Group Jars. Easy pop-up joint accounts and digital kitties for 2-30 people. 3. Make planning pay with our partners. Lock in money with them for an inflation-beating Annual Growth Rate of 4.8%. 4. Spend directly from any Jar with the world’s smartest payment card.”

Selected testers will be required to leave feedback on a private thread on Mumsnet as well as complete a short survey. All testers who do will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher each of their choice (from a list).

Please don’t download the app directly from the App Store if you want to take part in this test – HyperJar are waiting to finish a few features which will be ready for Mumsnet users by the time we’ve selected our testers.

If you would like to sign up to test this app, please click here.

Thanks and good luck.

Got my card and ten pounds is loaded after using the live chat facility. So far impressed with their customer service, now to get using it Smile

Well I finally got the app downloaded today. There was apparently some glitch that meant I was unable to download it and it took them over 11 days to fix it.

Not overly impressed so far, although the customer services have always been very polite and apologetic

Agreed how does the 4.8% Lidl thing work?

@VeganCow and @PJ04JCW - you can find more information about the 4.8% AGR on HyperJar's webpage here. If you would like to discuss this (or any other queries) with HyperJar, feel free to get in touch using their in app live support service Smile

Tried using it a bit adhoc the last week or so and didn't go that well. I think it is much more suited to a whole months budget so that is the plan this month. Paid my bills and now the rest is in HyperJar so I can test it out a bit more. I haven't gone so far as the shop specific jars yet.

Well I finally activated my card this morning so will see how it goes. Also had to pay £2 postage to receive but I complained to Hyperjar and asked them to refund - they responded very quickly and credited my account with £5 as a goodwill gesture. So first impressions were not great, but this helped.

I transferred a small amount from
my bank but the small print says this can take up to 24 hours to reflect in the Hyperjar account. Not ideal - I suppose the idea is to transfer whole budget on payday but I often need to transfer funds and spend straight away - not a problem with my current accounts which update within seconds, so this could be a potential sticking point for me.

I'm going to transfer a chunk on payday (maybe just groceries budget to begin with) and see how I get on with that.

I've decided to give up on trying to test this product. It has been problem after problem. My first card didn't arrive so we spent a week messaging and waiting to see if it turned up before a replacement was sent. This arrived, activated it ok and before I used it properly i thought I would test it with the £10 they loaded as I use Shell and Lidl frequently and they are both partners. I asked in Lidl, no-one knew anything about the scheme. So I decided to try it in Shell, moved it to the jar etc - it didn't work, and the staff again didn't know what hyperjar was. I contacted Hyperjar who explained I needed to use chip and pin first to get it accept contactless in future - great I thought, but no I've tried it again today and it still doesn't work.

In the meantime, I had to pay £2 for a letter with no postage which turned out to be the missing first card they sent. So I'm out of pocket and I am loathe to start transfering my own money into it and find I can't get it back when I need to. I'm pleased i got selected but I have absolutely no faith in the product so would like to withdraw from the test please.

I also gave up trying to test it. No wonder they haven't asked me for feedback!

I liked all the functionality, it certainly was helpful with managing my money. However, I currently bank with Nationwide because I know they manage my money ethically. I would want more info on how HyperJar invests my money before I would use it as my main banking tool.

Is there any indication of when feedback will be required for testers? I haven't heard anything yet, or at least I don't think I have!

BreastOfIntentions I had an email from Mumsnet asking me to complete an online survey and give my feedback on a private thread. I couldn't access the private thread so I gave my answers to the questions via an email.

Thanks @itis6oclocksomewhere! I've checked my emails but can't see anything. Will send a message to MN, although during the test period I kept getting emails to activate/use my card even though I was already doing so Confused

I don't know if this is of any help to you, but I got my email asking for feedback on the 9th of December. When it gets sorted hopefully you'll have better luck accessing the private feedback thread, I tried every device in the house and nothing worked!

I'm another one who gave up on this - I could never get the authorisation from the email to work, and despite multiple requests for help (I replied to every email reminding me to do it and promising help if I asked) never got any help as to how to fix it. Most frustrating.
