What did you use Deliveroo for – a date night or a family night?
Date night. Although, I am 32 weeks pregnant and we've been pretty busy recently, so tbh eating at the kitchen table instead of on our laps in front of the telly is about as grown up and romantic as it gets. After we'd made our main order, we still had a little left in the kitty so I ordered again on a second night and used up the credit towards that order.
-How easy was it to use Deliveroo?
Very easy. Pretty foolproof I would say.
-How would you rate the speed of the Deliveroo service?
Good. The first order was ordered for a specific time. I got a text to say it would be 5-10 minutes late and the order turned up 5 minutes after the original delivery time, as promised . The second time I ordered, the estimate was 65 minutes, but my food actually arrived within 30.
-Would you recommend Deliveroo to a friend?
Yes.
For our first order, we ordered from a great little curry place that we don't use often. We DH usually collect our order because a few of the usual places we like don't deliver and also DH prefers to get the collection discounts 🙄 The place we ordered from using Deliveroo is a pig to park near so we wouldn't usually use it.
Everything arrived well packed and hot, although we did pop the starters and mains in the oven as we usually do while we crack on with the poppadoms.
The delivery cyclist was friendly and polite and had no trouble finding us.
For the second order, I ordered pizza. I needed to order a side or a desert to make up the minimum order because it was just me eating. I noticed that the choice of starters was quite restricted - presumably because of issues with getting them to you in one piece. It was a shame, therefore, that my pudding (vanilla pannacotta with fruit stuff) didn't arrived in better shape. It was delivered in a very large box, with nothing to stop it collapsing, so it looked a right old mess by the time it arrived. Fortunately, it tasted good.
When my pizza arrived, it was pretty much stone cold. I stuck it in the oven to warm up and crisp up, but it wasn't quite the same. Given that it had arrived much more quickly than I was expecting, I was disappointed. In future I think I will stick to ordering things like curry that will withstand delivery and also being warmed up a bit on delivery.
Overall, I think it's good to have tested the service, provided you are a bit careful about what you order. Given that we usually benefit from collection discounts and also the delivery charge, it's definitely a more expensive way of ordering a takeaway. But with a new baby on the way and also the increased range of takeaways available to us via Deliveroo, I expect we will use the service again.
