Microsoft have asked us to find 10 Mumsnetters to test out Nokia Lumia 735, Xbox One Console with Kinect and a Linx tablet (total RRP ~£750).

Here’s what Microsoft’s marketing manager says, “As a marketing manager for Microsoft and mum of 2 boys, I know that things at home and at work can get pretty busy – especially this time of year with present buying, decorating the house, nativity play outfits, pantomimes……you know the rest :-). That is why we wanted to show you the collective power of some of these Microsoft products and how they can be used for the whole family. We would like to find families that can try out a Nokia Lumia phone, XBox One console and one of the new very affordable Linx tablets. All of these work together in a way that your family’s life can be fun and organised, productive and producing lots of laughs.”

This product test is open to UK Mumsnetters who have at least two children age between 5-15.

Testers will need to be available to attend an event in Victoria, London on Tuesday 16th December between 10-12:30 to learn how to get most out of all the products and how to use them together.

Testers will each receive:

  • Nokia Lumia 735
  • Xbox One Console with Kinect + 12 month Xbox Live subscription + Project Spark game
  • Linx tablet (7 will receive the 8" tablet and and 3 testers will receive the 10" tablet)

Testers will be required to add their feedback on the products on three separate feedback threads onsite. So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the products.

Thanks and good luck

Just because people haven't posted in the thread, doesn't necessarily mean they're ungrateful. Maybe they're checking they can manage to travel there first etc. Yes, it was a shame not to be picked, my kids would've loved it too, but I'm just pleased for those who did.

Just to say..... We are extremely grateful. The products arrived today and we got the Xbox set up and the first thing we did was not play a game, but skype with my dad (who lives abroad). The kids just spent an hour talking to him, playing their instruments to him etc. yes we do this from a computer normally, but this was a whole new experience. The kinect followed them round the room, zooming in and out as needed. He said he felt like he was actually in the room with us. That last hour has been more important thsn games, tablets etc. so thank you Microsoft and Mumsnet for making my dad's day!!!

Just wanted to say the box has JUST been delivered, and I only found out yesterday!!

So not ungrateful, just very shocked that we have been picked as a family to take part in this trial!!

Ds1 has been desperate for Xbox one and I was looking to change phone, so this has been a real treat.

One question, can I keep my number and use my SIM card in the phone?? I've had my number for years so would hate to loose it!!

Very very grateful SmileSmileSmile

I wondered about the SIM card thing too. They included one in the pack, but I think it's a PAYas you go thing. The originall signup said micro sim, but the phone actually takes a nano sim. So can we put our own nano sim in it? Or can we buy a contract sim to go in it? I'm assume they don't care so long as we use the phone?

What I really want to know from Microsoft is this.. Are there any accessible games?
In theory the Kinect should be easy for users to use, but so far the few games we have tried have been virtually impossible for users to use.
Could mumsnet/the testers find out more about this?

Will try re the games, at moment trying to get sim out of phone!!

My iPhone 6 uses a nano sim. My old 4s used a micro sim. I am not sure what the 5 uses as I never had one.

I had wanted to try hang on and give the Xbox on to ds1 for Christmas, as had no idea when things were going to arrive! But I spoke to Georgina today and she said they really wanted us to start using before then. Seems really ungrateful to complain!!

Word of warning - it took AGES to set up today! My eldest is a bit of a techy and did most of it, but it was a slooooooow process! So far we did the Skype session I mentioned already and the kids played a racing game. They loved it! I am not really a gamer so leaving it to them to test and feedback :). My eldest has set up the tablet and has fallen in love with it. The phone has not been tested yet as still trying to decide what to do about the SIM card. Might get dh to do it tomorrow.

I have my box, and have drooled but with work, school disco and band practice I've not been able to play yet. Planning to sort any sim problems and begin to set it all up tomorrow, in between band job and kids homework. All very exciting.

Another very excited and appreciative tester family here. It has been like Christmas morning today. Wish I had filmed my kids reactions when we opened the box. Together we spent some time setting it all up tonight and I am writing this on the tablet. DH is already really impressed by some of the Xbox functionality (changing channel without lifting a finger!)

I'm so pleased and thankful that we're being given this opportunity. Thank you MN and Microsoft.

I got an email saying we'd been picked, but haven't had anything delivered, hence lack of on thread thankyou's (bear in mind that chosen will have been in contact with MNHQ by email so will have said their thanks "in person"). I foolishly told the kids we'd got it, so hoping that they're not going to be disappointed.

Trying to set the phone up here. Sim was quite easily sorted by visiting the networks shop, but transferring all my contact info is a disaster so far :-( anyone else having teething problems?

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! I have name changed but I am a very long time established mumsnetter, from the beginning in fact!

It is taking us a while to set up as we have never had any games consoles of any sort, the older children who no longer live at home are green with envy, but are none the wiser in set up either.

Slowly slowly, I have got the phone sorted out, do I need to put credit on the (very kindly supplied) sim card to make it work, I have used the one out of my current phone to try it quickly.

As Windows is all completely new to me, I feel a bit like a dinosaur, but the screen on the Nokia Lumia is lovely and bright, very clear and good colour. The battery life does not seem that good, as I haven't really done anything and it has needed charging twice since Friday, perhaps something is running that I can't see?

The Linx10 tablet, is lovely, again, taking a while to get to grips with it, but as others say, it is an incredibly busy time of year and not a lot of spare time to actually sit and 'waste' an afternoon! Too many parties plays, relative visiting etc as we are away abroad as don as school breaks until the new year. Two of the devices will certainly be going with us!

Will feedback after the London seminar, I hope to learn a lot, and thank you again!

Hi everyone, just to clear up the questions about the sim cards. You will need a nano sim to insert into the phone but it doesn't matter whether this is your own sim card or the one provided in the package.

My Linx has frozen and I can't do anything with it! Any quick ideas how to restart it before I trawl through the Microsoft website please!

Just to say I am a tester too and not ungrateful in the slightest but again only collected on sat - sadly tablet had a fault and got replacement today - with 3 kids christmas assemblies/broken boiler and full time job haven't had the chance to set the xbox up yet. So excited after the demo today though, hope to have it running by the weekend.

Love the lumia phone though, love it more than my iPhone 5c - am very pleasantly surprised by this :D

A series I had just started watching on Amazon INstant Video disappeared when I was half way through watching - grrr! - so I hopped back onto Netflix and went through my list and settled on watching Educating Yorkshire! It's such a lovely documentary and mostly always makes me smile! It has reaffirmed my desire to become a teacher!
