Do you and your DCs love arts and crafts? Cadbury is on the hunt to find the country’s most artistic family.

This thread is for all of those who want to enter the competition. It is also for the 50 Mumsnetters who received a box of Cadbury Dairy Milk Egg ‘n’ Spoon along with two How to Guides on what to do with your leftover box.

Here’s what Cadbury Dairy Milk have to say, “We’re really looking forward to hearing about the fun Mumsnetters had making their Egg ‘N’ Spoon box creations and, of course, seeing the pictures! We really hope that getting creative with your DCs will bring out those spontaneous moments of joy.”

Non-testers: Cadbury Dairy Milk Egg ‘N’ Spoon are launching a Mumsnet wide competition to find the UK’s most artsy family. To enter the competition you need to upload a picture onto this thread of your own Egg ‘N’ Spoon box creations. To get you started Cadbury have provided two how-to guides on how to make musical instruments from the left over box, which you can follow and add your own personal touches to.

Here is our hot air balloon with spoon people as passengers. 3 year old DD enjoyed making it until she realised her balloon was to be used. She soon got over that though and has enjoyed playing with it since although the people have not survived.

The eggs went down really well with the 4 children, I was very jealous that I couldn't have one! Because I am currently laid up with a very painful bout of sciatica the box art fell to the supervision of my very non arty elder daughter. With 4 children and one box the arguments ran on and on but eventually they managed to create the 'shaker' instrument thing from the instructions (sorry, I am a bit doped up and can't remember the proper name and am too immobile to go downstairs and check it, but wanted to get this done). All in all they had lots of fun and it kept them busy for several hours so thanks to Cadbury's.

We made a basket. The drum would have been fun to make, but it needed two packs of eggs. We'd didn't follow the instructions as DD had other ideas on how the basket would look, but we did a variation. Wrapped foil around they'd handle and added stickers.


We made an owl out of a pine cone and cotton wool and googly eyes. He has had lots of fun in his basket and sailing in his boat.

We also made a boat out the lid of the box, adding a sail and the spoons become oars. We also made a little seat out of the closing part of the box and some of the outer wrapper. It looks really good.

This is my DD's purple, chocolate egg laying pig. I have to say, a pig that lays these eggs - now that would be an amazing pig.

My daughter really enjoyed making the Easter basket. She used the instructions but added some pom pom chicks and some streamers for their nest. She also added some beautiful colourful flowers. She enjoyed making the basket and enjoyed the chocolate egg too. Thanks for sending us the eggs. :)

We bought a scrumptious cadbury egg and spoon today from the shop- My Dd was very happy and become all the more creative and created a pretty Easter box from the left over box

Gorgeous choccy eggs, really yummy. My kids and I really enjoyed them. My son then made a terrific castle out of the box, can't seem to upload picture though.

Q1. What did you make with the how-to guides?

We got the drum and the egg basket how to guides. I thought they were really well written and easy to follow with the pictures. The end results looked great on paper. I could easily give them to an older child and let them follow them. I showed my sister who is a primary school teacher and she thought they were really good.

I did decide to make my own thing after seeing the guides as I thought we could make a dragon. However, when I saw on Mumsnet the Mexican Bean Shaker I knew that it would be perfect for my 18 month old toddler and a lot more fun than a dragon.

Q2. Did you add any of your own personal touches? If so, what were they?

We were only given one box of the eggs and as the bean shaker required two boxes I decided to adapt it by doing a double rattle instead. I've attached two photos as the first one shows "stage 1". I used the lid of the box for the handle and the egg bases as the bits for the rattle. We loosely followed the How To Guide.

I'd not done papier mache for years and was surprised how strong the resulting rattle was. My 18 month old helped which is why it looks a bit misshapen and lumpy. When it was dry we painted it together. I painted the handle red and had a grand idea of painting the rest yellow and letting her put coloured dots on it but she was more interested in just smearing paint everywhere. It might not be the nicest looking instrument but it was a lot of fun to make!

Q3. Which musical instrument did you prefer?

The Mexican Bean Shaker is the one that I think would appeal to my toddler most. She loves anything that rattles.

Q4. What else, if anything, did you make with your Egg 'N' Spoon box?

The whole box was used in making our rattle!

Oh my goodness these eggs were delicious. Far nicer than I expected! They are a bit on the expensive side for a general treat (which is why I didn't buy a second box to make the bean shaker with properly) but we will definitely be getting some to put aside for Easter weekend. My DH isn't a big chocolate eater but even he really liked it.

Thank you for allowing us to take part. We had a lot of fun with this one (and made a lot of mess, before it was dry my toddler decided to bang the rattle against the wall, lots of splotchy paint everywhere!).

Here is the dragon we made over half term. We had an amazing time making him and may have gotten a tad carried away
He is made from papermache and egg cartons (I knew we would finally find a use for all the packing material from Christmas)
The inspiration came from DS2 who saw the inside of the egg and spoon carton as teeth.
He sat out on the table in various stages of completion (the dragon, not ds2) over half term, everyone who came over had a hand in creating him, and covering the house in sequins and glitter

We got the larry the lamb and the Mexican bean shaker guides. My daughter loves lambs so there was no chance of making the bean shaker. I was really impressed by the how to guides which were very well written/explained. The lamb making kept my daughter happily occupied until my son decided he didn't like the ears and wanted to make the bean shaker whereupon he demolished the lamb whilst I was cooking dinner. There were a lot of tears and hence no photos now. I have given the guides to my sister in law so hopefully her children will make something more harmoniously.
I have to say the chocolate was absolutely delicious. The children loved them as did I so they will be getting some from the Easter bunny!

My 3yo DS1 is currently going through a rocket phase. So we tried to turn the egg box into a rocket. However, it ended up looking more like a moon landing pod - hence the stairs up to the doorway. It was going to be red like Wallace & Gromit's rocket but then he decided pink was his favourite colour.

Mini egg moon rocks were my addition. I do love Easter chocolate. There was a Saturn creme egg as well but I couldn't get it to come out very well in the photo!

Non-tester who is also non-crafty. We didn't quite 'nail it' but we had fun making spring flowers.

We had the choice of the drum or an Easter basket. My three year old instantly chose the basket. He was really excited by it. We basically followed the instructions for the basket, but used lots of glitter in addition! Doesn't really show up on the photo though. Instead of using paper for the eggs, we used real eggs. We used the old egg blowing technique first, which my ds thought was great, and then I let him loose with the paint!

We had great fun making it, and it's currently in his bedroom. His first comment when we'd finished was that he wanted to take it to bed!

Thanks for letting us take part. We loved the chocolate, and my son was very excited by the spoon to eat it with. We'll probably have to buy some more nearer Easter.

Oh, and I absolutely love the dragon made by a previous poster!

I bought this product from the Co-op when it was £2 for a box; though the chocolate is yummy at normal price I think it's a tad too pricey.

We made a simple boat with the lid, used the spoons as oars and some of my son's toys as the crew. We added some glittery bits to the front and sides - but the vivid purple colour didn't need covering up!

The chocolate went down very well, but DS is doing junk modelling at school at the moment and the box went in for that, he was completely set against making anything at home!
