I visited the Charter in Aylesbury last Saturday with my partner, daughter ages 10 and baby boy aged 7 months. We arrived about 2.45 and we didn't have to wait long to be given a table in a not well lit area of the pub. I spotted a handful of tables free in nice room, where big windows let the sunlight come through. I asked to sit there instead and was happy to hear that there was no problem at all.
The staff member made sure that we were confortably seated, handed the menus and advised us that another member of staff called Kelly would be dealing with our orders. She came a few minutes after and took our orders. The drinks came first. My daughter's choice was the wrong dring but she didn't mind.
I thought that the starters and main meals took a while to arrrive, but that's maybe because we were feeling hungry. I ordered garlic bread and a vegetarian lasagna, my partner ordered breaded mushrooms and chicken curry and my daughter asked for garlic bread and vegetarian sausages with garlic bread and chips. All the food that was served was correc, except that my daughter was served baked beans instead of chips. We alerted the member of staff who apologized and quickly brought a portion of chips.
The quality and taste of food was very nice. Throughout our meal, the member of staff came to see us and asked if everything was up to our preferences. We liked the personalized customer service.
We also ordered some desserts, which came fairly quickly and were tasty.
The premisses were very clean, tidy and attractive.
All staff that we have interacteded with were very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a very positive experience with the Charter and a very nice family meal. Thank you MumsNet for selecting us!
My daughter loved the pub and the food and asked to come back again. We will probably come back as we enjoyed it.
The ambience of the restaurant was nice and chilled, with country music being played in the background. I liked the restaurant's decoration and all customers seemed to be happy.
The highlight of the visit was how the friendly staff made us feel welcome and were prepared to attend to our wishes with a genuine smile.

Thank you MumsNet for selecting us to review this restaurant!

We visited the Bowling Green in Clacton-on-Sea on Sunday 13 October.

It was myself, my husband and my 4 year old son.

My son had garlic bread, penne pasta and ice cream. The kids food was great and was good value. I ordered the sticky chicken goujons, followed by the Sirloin steak. The chicken was ok and the steak was good, cooked the way I requested it. My husband had the buffalo wings and the mixed grill. The buffalo wings arrived without the blue cheese dip but the waitress was very quick to get this once we'd pointed it out. The mixed grill was fine (aside from the tinned mushrooms) and pretty good value. For the food plus two soft drinks and two large coffees the bill was £52.85.

Upon arrival we were greeted in a welcoming manner and shown straight to our table, given it was quiet early for lunch it was pretty busy. It was a very relaxed atmosphere with people in general enjoying their food.

The staff were very friendly and attentive.

My son had a great time and put his hand up when he had finished eating, as he has been taught to do at school. No colouring pack was provided but it did say to request one on the menu (we didn't as I always take lots to keep him entertained).

We would definitely visit again.

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited the Plymouth restaurant on Thursday and booked our table for 5
pm. When I booked the table, the person wasn’t aware of the voucher, so we
were a little worried before we went but when I mentioned it to the waitress
at the restaurant she enquired with the manager about it.
Staff were very friendly and relaxed. When we first walked into the
restaurant a member of staff greeted us and said hello while walking past.
We were seated quickly and asked how many highchairs we would like. The
staff member moved the chair to fit the highchair in, which hasn’t happened
in my previous experience (at a comparative alternative in Plymouth).
Within minutes our friendly waitress had bought DD crayons and an activity
pack. She also bought her some paper when she realised that the activity
pack was a little old to hold DDs attention long enough.

There is plenty of car parking and although you have to pay £5, this is
taken off the bill.

~ Who were you with?
I visited with DH, and my two DC. DD is 27 months and DS is three months.

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
We ordered Calamari, Chicken Goujons and garlic bread for starters. I
really liked the fact that children could have veg sticks for a starter and
the selection on the main menu was broad. The calamari portion was
generous, and the chicken goujons were both hot a juicy (although DH felt
there could have been more 'garnish').
For mains we had a mixed grill, double burger and DD had grilled chicken,
chips and coleslaw. The mixed grill was nicely presented, and I liked the
fact the peppercorn sauce was served separately. The fried egg was also
nice a runny and the steak cooked nicely!
DH enjoyed his double burger and said it was "good and meaty", although he
would have liked a few more chips and bacon with the burger.

DD had hers served on a hot plate so the waitress asked if we would like a
cold plate which was really helpful. She also bought out child sized
cutlery which was great. DD enjoyed her chips but I don’t think she was
keen that the chicken was grilled. The menu selection for kids is great
and perfect that there is a good selection of sides as opposed to chips and
beans or peas.
For pudding we had a banana waffle and DD had a strawberry sundae. The
waffle had a generous portion of banana and sauce. The kids menu could have
done with a little more fruit, although I did see they had fruit skewers
which came with chocolate sauce (DD is intolerant to chocolate). However,
they would have probably substituted the chocolate sauce if I had asked
them. DD's sundae had a good portion of fruit and ice cream.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
All of the staff were really friendly and cheerful/ happy. The service was
really quick throughout for us, and others around us. There is also plenty
of space around the table so I was able to put DS on a chair in his car
seat. The restaurant was also clean and odour free. The toilets were clean
and the disabled toilet had a baby change facility which is nice as
sometimes places only have the units in the ladies toilets.
The waitress was fantastic with our DD, and engaged with her, as well as us.
She also accommodated DD's needs adequately (extra paper, finding a cooler
plate for her dinner, providing toddler cutlery, pointing out the 3D poster
and holding it up for her to see).

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Very knowledgeable - the waitress warned DH the sauce he chose with the
starter was a little spicy.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
DD really enjoyed herself and liked the fact she had ice cream! The stickers
and 3d glasses were also a hit.

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
We had an enjoyable meal, and it was nice not to have to cook and worry
about dinner. It was also nice to see DD eat so much as she can be quite
fussy. Overall our visit was about 1 1/2 hours and DD sat for most of that
which felt very stress free for a change - thanks to the extra paper
provided at the start and the stickers in the activity pack.

Rosvita · 17/10/2013 23:12

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
Visited this evening (thurs), Lynton Court in Bournemouth

~ Who were you with?
Family of four-myself, husband, son (5) and daughter (2)

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
I had Liver pate starter and cheeseburger with chips for main
Husband had nachos to start and half chicken and chips for main
Kids ordered from kids menu - son had sauages, chips and tortilla chips,
daughter had penne pasta, chips and tortilla chips, both had the sweetie sundaes for pudding.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
On arrival we weren't too sure whether to go to the bar to be seated or the computer point in the restaurant itself (I felt it perhaps could havebeen clearer). Background music made for a relaxed atmosphere, and was not at all intrusive. We liked the restaurant layout-it did not feel like you were too close to other diners (always good with young children with you).

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
The staff were all friendly and helpful and our server was able to advise on the menus and knew exactly the pudding I was after for the kids (a friend had recommended it) despite me not remembering the name of it. Manager lovely and seemed really genuine and passionate about the place-had a good chat with her about the menus, and how we felt some local family restaurants seem to have gone downhill so how refreshing it was to come to somewhere that provides nice food at a good price and welcomes families (there were not many with young children in tonight but then it is mid-week).

~ What did your children think of the visit?
They enjoyed it and ate most of their food - the activity packs with 3D glasses, stickers and crayons, and the 'make your own' sundaes were their favourite part of the visit. My daughter also liked the blue light on the hand-drier in the toilet!! Agree with pp that the kids menu layout was excellent-making it easy for littler ones to see what they wanted to have, and the pictures aided my son who is an early reader to decipher what the words underneath said. Good mix of healthy/not so healthy options.

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
The bargainous kids puddings for 99p.

Any other comments?
Our meal came in at a total of under £50 (inclusive of drinks, including some alcoholic beverages), which we thought was great value for money.
We will definitely return on a Sunday to try out their Roast Dinners (preferably after 2pm as mums eat for free!), lots of good deals on.

I took my three children and grandma and grandad to the Hunsworth Restaurant on Wednesday 16 October at 17.00. I booked the restaurant easily and arrived to an empty pub. Gemma, the waitress was lovely and cared for us from the moment we arrived until we left. We we seated on a huge secluded table which seated 8 so lots of room.

We choose the big sharing platter to start with and all dug in. It had garlic bread, calamari, breaded mushrooms, onion rings and nachos and there was plenty for 6 of us. For mains my two youngest daughters had the kids meal of chicken, chips, corn on the cob and fish fingers, chips and beans. The girls were really impressed as they received 3D glasses, a worksheet with stickers and a placemat to colour in. They insisted on bringing them home and worked busily on them during our stay in the restaurant. Their portions were more adult than child size and my 5 year old managed to eat it all (3 fish fingers). My eldest daughter and grandma opted for the Chinese buffet which my daughter made 3 visits to and enjoyed the food. Grandma felt she had made the wrong choice as some of the dishes were not to her liking but she usually chooses the 'wrong food' in restaurants in general. Grandad had the beer battered haddock and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. The portion was very large and it tasted very nice. I opted for the mushroom Risotto and the portion was just the right size with a sprinkling of rocket and some parmesan shavings.

At 17.00 the restaurant was very quiet but by 17.30 it had stated to fill up and when we left at 19.00 most of the tables were taken and there were quite a few people just in the bar area. The restaurant is set out beautifully as you feel you have your own space and the waitress service is great as Gemma continued to bring us drinks and asked how our meal was regularly. She hit it off with my 5 year old!

Gemma should be congratulated for her wonderful manner as a waitress. She is a credit to this restaurant. As I said earlier she really looked after our group and nothing was too much trouble for her. Even though she was busy looking after other customers she still gave us the same attention we had received at the start of our meal. When grandma asked if the 'fish' on the menu was haddock Gemma knew instantly that it wasn't, only the Beer Battered Haddock was 'haddock'.

The desserts on the kids menu were the right size for an adult. Two of my daughters chose Rocky Road Sundae and Mini Chocolate Challenge. The eldest daughter went for the full-size Rocky Road Sundae which was huge and contained everything needed and more! Grandma opted for the Chocolate Brownie which came with a dollop of icecream and was delicious!

My 3 daughters definately want to dine at the restaurant again and I don't blame them. I have never seen such a wide ranging kids menu and at such a great price. They insited I signed up for the Table Table Club so I will receive lots of special offers.

The highlight of the visit has to be Gemma. We visit a lot of restaurants as a family and it is not often that we receive such great and wonderful service from a waitress. She received a generous tip for her efforts. We will all remember her. The food was great for the money and we will definately be back with dad in tow!

Many thanks for allowing us the opportunity to take part we really enjoyed ourselves!

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
Today, at lunchtime. The Hunsworth in Cleckheaton (Bradford South).

~ Who were you with?
My DH, DD (3 YO) and my DParents.

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
As it was a lunchtime meal, we elected to skip the starters and go straight for mains and then puddings.

We had a wide variety of dishes, I'm not a big meat eater and was pleased to see several options for vegetarian dishes. I went for Macaroni cheese, my DH had chicken and ribs while my parents had lamb and salmon respectively. DD had sausages, peas and garlic bread from the child menu.

Special mention for the child menu, we loved the fact that each dish had a corresponding picture so DD, who can't read yet, could easily see the options and point to what she wanted! Would have been nice to have the same for her desserts.

For desserts, my Mum and I had sundaes, DD loved the chocolate challenge (and stole extra marshmallows from my sundae) while my Dad had the Oreo tart and DH had the bread and butter putting. We also had some Costa coffees.

All the food was very nice and the portion sizes were sensible. Although I think DH was underwhelmed by the bread and butter pudding and was enviously eyeing up the sundaes! Food was served nice and hot on warmed but not burning plates.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
The ambience was very nice. Some quiet background music that was present but not distracting. It wasn't particularly busy when we were there, there were plenty of staff who didn't seem too rushed. Food was all brought out together so no-one was left hungrily watching everyone else eat.

The restaurant seemed in good repair, no noticeable damage such as fraying seats or chipped corners. We particularly liked where we were seated, which we noted would be excellent if anyone with limited mobility was visiting as there was plenty of space to maneuver and get a wheelchair, if needed, right up to the table.

The toilets, however, were not quite so great. The ladies needed a bit of tidying and they weren't very child friendly. DD couldn't reach either the sinks or the hand dryer without help. The hand dryer was particularly ineffective.

There is baby change, but it's in the disabled toilet which needs a radar key. Presumably there's one available behind the bar if needed, but that's still a bit awkward. Meant I couldn't check it out.

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We had no problems booking, they knew about the voucher without any querying. We were greeted promptly and taken to our table quickly when we arrived.

We don't have any allergies so didn't have any particularly difficult questions for the staff, but were reassured by the information on the menu that such information was available if needed. My DH also particularly liked that there was an explanation on the back of the menu about how tips would be given to the serving staff depending on whether they were left in cash or added to the bill.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
DD loved the pack she was given with some activity sheets, crayons, 3D glasses (to use with images on the sheet) and some stickers. She was a bit young to really get the concept of 3D, but she liked using the glasses to make everything a different colour. She loved the stickers.

The food seemed to go down well, she particularly loved having her own little pot of ketchup and, with the dessert, chocolate sauce so that she could dip her food.

A smaller set of cutlery might have been good, but she managed ok with adult sized.

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
The relaxed but efficient atmosphere. We weren't left waiting long at any point and it was an enjoyable time spent together as a family.

Spirael · 19/10/2013 15:52

Oh, two other things we noted...

There is no calorie information available on the menu. It might have been available if we'd asked for it, but my DM would have preferred it to be easily visible.

We also noted there were no 'savoury' desserts available, such as fruit or a cheese board. Would have been nice to see something for either diabetics or those who just don't want or like too much sweet food.

Tillyamy · 19/10/2013 17:21

When did you visit, ho were you with and which restaurant did you visit?

I visited Mill Lodge in Lincoln at 12.30 today with my husband, DS1 aged 3 and DS2 aged 1

What did you and your group choose from the menu?

I had the Lamb shank, a lager shandy and a bramley apple crumble with custard. My husband had a full rack of ribs and chicken, 2 pints of Guinness, a pint of hobgoblin (he was hungover) a rocky road sundae and we had the extra feast (onion rings, breaded mushrooms and garlic bread) to share. DS1 had pop in chicken, peas and chips and DS2 had tomato penne pasta, peas and baked beans. The children both had fruit and chocolate fondue for pudding which was a very generous portion of strawberries, chopped banana and orange with a pot of chocolate fudge sauce. The food was lovely - not a la carte but much better than i was expecting! Portions were about right too although I don't think I could ever eat 3 courses there. The children seemed to enjoy their food too which is always a bonus!

How was the general ambiance of the restaurant?

The restaurant was quite quiet when we arrived but we were welcomed quickly by Alan who was very friendly and chatty. He introduced us to our waiter, Geoff who was also very friendly and chatty. Whilst they knew we were reviewing for mumsnet, it didn't seem forced or overbearing. We stayed for nearly 2 hours and the restaurant was much busier when we left but we never felt rushed at any point. there was some music playing in the background which wasn't overbearing and the restaurant was clean and hospitable.

How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?

Alan recommended a few dishes to us and Geoff also discussed desserts. Both seemed to know what they were talking about. The hobgoblin ran out after my husbands 1st pint and we were told there was a 1 hour wait until they could "clean the pipes" and change the barrel. maybe it would be good to have someone who could do that working on every shift - we got the impression that the "barrel" person just hadn't arrived yet!

We also asked Alan about where we could go afterwards with our sons as we weren't local to the area and he gave some excellent recommendations, places he takes his 18 month old son. Although we didn't get to go to any as both boys fell asleep as soon as we got in the car!

What did your children think of the visit?

They really enjoyed it - the food was nice and Alan and Geoff both engaged with them in a pleasant manner. The pack of crayons, activity set and stickers were also a pleasant surprise and kept them both entertained. The only thing i would say is it would be nice if they used some of the outside area for a little playground if they are aiming for the young family market.

What was the highlight of the visit?
The food was great and so was the service. I'd definitely visit again and recommend to friends.
Well done Table Table and thanks to mumsnet for my vouchers Smile

Scarletpink · 19/10/2013 17:34

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited on thursday 10th (sorry, have had a busy week!!) - and went to the Charter in Aylesbury

~ Who were you with?
Husband, plus DS 12 and DD9

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
My husband and I both had breaded mushrooms (different dips though!), DS is at the age of wanting adult menu, but can't always finish it, but had the nachos for 1 and DD had the garlic bread from the kids menu

For mains I had steak with pepper sauce, plus mash as I didnt want chips. H had the ribs and chicken dish, which was recommended by our waiter Josh, DS had gammon and was very pleased to be allowed to have an egg and pineapple rather than one of the other and DD had chicken pops (I think that was what it was called), chips and baked beans - when eating out I tend to let her have what she likes!!!

Only DD could manage pudding - she had the mini chocolate challenge.

Drinks were ordered as soon as we were seated - we all had the refillable option (lemonade and diet pepsi in our case). Again, we wouldn't normally allow the kids fizzy, but when eating out as its for a treat, they are allowed! The refillable does make for a good deal, as I do find drinks bump a bill up, especially as DD tends to have finished hers before we even start eating.

I chose the mushrooms as a bit of a retro thing - they've been on menus for years! I found them a bit tasteless to be honest, the mushroom was way too hot, yet the outside cooled quickly. The mushroom was watery and a bit slimy. Overall they were a bit greasy for my liking, but the dips were nice. DS liked his nachos - a huge portion for one as a starter.

My steak was cooked exactly as I had requested - medium - and there was no issue at all me requesting mash (I knew it was elsewhere on the menu anyway) rather than chips. The pepper sauce was nice, but could have done with a bit more of it - at an extra £1.79 if I had been paying, it was not good value.

H enjoyed the ribs, I tried some and they were really nice. The chicken goujons that came with it cheapened the dish a bit really, but he said they were ok.

DS ate all his gammon, and really enjoyed it, as did DD with her kids meal.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
We arrived at 6pm, and were given a really nice table in a little alcove on our own - we could have eaten amongst other people in the various rooms this place has - I like the fact its all sub divided into areas which makes it feel a bit less faceless. They obviously had a heating problem -the ceiling heaters had their covers off and wires hanging down. The weather had turned this week, and the restaurant was slightly cold.

It got busier as we went through the evening, and there were a lot of people chasing their meals. It appeared understaffed, the staff were rushing around a lot although still were polite and attentive. Although it did take us about 10 minutes to attract attention to pay our bill - then we had a 15 minute wait whilst they were trying to find the vouchers, even though they knew when we arrived we were part of the survey.

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Josh was great, very happy to interchange dishes on the menu (my mash) and made a recommendation on dishes too. Whilst there were only four of us, he knew whose meals were whose when delivering them to the table.

I'm only 42, but I am not keen on constantly being called 'guys' by the staff. I don't expect Madam at all (!!) but guys is a bit informal and familiar for my liking. I heard it amongst all the staff, so it must be normal training for them. Not sure what the older generation may think of this! Even DS commented on it on our way home.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
Both enjoyed it and ate everything. When eating out priority for us is that we eat where the kids will eat well (although luckily they are not fussy eaters) and therefore we feel we are getting good value. They are both old enough now not to need entertaining by kids packs, and it is nice to have the time to sit as a family and be able to eat and chat - at home that is often difficult as we both work full time and often long hours.

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
To be honest I am not sure there was one. It was ok value (not withstanding the vouchers), but arguably the food quality and method of prep is aimed at mass covers and of course not freshly cooked to order. But it is what it is, and I can see that there is a market for this type of operation. The people there that evening ranged from couples to families, to groups of women out together, so a real mix.

~ Other comments
This would not be our normal choice of eating out, and to be honest, I think we will stick with our usual Pizza Express / Prezzo choice, which the kids always enjoy. The number of deals and offers is quite confusing, and the menu is vast. Arguably this means choice, but to me it means mass catering and ping and ding / deep fryer!!! However, I can see that it is a good family option, and perhaps if the DCs were younger we would go again.

I suspect this particular site has suffered in the past few weeks, as a brand new Harvester has opened less than 5 mins walk away, and has been full to bursting everytime I have been past. Harvester has the advantage of the salad bar, plus I like the fact there is calorific info on the menu. And we had a good meal there recently for only £45 for the four of us (our bill at the Charter would have been £63), so better value too.

Table Table is from the same stable as Beefeater and Brewers Fayre (owned by Whitbread), and I would say this option probably sits in the middle of those two. With pub restaurants being prevalent now in the market place (with the likes of Hungry Horse, Flaming Grill, Toby and Harvester all developing fast) - I hope TT listen to the wisdom of MNers through this feedback, as overall there is a definite market for what they do.

Thanks Mumsnet for choosing us :)

Hi, we visited Mill Lodge, Lincoln yesterday afternoon, having booked the day before. Went with hubby and DS (8). The pub ambience was lovely, with a choice of booths or tables. We had been pre-allocated a nice roomy table with a garden view.
We were served by a very friendly guy called Jeff and the Manager, Alan, personally came over to chat to us and make us feel comfortable and at home. The menu was fully explained to us, along with all the special deals you can go for and they told us that there was full availability for all menu choices. We were also advised about a reward card that you can earn points for visits on and also other offers currently available.
DS was very impressed with the 3D glasses and with the drinks choices (he personally sampled the Babychino, a banana milkshake and a Fruitshoot MY 5!)
The menu choices were really hearty and warming - ideal Autumn fayre. We both went for lamb shank (delicious - melted off the bone) and DS decided on a cheeseburger from the adult menu. Our food was unbelievably tasty and marvellous quality. Had DS wanted a lighter bite, the children's menu was not bad value,at £4.99, but the fantastic value were the children's menu puddings at just 99p each! DS had the rocky road sundae and proclaimed it "yummy"! Hubby had sticky toffee pudding and vanilla pod ice cream and I had a strawberry sundae. Really tasty!
The restaurant and loo's were particularly clean and hygienic and we felt that it would have been a good choice to return to.
We had just £8.50 plus tip to pay on top if the £50 voucher and we came away feeling so full up and satisfied! It was a most enjoyable experience and we were made to feel very special.
Thank you Mumsnet for selecting us and thanks to Alan and Jeff at Mill Lodge for giving us a fun and delicious dining experience.

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited the Mill Lodge at Lincoln for lunch on Sunday 20 October.

~ Who were you with?
There were four diners in our party - myself, DP, DD (8) and DS (2)

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
For starters we had the sharing platter and the DC's had the veg sticks. For our mains the DC's had spaghetti and pizza from the children's menu which I liked as it had the pictures of the meals, so meant that the toddler was clear about what he wanted (even if he changed his mind after we ordered!) DP had the sirloin steak (which was cooked to his medium liking) and I had the cod burger which was quite tasty. For dessert DD had the fruit and chocolate fondue and we got the trio of sharing desserts, which I did eat most of Halloween Blush but DS was keen on the Belgian waffle.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
I liked it - I can't recall music playing but that was good as we were there as a family and to chat to each other. There was a number of families in for their Sunday lunch. It felt family-friendly and that we weren't being judged for having a toddler

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Michael who served us was great and did know his products. He was very friendly and patient when we changed our order at the last minute (toddler!) We were offered a high chair which DS declined - he then went on to decline all chairs but the staff seemed used to dealing with stroppy 2 y.o.'s and took it in their stride. We were told about various offers that were available including Sunday lunch.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
DD loved the activity sheet that we were given and it did keep her occupied for most of the meal. She enjoyed her pudding too! DS ate the majority of his meal, which for the fussy beggar he is, was a minor miracle.

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
The service was really good and I enjoyed that the staff took the time to talk to the customers. We enjoyed that we weren't rushed through our meal and as I said before it did have a family feel to the place.

Any other comments?
Thank you for choosing us - we had a lovely meal and a great afternoon pottering round Lincoln afterwards.

When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We went to Cheadle Royal on Sunday 13th October. It was a late Sunday lunch for us, and we were hungry. DS2 had been playing rugby so needed meat, and lots of it!
~ Who were you with?
All of us went, 2 adults and 4 children (6 - 11 yo)
~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
I had the mixed grill (or Farm on a Plate as we dubbed it) DH had gammon and eggs, DS1 had spag bol (which they made a large), DS2 had a burger from the standard menu. The DDs ate from the children's menu - fish fingers, chips and beans for DD2, and DD1 had meatballs and pasta.
We had pudding - I had apple and caramel pie, DDs had the chocolatey one with marshmallows etc, DS had chocolate cake.
~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
It was comfortable, non-intrusive. Plenty of space.
~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Dan served us, and was very good. Made a lot of effort, was friendly and knowledgeable.
~ What did your children think of the visit? They really enjoyed it. The activity packs suited the age range, and they enjoyed doing them. The really liked the food, there was a really good choice for the children.
~ What was the highlight of the visit?
The service was excellent. I would definitely go again. Taking the 6 of us out gets really expensive so we often go for cheap pub grub. We have been going to our local Hungry Horse chain, which is not only cheap but vile. I now have a TT reward card and will be using it. Very impressed with the children's menu.

It is what it is, we knew what to expect before we got there. The service was better than I expected, it was clean, the food was good (much better than I expected - the steak was lovely, my chicken moist, onion rings crispy and tasty) and plenty of it.

When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited Lockyers Quay in Plymouth yesterday for Sunday Lunch.

Who were you with?
With my husband and 2 kids.

What did you and your group choose from the menu?
The kids both had a main course and pudding for £3.99. One of them chose tomato penne with two sides - garlic bread and skinny cut chips and the other one had fishfingers with two sides - corn on the cob and skinny cut chips. They both had the sweetie sundae for pudding and especially liked the popping candy.
My husband and I both had a burger which came with chips but no veg or salad. I had a banana split sundae and my husband had a sticky toffee pudding and custard. He also had a breaded mushroom starter. The girls both had bottomless lemonade to drink although to be honest, one was more than enough and they didn't finish them. It was a cold and wet day and so my husband and I both had a large cappucino - fab that it was Costa!

How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
Very nice. Nice relaxed atmosphere. If we had one criticism it was that we were placed out in the conservatory on our own - it soon filled up but it was a bit cold to start with.

How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Very. They seemed to know all they need to know, and were very good at what they do. All of the staff were lovely.

What did your children think of the visit?
Loved it. They said the food was their favourite bit which is always a bonus! They also loved the colouring pack that came with 3D glasses and lots to do.

What was the highlight of the visit?
Well - part of the fun of it had to be that we weren't paying as we had received a voucher from Mumsnet to go out and eat in return for writing this review!

Other than that - it was a vey nice way to spend a wet and rainy Sunday lunch - the atmosphere was nice, the food was good and plentiful, the staff were friendly and chatty, the restaurant was clean and nicely lit.

Any other comments?
We will certainly go again, and probably wouldn't have tried it if it wasn't for this offer as we don't tend to go out for meals that often and there are so many places to choose from.

Thank you to mumsnet and TableTable for giving us this opportunity.

I went with my husband, mum and seven month old daughter to the Bowling Green near Clacton on Sea on Tuesday 15th October at 4.30pm. Like other reviewers I repeatedly couldn’t get a reply on the phone so as we were passing on the drive to Clacton I popped in and made the reservation for later in the day. A staff member came over to the ‘please wait here’ area very quickly but wasn’t sure about the voucher that had been put aside so called over the shift manager who was very knowledgeable and booked the table and highchair. I think if we had picked a busier time to eat I would have needed to book by phone, not just taken the chance.

There was loads of free parking and it was really easy to find. On arrival I used the baby changing which was easily accessible in the disabled toilets and very clean with a nappy bin. It’s worth noting that the very powerful hand drier was next to the changing station so every time I moved I set it off. My baby has got used to them now but a few months ago the loud noise would have really upset her! As usual nowhere to hang the changing bag off the floor but I haven’t found this anywhere so far, a hanging hook near would be great though. The ladies toilets were also very clean and fresh smelling. Overall the restaurant was clean and uncluttered with a handful of separate dining areas with a nice modern country interior. I have been to a couple of other TableTable restaurants and it seemed to be the same décor; log walls, wicker lamps, nice autumnal coloured upholstery and carpets.

We were seated very quickly in a lovely area with lots of windows overlooking the gardens, so much nicer than looking at the car park. There were other diners but everyone was sat apart from each other so had privacy. There is also plenty of space to take in a pram. Our friendly server introduced himself and took our drinks orders and gave us just the right amount of time before taking our food orders. While we were waiting for the food another server gave us a childrens activity pack for the baby to look at. These are great with crayons, stickers and 3D glasses. A bit wasted on her but she enjoyed looking at the pictures and chewing the glasses. We kept the crayons for when she’s bigger and we’re out and about.

The food came quickly and all the dishes were hot. Staff were on hand throughout if you needed them. We all enjoyed our food, we had beef lasagne, steak and ale pie and 8oz rump steak (which was cooked medium rare as requested) with a pepper sauce; all with plenty of chips! My daughter had the meal deal of macaroni cheese, peas and baked beans and polishing off the lot. For pudding we had banana waffle, caramel apple crumble pie and a Costa cappuccino. Again these were all great. I think it was all reasonably priced, the lasagne and crumble were cheaper and the child meal was free due to the time of day we ate which was a nice bonus. The Pepsi was bottomless too if that’s your cup of tea.

We were also told about the ‘Tasty Rewards’ card which I signed up to. We eat at the Forest Park TableTable in Leicester when taking an elderly relative out from his care home (again the staff are superb in meeting his special requirements) so this will be useful to us. You get regular offers and a free birthday main course.

We will definitely be visiting our local TableTable in Colchester as it suits our current needs very well. While we have a young baby we just want to drive in and eat hot tasty food relatively quickly in a place that is friendly and clean. Just answer the phone so we can book!

NatalieNatalie · 21/10/2013 20:46

When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited the Table Table at Lynton Court on Thursday 17th October (my birthday, yay!). I made our reservation by telephone which proved a little tricky. Initially, our call was answered by the Premier Inn hotel next door, however, the staff member's accent was very strong (not English) and difficult to understand. We were transferred to the restaurant, where another staff member took our details. The telephone line had a buzz making it difficult to hear, so I called back since I was keen to ensure our voucher had been received. (Note: the TT manager did inform that provisions were being made for the restaurant to have it's own telephone line installed). Great news!

On arrival, we were pleased to see parking was very convenient and plentiful.

Who were you with?
Hubby, son (6) and daughter (3)

What did you and your group choose from the menu?
For starters, Hubby chose the chicken goujons with Reggae Reggae sauce, and myself the prawn cocktail. Both VERY nice!
For mains, Hubby chose the cheese & bacon burger, my son had the children's beef burger with sides of tortillas and fries, my daughter had spaghetti bolognese with sides of corn and tortillas and I ordered the half rack of ribs and chicken strips combo. For desserts, both children ordered the sweetie sundae.

The food was all very delicious and tasty, with a great choice available on the menu. My ribs were a little disappointing since they arrived luke warm, however, I did decline the waitresses offer of a replacement since I was reluctant to delay my dinner and wait a replacement. My daughter loves here veggies, and I was surprised to see no mixed veg option on the menu, (instead, she chose corn on the cob) however, the children thoroughly enjoyed their food, with much excitement at the sweetie sundae for dessert.

How was the general ambience of the restaurant? The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived (5.30pm) so it was difficult to gauge an atmosphere, although the staff were very friendly, the lighting low and we were situated next to a nice warm fire. It was a nice, cosy evening!

How knowledgeable were the staff serving you? We didn't have cause to question the staff on any issues, however, all staff were very friendly and attentive. Towards the end of our meal, we did observe there were lots of offers / deals available. We possibly would have benefited from a brief run-through from our server - not only for the night in question, but to encourage a return visit, perhaps.

What did your children think of the visit? They loved it! On arrival we were presented with the children's colouring sheets and crayons, however, only one pack of crayons was available. We managed to quickly avert any upset and the children went on to have a great, fun time.

What was the highlight of the visit? At the end of the meal, the restaurant manager introduced herself to us, and seemed genuinely interested in our feedback. Everything I have commented here, I shared with her also. Some of the points we discussed:

  • the issue with the telephone line clarity / call pick-up via hotel
  • we spoke at length about the children's menu. I totally appreciate that you cannot 'please' everyone, but the feedback I shared was that the menu was almost a little too extensive for young children. With so many options, I had to work hard to keep my kiddos attention away from the colouring whilst I read out the list of mains & sides. We discussed how TT had introduced photos of the food to aid the children, although, I felt these images were too small and in a dimly lit environment, difficult for young eyes to know what the foods were. My suggestion of a printable placemat with all the childrens options and a 'tick sheet' was warmly welcomed with a promise of feedback to HO :)

I also made the suggestion that the colouring packs are presented AFTER customers place their orders. On arrival at a restaurant, there is so much to keep the children attentive... choosing drinks, food, looking around etc. On this occasion, the children had whizzed through their activities immediately on arrival, we struggled to keep their attention whilst we chose food, and then had 'boredom' whilst we awaited food. The food was fast... only 10-15 minutes, but for children, that's an eternity.

Any other comments?
We had a WONDERFUL evening at TT Lynton Court, Bournemouth. Special thanks to the Mumsnet team for co-ordinating this. Also, special thanks to the restaurant manager for taking the time to sit with us and learn more about our visit, and also to the wonderful waitress who took over our table for the last half of our meal. THANK YOU!

Myself, DH, DS1 age 5 and DS2 age 3 visited Lockyers Quay in Plymouth on Sunday 13th October.

Despite it being a Sunday, none of us chose a roast. My husband went fr the steak burger and I chose the fishcakes on recommendation from two of the waiting staff who independently recommended them and said they were one of the nicest dishes they'd ever done. One son chose pasta and the other fish fingers and chips. I liked the fact that we could choose the children's side dishes separately from the main part of the dish. This was particularly handy for us as my eldest son has cerebral palsy and finds it hard to eat some foods. Not having ask staff if it was possible to swap items on a dish was a refreshing change.

The restaurant has an open and airy feel, we had a table right by the window and the boys loved looking out into the harbour. Both the restaurants and the toilets were very clean and well presented.

The staff knew the menu well and could recommend with knowledge. The children felt welcomed immediately with activity packs and balloons. he staff's attention to detail ran to noticing my three year old's birthday badge and talking to him about his birthday. The staff were also great with our eldest son, he isn't the tidiest of eaters and they handily brought us extra napkins without being asked when they could see us cleaning him up!

The boys enjoyed their food and the activity packs. My eldest son often struggles with any wait for food but it was manageable amount of time with the distraction of crayons and balloons!

The highlight was the kitchen staff using the chocolate sauce to write happy birthday on DS2's dessert plate and then the waiting staff coming over to sing happy birthday too him. It made his day, and ours.

We hadn't visited before despite often passing on the way to the Aquarium, it will be very tempting to call in next time!

Hi MNHQ - just noticed that the text formatting on the local site (Essex) doesn't seem to be working the same way as the main site, particularly for embedding links in posts, and making italics etc???

Hello Blondie,
We've just tested links and italics but it's working for us. Could you send us a url where it went wrong and we'll look into it? You can pm or email [email protected], whichever's easiest

When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited The Charter in Aylesbury on Sunday 13th October at 5 pm.

~ Who were you with?
There were 5 of us all together, me, DH, DS1 (10), DD (7) and DS2 (4).

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
There was a huge amount of choice on the menu, and we all chose something different. The two younger children had the children's menu- my son chose a grilled chicken breast, chips and peas, my daughter cheese and tomato pizza, garlic bread and corn on the cob. My eldest son had a cheeseburger, chips sand onion rings from the adult menu. My husband went for a mixed grill and in had the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The portions were big, so only the children managed desert- the children's creation of ice cream, brownie chnks, chocolate sauce and marshmallows was a huge hit, as was the banana split. My eldest went for the chocolate and honeycomb sundae which was big and very sweet! we had coffees- they serve Costa coffee in house.

~ How was the general ambience?
The restaurant and bar were both busy. Nice friendly atmosphere with lots of families with younger children around. We had a table that was in its own booth which was nice as the children could spread out without disturbing anyone.

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
The staff were very friendly and knew the menu well. They told us the specials and also recommended other dishes they thought we might like. Very chatty with the children.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
The children loved it! They liked the variety of the menu and the relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. The activity pack was great for the younger two, and they older ones were extremely pleased free pop refills!

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
The puddings!

We had a really nice time here. The restaurant is clean and friendly. Staff are hospitable. There is a great deal of choice oin the menu and the food we had was good. The standard is about the same as the Harvester or other similarly priced chain restaurants. A great choice for a relaxed family meal.

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited Lockyer's Quay in Plymouth on Sunday at 5pm

~ Who were you with?
My husband and children aged 5 and 3

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
We chose the Warm bread trio and sharing nachos to start, while one child had corn on the cob and the other had garlic bread. My son happily tucked into his garlic bread enjoying every mouthful, and my daughter quickly munched around her corn on the cob saying how much she enjoyed it. She then shared the warm trio of bread with us which was 3 long thin sticks of flavoured bread, all warm, soft and delicious with garlic butter or oil to dip them in. My daughter loved the garlic butter. My husband and I also shared the Nacho's which were good, I loved the tortilla crisps, they had a good flavour although my husband did mention the lack of jalepeno's on the top, but it hadn't mentioned them on the menu so he was happy with what was there.
For mains my daughter had a pizza with 2 toppings and my son had macaroni cheese. They both like being able to select 2 sides and both chose peas and skinny fries. Both my husband and I had the Quorn burger, he had his doubled up. We both thoroughly enjoyed these and they came with skinny fries which were good. Personally I would have like a little garnish with mine.
The children both had sweetie sundae for dessert which they thought was amazing. They loved the little dishes to poor there own sweets on and the flake was a hit. I had the Oreo cookie pie, being a huge oreo fan I was a little disappointed as the thick camarel layer was too sickly sweet for me- I wish I had gone for the brownie now - oh well there's always next time. Husband just went for a latte which being from Costa is always good.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
It was quiet when we arrived and even though it got busier it didn't get too loud which was good. The restaurant seemed calm and relaxed with music playing. I think it was a very pleasant atmosphere and perfect for families.

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Very knowledgable, I was quite impressed. We got personal recommendations of dishes on the menu, any question we asked got answered in a efficient friendly manor. The waitress was very good and always attentive when needed. She also used her initiative when doing things which often I find lacks in a lot of waiting staff. Very friendly, helpful and made us feel comfortable and welcome.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
They loved it, they always love the excitement of a restaurant and were pleased to be handed a children's drawing sheet as soon as we arrived along with a pack of crayons each. Shortly after they were offered balloons. They were happy with the food and love things coming up in separate pots like the sides and their dessert. They also love chocolate milkshakes which were on the menu and my daughter's favourite was the babycino which I let her have with dessert. It makes her feel very grown up and she enjoys drinking it.

~ What was the highlight of the visit? For me the great service and not having to wait long between courses with young children. Also good food such as the bread trio and quorn burger. For my husband his double quorn burger and having a relaxing meal out with the family (he hates busy restaurants where you feel rushed and it's hard to get the waitress's attention). For the children it was the activity sheet, fun display of the food, the sweetie dessert and babycino!

When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
Visited Cheadle Royal 12 October

Who were you with?
With my mum and 2 children (11yrs & 8yrs)

What did you and your group choose from the menu?
I had the oven baked cod followed by the sticky toffee pudding. The top layer of coating on the cod was a bit too dry but the fish was perfectly cooked. The sticky toffee pudding was perfect.
My mum had the haddock & leek fishcakes – these were quite small but tasted fine. The kids had the children’s meals (pop-in chicken and chips) followed by the adult puddings, one had the rocky road sundae, the other had the chocolate fudge cake. They loved everything

How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
It was very quiet when we arrived – 1pm on Sunday. The restaurant gradually filled up with more families. The restaurant is big – so it doesn’t really have an atmosphere but it means you can have your own space - quite good for a family meal.

How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Our waiter was really friendly, attentive and gave us advice about the dishes.

What did your children think of the visit?
They thought their food was great, they really liked the friendly waiter and they also tested out the kids activity packs which were quite fun.

What was the highlight of the visit?
For me – it was a nice relaxed meal where we could sit as a family without lots of distractions, at a restaurant that I wouldn’t usually go to. For the kids it was definitely the rare chance to each have a grown up pudding to themselves!

Any other comments?
Thanks very much for the opportunity to try it out.

TheOneWithTheHair · 23/10/2013 20:58

When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?

Cheadle Royal on Sunday 20th October at 12pm.

Who were you with?

MIL, FIL, dh, ds1(17), dd(10), ds2(4)

What did you and your group choose from the menu?

Dd and ds2 had nachos and garlic bread from the children's menu to start. The rest of us shared two sharing platters between us. Then dd had fish fingers, skinny chips and peas. Ds2 had chicken poppers, skinny chips and peas. MIL had gammon and egg. FIL, DH, DS1 and I all had burgers of some variety.

How was the general ambience of the restaurant?

It was lovely, relaxed and very welcoming. I didn't feel I had to keep shushing the children and as it was dd's birthday, that was a great relief. It wasn't very busy but there were a few families there so we didn't feel like we shouldn't be there.

How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?

The server we had was very good. He was friendly, knowledgable and attentive. He also knew when to leave us alone. He couldn't have been more helpful.

What did your children think of the visit?

Ds1 was unimpressed but he is a chef and usually quite picky about things. Dd and ds2 loved it however and had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

What was the highlight of the visit?

Not having to stress about noise, mess etc because I had a 4yo with me. It was very relaxed.

Any other comments?

Unfortunately, although the restaurant ticked all the boxes for staff and ambience, the food was absolutely dire!! Nearly everything we had was over cooked and burnt. Dd's fish fingers were so over cooked that they were almost in edible and I don't think any one of us finished our food. I knew that the food would not be fresh but I didn't expect that the kitchen staff would not even know how to prepare it properly. I felt very let down.
On the face of things, one can take their family for a restaurant meal there without it costing the earth but it's only a good deal if the food is prepared properly. I would not go back for that reason. It's a real shame. I equally would not recommend it to my friends or family as I feel it would be a waste of their money.

Thank you for picking me for this product test. It was certainly an interesting one.

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
We visited Mill Lodge just outside Lincoln on Saturday 12th Oct at 5pm

~ Who were you with?
DH, DS1 (3.9), DS2 (1.9) and myself

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
We had the sharing platter between all of us, the dc only ate the garlic bread but that ment there was plenty left for dh and I to eat! DH went for the chicken and ham pie - very nice he said, I had the fish n chips, which was good tho the chips could have been cooked for a little longer (but I do like them crispy). DS1 chose sausage mash and beans, and ds2 had meatballs, garlic bread and peas. DH ate all of his, I left a bit (but only cos I wanted to leave room for pudding) Grin Ds2 didn't like the meat balls (but he can be fussy when he wants to be!) but the pasta went, and ds1 ate most of his.
The dc shared a strawberry sundae, DH declined pud but I had room for the Oreo cookie pie. Drinks were milk shakes for the dc, lemonade for DH and me.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
It got busier as the evening went on, but we didn't have to wait long for our food, it was a horrible wet, dank day but the pub was light and welcoming.

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
Very, Paul was our waiter and he was helpful and knowledgable but not too in our faces. He either went on a break or his shift finished partway through our meal as he wasn't there when we left, but other staff (who's names escape me) were good too.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
Ds1 liked the activity pack provided (ds2 a bit too young for it, but he did try and chew on the crayons several times), they ate what they liked from the food and ds1 was able to choose himself from the picture menu. By then end of the meal they were a little tired and fractious, but we had been there for over an hour and a half, and it was close to their bedtime.

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
Food quality and the staff being v helpful and friendly. Only having to pay less than £5 for the whole meal! Thanks mumsnet and table table.

TheGhostsAndGhoulsOfHitchhikin · 24/10/2013 18:02

~ When did you visit and which restaurant did you visit?
Mill lodge Lincoln Wednesday 23rd October at 7.45pm

~ Who were you with?
Myself and DD age 12

~ What did you and your group choose from the menu?
For starters I had garlic and herb mushrooms with garlic mayo dip, DD had tomato soup. We were both very pleased with the starter, although we did not eat all of it as we wanted space for the main! The food was piping hot and tasty.
For the main course I had sirloin steak, I asked for my steak rare and that is exactly how it arrived! I ordered pepper sauce to go with the steak also, it was a bit watery but by no means reflected on the taste, it was lovely! The chips, mushrooms, peas and tomatoes were all cooked to perfection.
DD had fish and chips, and she really enjoyed it although she did comment that the fish did not have much flavour, I did try some but after eating steak I couldn't really tell. Again the chips and peas were cooked to perfection.
I did not have a dessert but DD had a huge Banoffe sundae, she asked for it with no cream and that is how it arrived, she really enjoyed that but she felt rather sickly afterwards due to eating too much! I do not like ice cream but I tasted it and the ice cream was delicious, extremely tasty.

~ How was the general ambience of the restaurant?
The restaurant was quite busy and I was surprised how many were in there, we were seated towards the back of the restaurant overlooking the patio area, it was spacious and there was plenty room around each table, there was music playing at a reasonable level, not too loud to distract from conversation but not too quiet that we could not hear it.
We were close to the toilets so we did get quite a few people walking past our table but that was no problem at all, however a couple of times there seemed to be a few people hovering outside the toilet door and I could not work out why till I had to visit myself and realised there was only one toilet cubicle in there.

~ How knowledgeable were the staff serving you?
The staff were very knowledgable and did a great job, When we first arrived we were shown to our table immediately by a male member of staff from behind the bar then we were looked after by Rachel for the rest of the night. Although it was very busy she was with us within a couple of minutes to take our order, she was knowledgeable and attentive and explained the menu choices to us. She was not in our face at all and empty dishes were cleared away promptly. Rachel explained to us about the rewards system and gave me a card to register. The waiter who brought out the food was also very polite.

~ What did your children think of the visit?
DD really enjoyed going out with just myself while the boys (dp,ds1,ds2 and dss) were left at home! She enjoyed her meal and seen it as a lovely treat, she has already asked when we can go again. Although she felt extremely sick when we left due to the huge banoffee sundae she was more worried about the fact she never said bye to Rachel who she said in her words 'has been really lovely to us all night'. She had to make a swift exit to the door to get some air.

~ What was the highlight of the visit?
The highlight of the visit was defiantly spending some time with DD and she really enjoyed it too, it was lovely to go out for a meal with her and we will certainly be doing it again.

The only thing I had a problem with was the fact I tried trying to get anyone to answer the phone to book a table is near on impossible. I booked last week and had to cancel due to unforseen circumstances, I tried for over 4 hours to get through to cancel but I couldn't get hold of anyone so could not cancel. I had a similar experience trying to get through yesterday to book for last night.
