This thread is for the members of the M&S Mumsnet panel who have been trying out M&S shapewear.

We've posted some feedback questions below to get you started but please feel free to add any other comments you have. Everyone who adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 M&S giftcard.

Please remember to include details of which shapewear item(s) you bought with your £30 voucher in your response.

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Ordered mine online this evening as I haven't been able to get into town and I didn't want to let the mn side down! I opted for store collection which is free (dh works in town, I hope the packaging is discreet!) and I used the code for £5 off when ordering over £30 of lingerie. Thank you M&S. I have ordered three items. I have used their shapewear 60 denier tights £6 before and I love them, they are a really nice black and thickness for the office in Autumn/Winter and I can recommend they do flatter the tummy area if you have minor toning issues. Trying to remember what that was like being post baby by 5 months and still not as trim as I should be! (But comfortable!)

Q1. I have never purchased any of the range before the product test, I looked at the range online and got a good understanding of what was available, and what each piece was for, I did see something online that I felt was for me.

Q2. Both, after looking online, I went to the local store, the item I was looking for was not available in store.

Q3. The stock in store was quite poor, only a few items were available, but I did question a member of staff and she told me they could order in what I wanted, after looking at what was available, I decided to go for something different anyway. What was available had a good range of sizes.

Q4. The items I bought are very good quality, and good value for money, they wash and wear well and do what it says on the tin.

Q5. I am very satisfied with my purchases, they fit nicely and feel like great quality, would have been nice to have more choice in store.

Q6. I think as I have said before, more stock in store would be great, I asked a member of staff about the fit, she said most people buy a size bigger!! I decided to go with my own size and its perfect, maybe that needs looking into. If I am looking for shapewear in the future, I would buy again from M&S but probably online.

Q7. Yes, I already have, my daughter is getting married and has been looking, so I recommended the brand, the fit and the quality and she is very impressed.

I wanted the ?waist sculpt firm control bonded knickers? but couldn?t find in-store or online so went for ?light control secret slimming bonded thigh slimmer? and ?light control floral lace bandeau knickers?.

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

Never, I am a size 8 so not the typical demographic but despite being relatively slim my stomach and bottom are not what they were pre children. I don?t want to look slimmer but I definitely want a smoother silhouette. It was very easy to find out about the different items available. I have always thought the M&S website better than most retailer websites. It is easy to navigate and search by a number of criteria. More often than not the products I want have user reviews. I did find what I was looking for and was pleasantly surprised to see how much was available in a size 8. I find that most retailers assume a smaller person wouldn?t need this sort of underwear but slim does not always mean toned. There are even a few items in size 6.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

I had a good look online as this is how I prefer to show. I was hoping to take advantage of the ?lingerie? £5 off plus free store delivery. They didn?t have what I wanted though and I am terribly impatient so I went instore the same day. I deally I would have used online shopping. I don?t find the M&S store layout very inspiring and there were two other women there labouring over their choices (mumsnetters?) No staff were visible but then I probably would feel a little embarrassed anyway.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?

As I said I could not find what I originally wanted but then I only gave it a day. If I can?t find it immediately I will usually go elsewhere. Online stock levels look poor for the items I was viewing. Other retailers will give you an idea of when items will be back in stock, why not M&S?

Colours were pretty dull, either black, white or nude. Granted some of them items were not exactly underwear you want to parade around in but other pieces were quite pretty. A bit of colour might make them feel less functional.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

I was happy with the results but they didn?t transform me into Heidi Klum and for that price I want a little more. I may buy some of the £9.50 2 pack pants in the future but I doubt I would spend upwards of £30 on just one item.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?

I thought the thigh control were soft and light, no problems with breathability. They contoured me as I was expecting but the bottom of the legs did not quite cling.
The knickers were perfect.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

Better range of colours and some sexier pieces so I don?t feel quite so much like I am wearing my functional pants. Extend the swimwear range.

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I absolutely would. There is room for improvement in the range but on the whole the items do what they purport to and there is a large range to choose from.

Thanks FOr letting me test for this, I brought Ultimate Magic Body Define Waist & Thigh Cincher in black (wanted nude colour but not instock) size 12 £35

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? No not M&S
When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available?
Not the easiest, struggled to find it using the mobile website and when on the PC version I still struggled to find it in the drop down menus and work our what was shapewear and what wasn't
Did you find what you had in mind? Not really I wanted to be transformed into a size 8, that didn't happen. I was wanting something more supportive.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?
I looked for shapewear instore, It wasn't easy to distinguish what was shapewear and what wasn't. It was only through seeing it online that I could pick it out. I brought online in the end. Long queue at the checkouts and no offer of help from assistants meant I left it to do at home when DC are in bed.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not?
Personally I would have prefered a White option. nude was out of stock or I would have gone for that. I would have also liked it to have been jjust above the knee length rather than mid thigh, just feels a bit odd.
How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Not great considering I'm average sized I would normally expect more of the range to be available in my size. I wouldn't have normally brought it because white or nude colour wasn't available.
Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not? yes ish, it was on my list of things I wanted but would have prefered others had they been in my size. Also would have been keener if it wasn't black.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?
Not really £35 plus postage would have sent it out of my price range. It's not an everyday item so I just couldn't of justified the price. If it was £25ish to go under a dress for a special occasion then I may have brought it.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?
Item not as supportive as I expected, disappointed by lack of care/attention of staff at the branch I visited, I would of appreciated some assistance but its not something you can just go up and ask advice for. I would need them to make themselves known and then I would have asked. I was pleased with the speed of delivery.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?
I didn't really feel much different from wearing it, nothing like the woman pictured on the web. I would have liked a swimsuit range, thats something I would really go for.

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not? Possibily for a special occasion.

This is what I bought so a bit over the voucher value:

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

This is the first time I've bought from the range. If I'm honest, the range looked more glamourous online than it did in reality in the shops so I was a little disappointed. Ideally, I wanted knickers and a bra but, as far as I could see, there weren't any bras to match knickers. Usually I'm a bit of a stickler for matching knickers and bras and couldn't find any nude bras that were a colour match for the knickers. It would have been nice to include some of the shapewear into wider ranges so you had a choice of co-ordinating bras. This is why I went for the body which I don't normally go for.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

I had an initial look online to see what would interest but then bought in-store. Whilst I buy a lot online, I think it's really difficult to see the cut and potential fit of underwear so prefer to buy in-store.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not? It was a little muddled up when I went in. There were a lot of knickers and it was kind of difficult to see what the actual difference was between them all. I probably should have asked for help but was trying to keep DS under control as well and stop him from manhandling and talking to the mannequins at the same time!

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

I did feel it was quite expensive but having only worn it today for the first time, I will wait and see how it wears and washes. At the moment it is comfortable on but a full day at work and a job interview will see if it meets the standard!

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?

At the moment it is comfortable but I'm honestly not sure if it is really doing much to "shape" me. It is certainly giving me a smooth line under my dress. I guess I expected, for firm control, for it to be a bit more structured. I am certainly sitting more straight but that could be psychogical. I also seem to need to go to the loo more but again that could be down to nerves about the job interview or psychological! I think I will have to wear it a few more times under different items of clothing (I live in dresses for work) to see if it visibly makes a difference to how I look and the fit of my clothes.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

It would have been lovely to have more co-ordinated/ colour matching items so you could mix and match. I tried to get the vintage style knickers and the bra but these weren't available. A bit of old school glamour, especially in the bigger bra sizes would be lovely.

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think I'll have to wear the body a few more times and see how it wears/ washes before I'd recommend this particular product. I think I would suggest some of the cheaper items to friends (not that we talk about knickers all that much!) but would be more hesitant about recommending something as expensive as the body.

PS. A good tip is not to try and put the body on just after you've put body lotion on and when you have a 4 year old dashing around getting underneath your feet. It makes getting into it like a Houdini stunt.

Firstly I have searched the website high and low and cannot find the item I purchased in store so can't link to it!

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

I have bought shape wear before from M&S. I lost 112 pounds and have lots of saggy skin around my middle and thighs and have used some of the shapewear products on an almost daily basis for the last 8 months or so. When I went to spend my voucher, I was looking for a solution to a specific clothes problem and wasn't sure what there would be in the range to solve it. I wanted something that would hold my stomach in when wearing summer dresses and skirts. During winter, I have worn one of the shape wear camisole tops daily, but I find that they ride up if I am not wearing trousers or leggings. I had tried the shape wear knickers previously for this, but found they create a bulge above the waistline. I had also tried spanx style high-rise knickers but they are not comfortable enough to wear and can roll down. The lady that helped me in store (Marble Arch, Oxford St branch) was very knowledgable about the range, listened to what I needed, and showed me a selection of products that might work. I tried these on, but none were right for various reasons. I went back to her and she suggested the item that I bought which is like a body, but stops below the bra so you wear your own bra with it.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

I shopped in store, but I have done both before. Because my local branch is one of their flagship stores, the selection is good. I like the online site as the reviews are usually helpful in sizing.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?

I think the range is very good, and has expanded over the time I have used it. Some items are very old lady ish but there are many more sexy items like the one I bought. Stock was fine in the store I used but it is one of their largest.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

I think it was fairly expensive at £28 but if it lasts through daily wear and tear, then I will be happy.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?

I am very happy with it. It is an innovative solution. I had previously not looked at body style underwear as they remind me of what my mum wears! Also, I have comfortable bras and didn't want to wear an all in one with bra. This body makes me feel really confident about my body shape, makes me feel sexy wearing it and it is really comfortable.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

The one thing I would like to see is more of the cotton feel shape wear. I spent all winter in the cotton feel camisoles which gave me a lovely shape and were really comfortable to wear. I think a range of bodies, high rise pants etc would be good in that feel. I would not buy my shape wear anywhere else (though I do admit to owning spanx!)

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I do recommend it all the time. Some of my friends have bought the camisoles. I have mostly skinny flat stomached friends who don't need it though!

Could I just add to my feedback, that I would really appreciate an 'email me when back in stock' feature on the website. I do purchase quite a lot through the M&S website and it is common for many things of popular sizes not to be in stock, this means you have to keep checking the website for restocking. It would be nice to receive an email when an item was actually restocked.

Thank you.

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

A. Not bought any before, but looked online and it was easy to filter to the shapewear. I was impressed by how many different products there were. I fancied something to control my thighs.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

A. I did intend to shop online, but the product i wanted was out of stock in my size so i went to the store. I would have preferred online as there is usually a bigger range, but on this occasion it was actually better to try it on.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?

A. I got two pairs of the Secret Slimming Thigh Slimmers, one cotton and one lycra light control. The cotton ones were only available in white, and I was looking for black, or nude at a push.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

A. At £15 each it will depend on how well they wash and last.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?

A. The lycra material ones are comfortable and silky and do not "cling", the cotton ones I had some concerns that the lace around the bottom of the legs would be visible but it isnt. I am very impressed with both of them but I dont think they make me look any slimmer in the thigh, maybe more smooth under dresses. I do like them though.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

A. Make the cotton ones in a colour other than white! If we actually had a summer, I think I would prefer the cotton material in the heat rather than the lycra. Maybe some training for staff too, as the lady in the store tried to tell me that the word "Light" on the hanger label referred to the material not the level of control. As I had your voucher I bought one of each anyway.

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

A. Yes I probably would.

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?
I did a lot of research online before I went into the biggest store near here. I've bought Shapewear vests before so knew if I could find nothing else I liked I could fall back on more of those. After having read the comments here, I wish I'd known about the swimsuits but they weren't near the lingerie. I ended up with another vest and two sets of shapewear knickers/shorts

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?
I researched online & would have ordered but couldn't find what I wanted so bought in store. I think for checking the shapewear fits properly and doesn't leave you with unexpected bulges and squeezes you in where you want (and as much as you need) I'd almost always want to try it on first - especially if it was to go under a particular dress.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?
I wanted to get a Firm Control Multiway Panelled Dress Slip but they didnt come in size 32. I really liked the champagne and smokey grey colours of the bodies/camisoles.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?
Yes, I bought the kind of items I'll wear almost every day so will prove to be good value.
Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?
I didnt realise the knickers came in cotton. Love them!
Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?
Start the range at 32. I'm 5' and have a belly I'd rather keep squished in under my posh frocks!
Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend them, especially the cotton vests. They were a real find when I'd had my baby & hadnt lost the tyre around my waist.

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind? Many years ago I had one of the "bras with skirt attached" thingy's, which I wore a few times under a tight dress, but I found it rode up, so off it went to the charity shop.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why? I looked online, and found it totally confusing, so went to the shop. Would prefer to shop in person as you need to try it on, but I'd have liked to be able to browse on-line to choose, then just try it on in the shop.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not? Yes, got my size OK (size 16)

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why? Since I got it almost for free, then yes, but I would resent paying that much for something which I will only wear perhaps once or twice...just for a special night out.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by? Yes, it squeezed my belly in, but it was not very comfortable in the hot weather and hard to get off when using the toilet. I felt a bit silly and as if I was trying to be younger than my years, however, it has encouraged me to try and improve my diet a bit, and do some exercise to improve my figure.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from? Wouldn't buy shapewear again, and think on the whole it's all a bit sexist. Why should we try to be a particular shape? What's wrong with the way we are naturally?

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
If someone was desperate for a special occasion, maybe, but I don't like the concept really. I think I have got to the age of not caring anymore.

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

I have bought the tights before and really like the sleeker shape they give me. I had not bought anything else although I have vague memories of something similar years ago but it was much more uncomfortable. I found the knickers I wanted as I wasn't prepared, in the heat, to buy anything too restrictive and needed knickers anyway. The Brazilian ones are not much use really but the big knickers really conquer the muffin top and I will be buying mroe.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

I thought we had been asked to try both so I did. Online was easy and quick and it arrived within 3 days (even though I live in a really remote part of Scotland). I was not too happy about the delivery charge and felt that it was excessive and, perhaps, should be free over a certain amount. I ordered on the day the voucher card arrived.
I also went to the Argyll Street branch which I found more intimidating. There was no one to ask and, having got off the lift at the wrong floor, I had been through schoolwear which was jam packed with assistants. The tills were busy and I was not comfortable queuing to ask so I did my own thing. I had been so taken with the stuff I had bought online, however, that I was tempted to spend far more than my vouchers and didn't because I rather thought, "Bugger this" as there was no one to ask. I think online in future but it was nice to see and feel the material and to find the quality out first. The branch I was in was huge and so there was plenty of choice. However, more colours would be great as would shapewear that matched bras etc.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?

Yes, got everything I wanted although in store I had to look around (luckily not in a rush) to see everything before deciding.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

Not the Brazilian knickers as they don't do much but the other ones were and I bought some more expensive ones and some that came in pairs and were little more than ordinary knickers.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?
Very happy indeed. Really loved the stuff except Brazilian.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

M&S always for me for a huge number of reasons. Would like matching bras. also you need to be able to see the colour of tights (flesh coloured ones seem to vary so much).

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. They make a really big difference and, due to needing to put a wash on, I am not wearing any today and feel muffin-toppy and middle aged.

Hi - thanks for the voucher :) I bought the Secret Slimming Thigh Slimmer (light) for £15 and the Low Leg pants (Ultimate)

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

Yes I have bought shapewear from M&S before but not for ages. I researched online and found it easy to do. I liked the idea of targetting certain areas that I wasn't happy with (e.g. I want to slim my tummy and thighs) and I found items that did that.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

I researched online but bought in store. However, I think I did that the wrong way round. I went in store because I wanted to double check the fabric and thickness/tightmess of the garments before making my final choice but there wasn't nearly enough range. I did make sure I asked a member of staff about the shapewear (although there was noone on the shop floor which was really disappointing so I had to ask the lady in the fitting rooms who could only asnwer my questions off the top of her head, not being actually in the shapewear section). She told me I could order items in but I didn't have time to do that so I selected two items instead.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?

Stock availability in my size was fine. However, there really wasn't enough choice in the store I visited (Preston). I wanted the Ultimate Magic Body Define Thigh Slimmer that I had seen online (and would have spent the whole voucher on that item alone) but had to settle for the 'light' thigh slimmer.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

They are good quality items but no, I do not think they are especially good value. The low leg pants at £19.50 really do seem expensive when there are other items in the range with more material and not much more money.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?

Unfortunately I am rather disappointed with both of the items I bought for different reasons.

I bought the pants in my current size but I should have bought a size below. I can feel no control in them at all, apart from they do make a slight difference from the side - but nothing I couldn't get from holding my stomach muscles in which I do normally anyway! Sorry.

I wouldn't have bought the thigh slimmer item if it had not been for having the voucher but I wanted to try it out for the review process - I would have gone back online and bought the Ultimate Magic Body Define Thing Slimmer.

Ic an't personally see the point of shapewear if it's light because I don't want something for every day purposes but for a smart work function or celebratory event such as a night out/wedding etc. The material is silky and I do like the fact that there are no seams but I cannot tell if there is much of a difference on my thighs. I tried the item on under my jeans and apart from the jeans sliding on smoothly, the only other difference is a visible garment line through my jeans half-way up my thighs. Not very subtle!

Such a shame because I really did want something that would make a difference and I chose the best I could out of a poor selection in store.

If I can take them back and get a credit note I shall go back online and buy one of those other thigh slimmer garments as it appears to have excellent reviews.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

More stock in store. Also I didn't know that swimwear was included, possibly because I didn't see it in the same place online nor in store, where all the swimming costumes are on another floor (until I read a post above). When someone is shopping for shapewear it would be a great idea to remind ladies that swimwear also comes with control features.

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I probably would but I would certainly recommend buying a size smaller and shopping in store first, then online.

Ok, will do this and then copy and paste any relevant feedback from previous thread too

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

  • No never bought from M&S before. I bought some cheepo stuff from Primark and hated it, was intrigued as to how M&S fared, and to me it was expensive. The range online was vast, and easy to look through and find things in categories - e.g. pants, girdles, tights etc. I went to a major M&S too and their products were all displayed in one place and with a huge range IMO.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?
-I browsed in store but felt a bit like I was being watched by other shoppers! No one wants to admit they need shapewear ;-) I bought online, was skeptical because I couldnt try anything on - but all the size 12s I ordered fitted well, so am happy with true to size fit.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?
  • Stock for me was all fine. I would prefer packs of two having two black pairs tbh, as opposed to 1 fawn and 1 black - but saying that, the fawn are fine under jeans etc. I didnt have any problem finding my size, which as a 12 is normally quite unusual. Shapewear for me is a neccesity now after two kids, despite having lost a lot of weight.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?
  • The two packs of pants, excellent value. I would prefer nearer the £7 mark than £9.50, but tbh they are cotton and they are comfy, they work and they seem to wash up well. The other stuff (like lace shorts £7.50 for one pair) are a littler pricer, and I wouldnt be able to justify purchasing them tbh. And as for shapewear like shorts for £35 - ha ha, I could buy a whole outfit for that!! But I am on a tight budget - and I do think I have been persuaded to switch my normal M&S high legs to shapewear instead, so it is good value for me

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?
  • Impressed. maybe different body lengths could be good - I struggled a little with the length and where they sat. I was also sent a pack of 2 size 12s - and one was a 12, the other a 14!

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?
-Bras. Comfy, crop top style thick strapped bras for sleeping, to keep your shape. They would be top of my list. I would stick to M&S for shapewear now, simply as I know it fits and feels comfy whilst working and not being restrictive.

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
-Definitely. The double packs of pants have sold me!!

Copying from other thread:

The light control cotton pants are good. Not much bigger in size than my normal.m&s pants but definite tummy tone. Wore them under jeans and so far so good

They seem to do a good job though. Ive worn mine constantly since I got them Saturday and have felt slimmer and tidier in everything Ive worn. I honestly think I will be a convert.

what you lose by having a tight fit on the waist you definitely gain by no vpl.

I ordered 4 different types of pants to try. My main issue is my belly overhang from 2 sections and losing weight, so thought I would try as many out as I can.

I have For Going out, incase I ever get a date

as well as Light control cotton pants

and firm control cotton pants

and lastly Light control shorts

I've just thought of something else in relation to Q6, if there's anything M&S could improve.

How about, show us some photos of real sized women wearing the garments! I mean, it would really help to know just how sucky-in an item will be if a size 14 woman was wearing a pair of thing slimming shorts or a wobbly size 12. I can understand if you think that the sight of such real-size women wearing shapewear would put most shoppers off, but seeing the slimmest of ladies wearing tummy control pants is rather incongruous.

Just saying!

Hi,

I spent my voucher on 3 packs of shapewear: a pack of two light control shorts in nude and black (www.marksandspencer.com/Pack-Light-Control-Seam-free-Shorts/dp/B003BA8PWQ?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_31&nodeId=309701031&sr=1-31&qid=1339064227), a pack of two light control shorts in white and grey (www.marksandspencer.com/Pack-Light-Control-Cotton-Shorts/dp/B0016PCNN0?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_17&nodeId=309701031&sr=1-17&qid=1339064167) and a pair of shapewear shorts in black (www.marksandspencer.com/Flatter-Me-High-Light-Shaping-Shorts/dp/B002X0YD6M?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_2&nodeId=1837423031&sr=1-2&qid=1339064081&pf_rd_r=1RG49RJGQKPYF4DR03XY&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=43270030&pf_rd_p=215570647&pf_rd_s=related-items-3).

This came to £31.00 and I put the remaining £4.00 towards a nightie on the same floor of M&S.

Q1. I have bought M&S Shapewear before, I bought the Ultimate Magic Body Define Waist & Thigh Cincher before christmas to wear with my party dress. When I first started looking into the Shapewear range for this test I looked at all the items on the website, read lots of the reviews there, looked at the different products available. I had no problems finding the products and reading through everything. I had a rough idea of what I wanted to find and found it straight away.

Q2. I looked at lots of the products online but then had a good look at them in store and bought there (York main store). I prefer to buy instore if possible as I like to look at the fabric and feel it before buying. However, I'm not keen on trying Shapewear products on in store, as generally I'm tired and stressed and also find the changing cubicles quite restrictive when trying on tight items! The member of staff I spoke to instore was very helpful and informed me that if anything didn't fit I could bring it back.

Q3. Yes! I was amazed at how much choice there was. Everything I wanted was available in my size and there was plenty of stock in store.

Q4. Yes, I did think the items I bought were good value for money, although I thought some of the firm control items were quite expensive at £35 per item.

Q5. I'm quite happy with them. They are LIGHT control. I didn't know what to expect but wanted something that would give me a bit of control but still be comfy to wear every day. All the shorts I bought are quite comfy to wear and offer light control. For what I paid I think they are fine. Not particularly impressed or disappointed. I hoped to find something that I could wear every day without feeling uncomfortable.

Q6. To be honest, I thought there was so much choice, I can't think of anything that is missing from the range. Maybe some different colours in the light control shorts, so pink, blue, lilac etc.? In general I don't tend to buy nude so any colours other than nude would suit me! If I were to shop for Shapewear again, M&S would be my first stop and always would have been. I might look in Debenhams and John Lewis as well. The only thing I miss at M&S is bras to fit DD+ that are attractive and also DD+ bras with high cotton content for the summer. We need more choice and certainly more colours! And matching knickers/shorts!

Q7. Yes, I would definitely recommend M&S if shapewear came up in a conversation with a friend, because of the wide range there is to choose from and the fact that certainly the firm control does a very good job.

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

I havent had shapewear before but always fancied a pair of the spanx type shorts for under slinky dresses. I looked online and watched the online advice video which was informative. but then when I went to buy online EVERYTHING I chose was out of stock in my size.. I eventually found 1 Qty Body Solutions Cupless Panelled Slip when the item came it was exactly what I wanted... until I tried it on under my slinky dress.. then I could see all the seams from the slip which completely defeated the objet. it is going back.

my local store only stocks clothes for old ladies. I tried to return it instore today but the first time there was a long queue and when I went back later there was no one at the order/customer service till so I still have it. I think I will have to travel up to Bluewater or Hemstead vally to take it back and choose soemthing else so a bit disappointed at the moment.

Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?
I chose to shop online because our local store stocks so little.. also they look a bit frumpy so prefere to buy online.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?
as I have said the availability for me size 12 was shocking with nearly everything out of stock. if it had been in stock there is pleanty of choice

PART 2

I then when to a larger store to return the slip.
Q1 the selection was fantastic with all sizes in all items
Q2 I would now say that shopping in store was much better than online I found what I wanted easily. I got the black waist cincher for £19.50
Q3 I was impressed with the choice when layed out in the shop. I think most people would choose black or nude so not sure it is necessary to have loads of options.
Q4 think they were a little expensive but as you would only wear them for a night out then they are worth the investment
Q5 I wasnt impressed with the seams showing in the slip which is why I returned it but am impressed with the waist sincher pants.. they hold in my muffin top beautifully!
Think I might need to get a pair of the normal knicker ones too.
Q6 I would recommend the item I have bought to friends. anything which holds in the muffin top when I go out in skinny jeans is worth recommending!

thanks for letting me be a tester

Q1. Have you bought Shapewear from M&S before? When you first started investigating the shapewear range as part of this product test, how easy or difficult was it to find out about the different types of garments available? Did you find what you had in mind?

I have bought shapewear before, some high waist pants about 6 years ago.
I found it very easy to fiind out what was available. i looked on-line and purchased instore. I bought different thing to what i originally had in mind, du to fitting issues (I have a short body). So, I wanted separate pants and waist cincher, to test if the cincher would 'roll' or if it would stay flat.
So, I bought
knickers 2 pairs, one white, one lilac
knickers similar to above, slighly different style, in black
waist cincherin black
Q2. Did you shop for shapewear in store or online, or both? Which method do you prefer for buying things like shapewear and why?

I researched online, but purchased instore, as it is very local, and i need to try certain things. I have ordered from m and s online before, however. It was easy, and delivery was prompt, though pricier than similar companies.

Q3. Do you think there is enough choice in terms of styles, shapes, sizes, colours etc or not? How was the stock availability when you did your shopping? Were you able to get what you wanted in your size or not?

In store had a good selection of styles and I was able to buy what i decided on in the colours and sizes i needed. i wanted a body, but having a short 'body' i found none fit right, and wrinkled, which defeats the object of being shapewear.

Q4. Do you think that the shapewear item(s) you bought were good value for money or not? Why?

The items i got are probably somewhere in the mid price range- some of the bodies i tried were quite expensive. The waist cincher probably won't get as much wear as the knockers, so would not be something I would have bought normally. The knickers are really comfortble and wash well. i could have bought cheaper knickers, but liked the colours and fit of the ones i chose.

Q5. How satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the shapewear item(s) you bought and why? Is there anything you were particularly impressed with? Or anything you were disappointed by?

I like the knickers. I went for separate cincher/pants as i have had hight waist knickersin the past and they 'roll' at the top. The separates when I wore then didn't do that.

Q6. Do you think there's anything M&S could do to improve the range? Do you think there are any items missing from it at the moment? If you were going to shop for shapewear again, which other retailers (if any!) would you consider buying from?

I would have like a long line bra- but the only option was an un-wired one, so it wouldn't have been supportive enough for me.

Q7. Lastly, if it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend M&S shapewear to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would, as reasonably priced, compared to spanx, for example. Also, the staff in store were very helpful, and helped find sizes i needed (and were patient whilst i tried on half the shop- and didn't buy itBlush

I tried the Ultimate Magic Body Define Waist Cincher in nude, and the Flatter-Me? High Rise Brazilian Light Shaping Knickers in black.

Q1.
Yes, I bought a vest a while ago, but haven't worn it much. I researched the range online and was impressed with the website and the extent of the range. I wanted something to hold my flabby tummy in place, and found it.

Q2.
I shopped online as I knew I wouldn't have the chance to go 'proper' shopping without my 2 year-old (and he hates M&S!) Because of my young son, I don't really get the chance to browse in-store, so I tend to buy online. I know M&S sizing and quality, so am prepared to take a punt.

Q3.
I'd like more colours - navy and red maybe - although I would probably stick to neutrals and black anyway. There were a few things I looked at that weren't in stock in my size (16), but there were also plenty of alternatives.

Q4.
I don't think I would have spent nearly £30 on a glorified pair of knickers, if it hadn't been for the trial. Yes, the items are good quality, but there are other stores that do similar items for far less. Having said that, I'm prepared to shell out if it's something that I'll get loads of wear out of and will actually do what it says. I've only had 2 days wear so far, so I'll let you know in 10 years time...

Q5.
The waist cincher is far more comfortable than I expected. The reviews on the website suggested it would be agony, but I wore it all day yesterday with no problems. The top stayed in place much to my surprise, although I think I may be a little bit allergic to the sticky stuff that makes it stay in place so well. Every other thing I've had like this in the past has rolled down, so a big result there. Only slight disappointment was that it didn't perform the miracle of giving me a completely flat stomach, but I can forgive M&S for that.

Q6.
More colours. Some of them do look rather 'orthopedic' (if that's the right word), so a bit more styling. Having read other's opinions, I'll probably go and have a look in Matalan and Primark for shapewear in the future.

Q7.
Yes, although the cost would prohibit many of my friends from purchasing it.
