We recieved Princess Celestia and it was recieved with much enthusiasm by dd's of 3,4&7.

Princess Celestia has become a firm favourite with not only dd3 and dd4 but also has been played with by a fair few of their friends when she was taken to preschool and played with in the playground when collecting dd's 1&2.
She has been played with as a princess pony, as the last unicorn after watching a film on netflixx, as a horse for barbies and Rapunzel as well as a styling pony. I'm surprised how much she has been played with to be honest and half the time it isn't the talking function that they are playing with.

My dd's love her hair and that they can brush it, unfortunately the hair clips were broken when heavy handed dd3 couldn't get them out of her mane. However that hasn't stopped them playing with her. They like her wings (she flies a lot in our house Shock )

My dd's do like MLP stuff in general, they have some of the older style ponies (which I think are much better looking!) as well as some of the smaller MLP playlets like the teapot.

My children do watch boomerang but we haven't seen this on there yet, probably as we never watch +1 and 3pm is school pick up time. I will remember to let them have a look though. We do have some of the old my little pony. Episodes on DVD which they enjoy.

My dd's would certainly recommend Princess Celestia but I personally much prefer the older style ponies, this one is too long and lean and looks alien like.

We have bought MLP as gifts in the past and will do again if the dd's ask for them.

Many thanks for letting us try this.

We had the Friendship Express train set. I have two daughters, aged 6 and 2. I suspect the eldest was slightly too old for it, and the younger slightly too young, but they both rather enjoyed it and played with it. It didn't hold their attention for very long, but I think if we bulked it out with lego houses, other ponies etc it would be a very good basis for longer play.

My older child went through a big My Little Pony phase, so she was particularly pleased with the pony and with loading up the train. The younger just loved the train element. The chunky size of the train made it good for her little fingers, though neither of the girls could put the track together without help.

They both enjoyed some fantasy play with it, talking about where the pony was going and all the fantasy friends she picked up on the way.

Neither has ever watched the TV series, as we don't have Boomerang.

Generally, I'm not a huge fan of pink plastic toys for little girls. However, I do have a soft spot for MLP - perhaps it's the retro element, or the focus on loyalty and friendship which I think is a strong message for little girls. So I wouldn't recommend it as such, but I'd happily tell anyone how much pleasure dd1 and I have got from MLP over the years, including this toy.

Yes, I would consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift.

Only negative comment is that it took me ages to find a screwdriver that would open the battery compartment - are my screwdrivers all unorthodox sizes?! Anyway, it was frustrating (for me and the girls) to get the toy and then spend so long hunting down a screwdriver and batteries.

But otherwise, I'm very happy with this. Thanks for letting us test it.

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is
Friendship Express train set. My daughter is 3.

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?
She was really excited. She was very much engaged in building the train track and arranging the carriage. But the initial excitement worn off quickly when she realized that there were no more carriages, and got bored. It has been sitting in a corner since.

What did your child think about it? What was good?
As I said she liked the train track, but thought it was too short. She also liked pinkie pie pony and was pestering me to get more carriages. As for the colour, she would have been just as excited had it not been pink.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?
She had watched adverts on TV and yes, she likes the products shown.

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?
No, never knew there was such a show. Would lookout for it now.

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?
I think I would, Seems like a reasonable priced product.

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?
Yes, it would make a good gift, especially for DD's friends who are into princesses and barbie dolls.

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is
Friendship express train set. DD is 4 next week, DS is 18 months

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?
I made the mistake of opening the package after we got in from a day at work/nursery. There was a lot of squabbling over it because of tiredness, but I have brought it out again at better times since then, and it always gets at least 15 minutes of play time. They did soon get bored of the items included, but would play for longer if we added figures from Happy Land etc.

What did your child think about it? What was good?
They liked that the train also ran when off the track, and they enjoyed turning it on and off using the funnel. My almost 4 year old got frustrated if the track came apart as she couldn't put it back together, and she sometimes had trouble lining up the wheels on the track.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?
They haven't really seem much of MLP, except when playing with my figures that are still kept at Grandma's house

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?
No, we aren't at home then

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?
I'm not sure I'd recommend as I think it's a bit stingy in the accessories included in the pack - especially when the box has a picture with a whole load of carriages/ponies that aren't included - my daughter asked why she didn't have all the pieces when she looked at the box. Also, the pony included was very small, which limited the playing with the pony on its own (which used to be my favourite pasttime) I know it's a train set, but it would have been nice to have a decent size pony to do hair etc.

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?
Possibly a larger pony, as I know I cherished my ponies when I was little

Any other comments
Just to say thank you for the opportunity to test this product - it has kept my kids amused for quite a few hours in total, which is invaluable to me!

Sorry for the delay leaving feedback.

First impressions:

Box not too horribly pink = Bearable.

Although a healthy enough amount to tell children this toy is NOT for boys = Predictable.

Toy not constrained by annoying multitude of plastic tie wraps = Very good.

Track easy to push together and very sturdy = Good.

Stickers to put on easily the most fun bit for my 4 ½ year old = Fun.

Train has a good mechanism for starting and stopping, another good bit of design = Excellent.

Pink pony hideous but that?s what it?s all about eh so unfair to complain (just my taste anyway, my 2 ½ year old loves it and takes it to bed with her) = As expected.

Play value:

Children delighted by novelty factor. How long will that last? Answer ? not long. The track is a perpetual loop so that is clever, but it is very short and only has 2 ways of fitting together. If extra track was sold to make more elaborate set ups it would help but the only add ons seem to be 2 more carriages and a huge array of pastel coloured horses.

After 10 minutes my older girl is putting objects under the track to try and make it more fun. It is more fun for a few minutes. Interest has been entirely lost after 2 days. My younger is officially too young to play with this toy for 3 to 6 year olds. I make her stop and she cries.

Verdict:

Another way to sell small plastic ponies to little girls who like cute things. My little one will be happy when she?s 3 and finally allowed to play with them. My older daughter had another valuable lesson in looking beyond image and evaluating for herself an object?s substance.

Anyway thankyou for the toy, please don't think I don't appreciate it. It really was fun going to the post office to pick up the parcel ? they were so excited.

Apologies for the delay leaving feedback, have had a few family things on and haven't had the chance to sit down properly to do it.

My username has changed since I signed up to the product test as I often do to preserve anonymity, I'm sure MNHQ know who I was in my previous life.

The name of the toy you were sent and age of child

We received Princess Celestia, my DD is five years old.

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy, how did your child play with it?

Excellent, Princess Celestia is a constant companion, I expected the novelty might have worn off, but it shows no signs of doing so.
She sits at the dinner table with us, watches television with dd (her favourite is Horrible Histories apparently), and is always taken to bed on a night where she sleeps on the bedside table.
She's involved in all of dd's imaginative play games and I hear her talking to her constantly.

What did your child think about it? Was it good?

As mentioned above DD was thrilled to receive her very own Princess Celestia, like many children she'd seen the advert for it and said she would like one. So to actually have her own has made her an extremely happy girl.

DD loved the removable pieces, tiara, necklace, hair slides etc and has spent many a happy hour brushing and styling the pony's hair.

She also loved the moving light up wings and the fact the pony speaks. DH and I did have a laugh when she was repeating the phrases and came out with "My breasts are so lovely". Having had a listen it is actually "my barrettes" think she'd misheard it being an American accent and she didn't actually know what a barrette was. Grin

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?

Yes she does, she already owns the hot air balloon nightlight and a few smaller ponies. She watches the television programme and will often choose the magazine if it has something in it that interests her.

Does your child watch the tv series

When we are home after school she will watch it, she enjoys it, likes the storylines and knows who the characters are.

Do you think you'd recommend this toy to another child/parent, why?

Overall I think I would. DD has, and continues to get an awful lot of pleasure from playing with it.
I definitely think that MLP have changed from when I was younger. They remind me a lot of the Bratz fashion dolls in style now, which I do not like generally. Very skinny and big eyes and long legged, they were a bit more wholesome and chubby back in the 80's. Princess Celestia does have a lot of eye make up on too, my DD likes this, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with her thinking about make up and looking 'fashionable' this young.

However from my child's pov it's pink, sparkly and girly. She can create wonderful adventures PC has even starred as a highwayman in one of her games, so it's not all glitter.

Would you consider buying a MLP product as a gift?

I have and I would. The smaller individual ponies are affordable, come with little extra accessories and make great gifts for the many parties DD is invited to. My DD and many of her friends love collecting so they make a fun, good quality gift that you know will be played with.

Any other comments

Many thanks for sending this product to us, I have a very happy daughter. PC is looking more than a little ragged round the edges compared to when she first arrived, but she is very loved and as a parent who doesn't rate a toy that is played with daily?!

Hello

Just wanted to come back and post an update after 2 weeks. Sadly the train set has been ignored apart from when DD2's friend came round and saw it. She was desperate to play with it but DD said "the track is too small and the train falls off, let's play dogs instead".

So sadly, as much as we appreciate you letting us try this toy, my children have given it a resounding thumbs down!

My daughter received the friendship express train. It was just ok, and I personally would not spend more than £10 on it. There wasn't much to it, and my daughter found it boring pretty quickly. She liked the little pony and putting it in and out of the carriage but wasn't that interested in the actual train track element. I think she would have got more out of just having three or four ponies to play with as opposed to just one. She is three.

Princess Celestia and I have 2 dd's aged 3 and 5

Overall opinion of the play value - how did child play with it
The children fought over it initially (as expected!) but did settle down to playing with it nicely together. They liked exploring the bits and pieces but these were soon lost as very small Sad
My two needed other things to play with it and didn't find it a complete toy in its own right. IT has now been pretty much ignored.

what did your child think about it - what was good
They thought it was very exciting to start with and loved the flashing wings and speaking.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally
Never had any MLP stuff before

does your child watch the TV series
No we do not get this channel

do you think you would recommend and why
Not as a standalone gift

would you consider buying My Little Pony goods as a gift
If the child liked MLP, but as above it would need to be making up a larger 'set'

Any other comments
I really, really didn't like the fact it said 'You can be my Best Friend'. We have had issues with DD2 and a group at preschool arguing over who is who's best friend. I really think at such young ages (that these are aimed at) that they should not be worrying about 'best friends'. I may be oversensitive at this moment, but i don't like this message to small children Sad

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is

My little pony friendship express train. DD is five and a half.

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?

DD was excited to get this and enjoyed setting it up but didn't play with it for very long before moving back to her old train track which she has had years and is very attached to. I think perhaps she is a little old for it.

What did your child think about it? What was good?

She liked putting it together. I thought it was nice and sturdy.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?

No. She has one but doesn't play with it. Other children who come to the house do though.

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?

No I don't think we have that channel.

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?

I would to a parent of a younger child, DD has always liked trains so I liked that this was a train for her interest and a toy I remembered but I think the track was too small for her.

Would you buy this as a gift? Possibly for a younger child.

Thanks for letting us test this!

Fashion Pony - Rainbow Dash
DD is 4

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play ?
I think the fashion pony would be enjoyed by a slightly older child. DD found it difficult to put on/ take off some of the accessories - hair clips and sunglasses and bangle.

What did your child think about it? What was good?
This toy was well liked and played with but DD did get frustrated that she couldn't 'do' much with it as the accessories were too footery.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?
Yes.

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?
No

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?
Yes, probably. It was fairly priced.

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?
Yes, they are fairly priced and have in stant appeal.

Too much Sellotape on the outside of the box. Inside packaging was frustration-free.

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?
I'm surprised to say she really does play with this. I'd never have picked it up tbh. SHe enjoys it.
What did your child think about it? What was good?
I think she loves loves loves the pony and enjoys most of the features. Our only fault is that it is hard to get the train running on the track - especially when you are 3
Does your child like My Little Pony generally?
Does now! We now have a few other bits and she is really pleased with them
Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?
God no! Can't bear the annoying voices/twee annimation so have...er...failed to tell her about the tv show
Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?
I might suggest the train, however I find the ponies a bit small and ugly tbh
Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?
Again, maybe the train but I feel there is something lacking with the ponies. Just so small and not remotely cute

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is
We were sent the fashion pony, DD is 3 and DS is 5
Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?
For the first week it was very much loved and dragged about everywhere. DD played with it using her ELC rose cottage farm. Unfortunately she has now lots interest along with all the little bits. The beloved 'pinkie pie' is now buried under rose cottage. Play value deteriorated very quickly.
What did your child think about it? What was good?
As above, love it but soon lost interest. She liked the little outfit it came with but got frustrated trying to put the clips in the hair. I would've been better if there were more clothes and a better brush.
Does your child like My Little Pony generally?
Yes

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is

The Train Set, she is 5.

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?

She loved it when it arrived and wanted to start collecting the other small ponies to go with it. However we put batteries in but they only worked for a few minutes. I think the toy was faulty as even when replaced new batteries only worked for a couple of minutes and then no more.

What did your child think about it? What was good?

She liked the pony that came with it more than the rest of the set, she found it easy to set up and really enjoyed playing with it, until the battery situation arose.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?

Not really on her radar but is now after getting this.

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?

No, didn't know it was on.

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?

Probably not, because it didn't work. If it had worked then yes.

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?

Probably not for above reason. Had it all worked properly I think we would have appreciated it a lot more as she was delighted with it when it arrived.

I'm sorry for the late review but I've been extremely busy and the review thread looked a bit daunting.

My boys aged 5 and 8 tried the princess celestial, older child didn't play with it at all. Younger child thought it was for his girl
Cousin. When I said it was for him, he played with it for 10 mins, galloping it on the table, and has never touched it since. I ended up Giving it to his cousin.

We tried the train set.
The girls are aged 6 + 4 years.
Overall play value was low. They were terribly excited when they unwrapped the package and saw what it was (they have seen it advertised on tv).
It as set up straight away and played with for about an hour. It was then tea and bedtime. unknown to me they had left it running, and not suprisingly the batteries ran out overnight. The next day they were eager to play again so batteries were reinserted, they played for an hour, got distracted by something else, and the batteries ran out. They seem to have lost interest in it now, even with the offer of new batteries.
Whilst they were playing they did have a lovely time in their imaginative world going on picnics and packing the carriage with various iems.
Intetest didn't last long (these are children who can play with a single toy all afternoon). The track being so short, and circular meant that once they had done it a few times they lost interest. A track that actually goes somewhere (bed to boocase or similar) would have had more play opportunities.
Loved the fact it was easy to get out of the box without hundreds of cabel ties.
Children love MLPony.
Have enjoyed watching it on dvd.
Would not reccomend to others.
Would buy other MLP as gifts but not this one.

Gleek has been having a little trouble posting, so here are her comments:

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is?

The My Little Pony Train set and my daughter is 4.

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?

Good toy, would have liked to have more track so that it could be made into different shaped tracks etc as once it's been played with a couple of times it did seem to become less interesting, I think it could be more versatile and therefore she would have spent more time on it. We also used lego and bricks to build bridges over the tracks.

What did your child think about it? What was good?

She liked the fact that it was a "girls" train set, she's going through quite a girly phase and has been asking for a girls train set for a while. She liked putting the track together and the fact the train went by itself.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?

No, not really on our radar before.

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?

No

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?

Possibly if it had option of buying more track or for a younger child who would be more interested in it as it is.

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?

Yes, for a younger child.

We had the Friendship Express train. My daughter is 4, my son is 2 and my youngest son is 7 months. There was a huge amount of excitement about the box and the opening of the box as my 4 year old is a big My little pony fan and her favourite role playing is pretending to be a pony! When she opened the box her and her 2 year old brother physically squabbled over the putting together of the track and assembling the train....it was all looking like they were set to burst with excitement. Sadly the toy held my daughter's interest for about 1 minute and despite numerous attempts to get her to play with it she is not interested. Even her 2 year brother was not interested. He put the track together and then
lost interest. My 7 month old quite likes chewing on on the carriages though. Not sure why but it really did not seem to capture any further excitement or indeed play from my children. Sorry to sound a bit negative!

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is - Friendship Express Train set DSD is 5, DD is 18m

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it? Its well worth the value, botyh girls play with it incessantly. We've been through three stes of batteries so far.

What did your child think about it? They both loved it.

What was good? brilliant, DD found it easy to use, DSD just loved the train set in general

Does your child like My Little Pony generally? Yes, they both do!

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm? No, we rarely watch boomerang, it's not really attractive to DD.

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Most definitely

Why? The toy is played with constantly by bot of them, it's showing no sign of wear, despite the amount of abuse DD is giving it, and even I've enjoyed playing with it (sh, don't tell anyone!)

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift? Yes, DSD has drawn up a list, and I think the expansion packs would be well worth it for the girls, can you get extra track for it?

Any other comments - great toy, packaging simple to dismantle, so the excitement factor is there. Batteries last well, and the toy is very hardwearing.

At first, E loved playing with it but it quickly got left on the side as without the train track there was limited appeal I feel. Also before long the carriage got amalgamated into other toy sets she has, if touched at all.

What did your child think about it? What was good?
When it first came, she was VERY excited - particularly by the pink, girlyness of it :-) However when she looked at the back it led her to expect the train track to be in the box too which took the shine off. She did play with it pretty regularly for the first couple of days but then barely touched it.
As a parent, I liked the ease of opening the packaging/ untying (particularly after a hideous Littlest Pet Shop experience at Christmas)

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?
She likes playing with her cousins when there but has never shown enough interest to warrant us buying her her own.

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?
No

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?
I think if they already had the train I might but otherwise no - it is also quite expensive at £13 I feel. The brand has strong nostalgia from my own childhood and I would like to see things like the grooming stables make a proper comeback.

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?
Not at this price but otherwise probably

The name of the toy you were sent and how old your child is:

We were sent vehicle assist. My DD is 3.

Your overall opinion of the play value of the toy - how did your child play with it?

My DD really liked the pony itself and the fact that it had a little vehicle to ride in. She likes to wheel the pony around. She calls the vehicle the pony's "bedroom".

What did your child think about it? What was good?

She likes playing with the pony and the vehicle and also plays with them separately. She likes to brush the mayne of the pony and likes to wheel the vehicle around.

Does your child like My Little Pony generally?

This is the first my little pony toy that my DD has had but she does like it.

Does your child watch the TV series "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" on Boomerang weekdays at 3pm and Boomerang+1 at 4pm?

No, I didn't know about the programme but she might like to watch it, especially since she has the toy and so will probably relate to the programme.

Do you think you'd recommend this toy/the My Little Pony Brand to another parent/child? Why?

I would - this is because the pony itself is nice with hair to brush etc and it looks pretty. The vehicle is also good to play with with the pony but also my DD uses it along with other toys so it is two in one really.

Would you consider buying a My Little Pony product as a gift?

Yes I would for the reasons above.
