Netflix, an internet subscription service to watch TV shows and films instantly, are looking for Mumsnetters to try their service out for one month and to give feedback on the service on MN. If you aren't familiar with Netflix here's what the folks there have to say: "Netflix has thousands of hours of tv and film to be enjoyed by all members of the family. We have recently introduced a Just For Kids section that allows children to watch tv in a safe and friendly environment."

They want 100 Mumsnetters with at least one child aged between 3 and 12 years to test the service for one month and give their feedback throughout this time. You can access Netflix via any device which has an internet connection - eg your phone, Wii, PS3, Xbox, Smart TV, PC, Mac, etc

The product test will involve you signing up for the free trial online. To do this you will need to visit signup.netflix.com/ and sign up for a month's free trial.
You will be required to fill in your credit card details to take part - but don't worry you wont have to pay anything. To unsubscribe at the end of the free trial, if you wish to do so, all you need to do is go to 'Your account and help' then click on 'cancel membership' and follow the instructions on that page. The monthly fee would be £5.99 by direct debit.

If you would like to take part please sign up here.

We will email those selected with the sign up details and a link to the feedback thread. Please note this test will start next week so please only apply if you are around then.

All those who add their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a 40" Samsung LED TV and a PS3.

If you are already an existing Netflix customer please also feel free to leave your feedback. All those who do add their comments will be entered into a separate prize draw to win a £100 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

And mumsnet, really? netflix?

Scraping the barrel, much? Shock

madwomanintheattic · 10/03/2012 22:21

Oh, I lied. All those who add their feedback will be put in the draw.

I bet ya can all take part, though.

I can't wait for the feedback thread.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/03/2012 23:51

The security settings on it are not that great.

I don't want my DC to watch Skins et al.

So the only way to stop them is to tick only stuff rated 12 and under.

But I want to watch slightly more mature content.

So I have to go back and uncheck that box, leaving it wide open? Hmm

Howabout setting up a password requirement if someone clicks a film/TV above a certain rating?

Well, I won't be forgetting to unsubscribe!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/03/2012 23:53

Oops. That appears to be my feedback before anyone is picked. Blush

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 11/03/2012 06:03

Just to add to my previous feedback I am now getting fed up of Max and Ruby, and a little scared that max has quite an evil look in his eye sometimes......

AnAirOfHope · 11/03/2012 10:35

With a sister like Ruby, who ignores his ideas and puts him down and bosses him about all the time, can you blame Max for his crazy eye look?

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 11/03/2012 11:38

mnhq the ad on the tv says its now £6 per month.....

tigercametotea · 11/03/2012 15:15

The link to sign up for the feedback thread doesn't work?? It just takes me right back to Mumsnet's main page.

Mousey84 · 11/03/2012 17:24

I signed up for the month trial today via quidco for £7 cashback if you watch 5 hours...will do free trial and a second month (so covering easter) and still come out a £1 up...cant be bad to that.

Ive browsed through and while a lot are old, I havent actually seen most of them, so it suits me fine. LoveFilm is worse by the looks of it...(free trial pays £18 on quidco, so worth a look?)

badpoet · 11/03/2012 18:50

Another one here already on the free trial (and forgot to go through Quidco too!)

But actually, we love it and I think we'll keep it. We are way behind on film/box set watching though, and we only have freeview channels, so there's loads there for us. Catching up with Misfits just now. It has been a godsend this last week with two kids off ill and in bed.

I was on the phone to BT today and they were trying to get me to take Vision - er, why would I pay more than twice as much for something I can only watch on my TV? Netflix lets us watch on every device we've got and last night the kids were streaming a movie while we watched our programme. I know the channels/choice isn't the same but as I said before, there's plenty to keep us entertained.

I completely agree stronger security would be better, please implement that Netflix. But apart from that the interface is a joy to use compared to Lovefilm which I cancelled last year.

(OK so I also appear to be giving my feedback)

boredandrestless · 11/03/2012 19:17

I will not sign up to anything that uses recurring payments via a card. If you could sign up using direct debit I'd jump at trialling it but no way am I handing over card details so a recurring payment can be set up.

Anyone who does not realise the difference between a standing order, a direct debit, and a recurring payment can find out more here:

StateofConfusion · 11/03/2012 20:18

I signed up to netfix a few days ago as we've not got sky for a week thanks to there horrendous customer services.

And a 3 and 4yo with no tv makes for a tough lifestyle.

I actually like it, the dcs love it too and happily browse the childrens section alone choose a program and let me actually cook in peace. They're under 5's though so yet to work out how to back up and access the whole of netflix.

I'll be staying with it I think :)

Lately, i am hearing so much about Netflix...I think they have definitely takesn the online world of streaming by a storm..But my personal favourite have to be Lovefilm. Got a FREE 30-day trial and with the moneyback that i got my first three months of membership are absolutely free. I love the fact that i have a hard copy of the movie i wish to see..I prefer it this way :)

KatieBMumsnet · 12/03/2012 11:17

Thanks to those who have already signed up - please remember if you want to be one of the official Mumsnet product testers please sign up via this link.

For those of you who are already Netflix customers, you can still leave your feedback and you will be entered into a separate prize draw for a £100 John Lewis voucher.

If you are selected to take part we will send you an email to let you know by 14th March.

Firawla · 12/03/2012 11:25

if we get selected to test it for mumsnet would we still be able to go via quidco when we do the signup for the trial?

moonmother · 12/03/2012 11:38

My dp signed up to netflix about 7 weeks ago, we love it and have carried on with it after the trial period.

We tried the love film trial too, but we couldn't actually watch any of the films- love film were no help so we cancelled. With lovefilm too, you can only watch a certain amount of films within each month, depending on your subscription price, whereas with Netflix you can watch as many as you want.

Netflix is new over here in the Uk but HUGE in the US, so if you like it it may be worth sticking with it, as they add have added new films/progs since we signed up and I'm sure as it grows they'll add more and more.

It's even got better by adding the kids one, in fact my 2 dc's are off school ill today, and tucked up on the sofa watching a film on there now Grin

KatieBMumsnet · 12/03/2012 12:17

Firawla - that's fine you can use quidco if you are selected by Mumsnet.

OP posts:
BartletForAmerica · 12/03/2012 17:27

No, thanks. I imagine an awful lot of us will be 'selected' as they hope many people will forget to cancel.

DilysPrice · 12/03/2012 18:39

Do you not have to watch your broadband monthly allowance quite carefully if you're going to binge on box sets online?

Seaholly · 12/03/2012 19:26

My names in the hat!!

Firawla · 12/03/2012 20:23

thanks katiebmumsnet!

helcrai · 12/03/2012 21:03

I think this is a great idea, better than the other sites where you sign up and get the discs thru the post (Tesco, Lovefilm etc) as I've sometimes had dodgy scratched discs or Roget to send them back. I agree that the range of films cud be better.

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 13/03/2012 12:36

Ok I've signed up too...was a bit reluctant as I'm nervous about remembering to cancel after a month.

Codandchops · 13/03/2012 13:13

I think Netflix will improve tbh, it was like when iTunes started selling films, initially there was hardly anything, now they are right on the ball with most stuff.

We are enjoying Netflix and DS specifically loves the Netflix for Kids stuff.
