Q1 What impression (if any) did you have of Tesco.com/groceries before you took part in this test? If you'd used the service before, how had you found it? If you hadn't tried it before, had you heard any feedback on it, either good or bad?
I've used the service before, and previously found it quite good. I'm quite a fussy fresh meat and fruit and veg shopper, and I've previously had stuff that's gone off in a couple of days, bruised fruit, bashed in peppers etc, so I've got out of the habit of shopping online, but I do find it useful, since I'm now working an extra day a week.
Q2 Now thinking about doing your test shop on Tesco.com/groceries, what were your initial impressions of how the site works? Did you find it easy to use or not? What did you like about it the most? And the least?
The site is very easy to use. Even if I hadn't used it before, I think I would find it easy to set up a first order. Having used it before, it was very easy to return. The thing I particularly like, and the thing that drives me mad in store, is the way that it is so easy to compare like for like produce, ie Heinz Beans in tins x 6, versus Heinz Beans in SnapPots (cost per kg). I spend ages in store trying not to be conned by "Buy 3 for £10", and then finding that buying separately I am actually paying less per kg for a product (fresh chicken breasts for example). This saves me more money, and is the primary reason for my shopping habits, and why I have bought at least half of my monthly shop at Aldi for the last twelve months or so.
I'll be honest though, I'm always wary of sell by dates. I'm a careful shopper (have I mentioned this
?) - and will always search for the freshest and most in date produce. I would like to be reassured that this happens by the pickers, but I can vouch for the fact that it doesn't happen in my local store, as I have seen them just grab the first packet to hand, whether or not it is the freshest.
The other thing which is slightly annoying/frustrating, is that I'm assuming that my shopping is picked from one of two stores near to my house. Now I know for a fact that certain specialist produces (gluten free crumpets, for example) are stocked in both these stores, yet are not available for me to purchase online. I'd be really interested to know why, as I live in a big city, and both branches are sizeable and carry most lines.
So I could never do 100% of my shop online, as I would always have to make a trip to a store to fill in the gaps. I'd be genuinely interested to have this answered by Tesco if that's possible.
Q3 How did you find the 'favourites' tool to use? Did you find it useful or not? Do you think it saved you time using this tool or not? If so, roughly how much time do you think it saved? If you don't think it saved you any time, why not?
The "favourites" tool is a good one. I do think it saves time, particularly if you do get into the habit of shopping online every week, there are many "staples" that you just buy without much thought, as you know you will need them. This is a useful memory jogger too.
Q4 If you've ever used any other online grocery delivery service, how does Tesco.com/groceries compare?
I never have used another grocery delivery service so I can't compare.
Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Tesco.com/groceries to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I would recommend Tesco.com/groceries to others, and in fact have done so in the past.
Q6 Do you think you'll use Tesco.com/groceries again in future? If so, why? If not, why not? Would you say this experience will make you do more grocery shopping online rather than in store or not? Why?
I was very pleased to be given this opportunity for a trial shop - and it has probably done what you expected it to - reminded me why I found it so useful in the past! Despite my comments upthread, I realise this exercise is solely to test the delivery service, which I found impeccable. The only slight potential problem, was that I was texted to say my shopping would arrive between 4.15pm and 5.15pm.
I was stuck in a traffic jam, and arrived home at 1 minute to four, followed closely on my heels by the delivery man! I wonder what would have happened if I had arrived home by 4.15pm and he'd arrived at 4pm.
Also, there were three replacements in my shopping, which were replacements for a handwash dispenser and were unique to the product. I was told these were out of stock, and had been replaced by a normal handwash dispenser - which were no use to me. Unfortunately, these are quite expensive items and, by removing them from my order, I ended up going under my £50 shop, and ended up paying more for my shopping than I had thought, because I was unable to use one of my £10 vouchers. However, DH has cautioned me against looking a gift horse in the mouth, so I will simply say thank you again for being able to participate in the exercise.
Will I continue to do all of my shopping online in future? Probably not, for the reasons outlined above, but it did remind me what a good service I have received, both yesterday and in previous deliveries. So thank you.
Crikey - this is a long post isn't it? But I wanted to be comprehensive, and fair. You can gloss over the boring bits.
