Dettol has asked us to find 100 Mumsnetters to give their No-Touch Hand Wash System a try. Here's what Dettol say about it: "The Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System is a great way to ensure kids adopt a healthy routine when it comes to washing their hands, whilst also making it fun to do. As hands come into contact with millions of germs every day, the automatic system can help break the chain of infection, stopping the spread of bacteria around the home. After sensing your hands, the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System dispenses just the right amount of soap, killing 99.9% of bacteria."

Dettol want to get feedback on what you and your child(ren) think of the system so this is open to all UK Mumsnetters with at least one child who is old enough to be able to let you know what they think of the product! Smile

If you are selected to take part, you'll be sent a Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System dispensing base (250ml), one refill (250ml) and 4 AA batteries (RRP £9.99). You'll then need to use the system for a week or so and then add your (and your child(ren)'s) feedback to the thread.

Everyone who is part of the test and who adds feedback to the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky winner will get a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

If you would like to take part in this project please add your details here.

Many thanks
MNHQ

It seems like the type of product that, if pitched on Dragons' Den, would be laughed off by the investors Confused

I do like the dettol brand and I do trust them.
I also wondered about the tap issue though, but hey.
My 2 boys are fine washing their hands and do it without me having to ask them more than once.
The thing is, as much as I love dettol, this isn't a product that I'd actively go and buy, but is always useful to try new things.

I wouldnt get it for the germ issue BUT my girls struggle with normal soap pumps, especially dd2 who has very poor joints, and this would save me loads fo stress :)

I can give feedback already without needing this trial.

I like it for my two year old to wash his hands, he finds the noise it makes funny and actually likes using it.

However this is the second one I've had, first one because of the sink and water, the batteries corroded and the pump stopped working. A lot of money for it to have gone wrong when I still had soap left.
Also, it dispenses too much soap, so again it's not cost effective.

This is the most poinless scaremongering product surely? As someone said earlier, it doesn't matter what gets on your hands as you dispense the soap as you are about to, er...wash them with the soap Confused If there's one place in the house I'd want all the germs to gather it would be on top of the soap dispenser!
Been waiting to rant about this for ages Grin

However i will concede that maybe a 'hands free' soap dispenser is a good for a child too small to use a pump one. However that is surel such a small market- my 2 year old copes fine and squirts soap all over the basin

I'd like to enter, but not in the UK.
I have been eyeing them up in our supermarket. They cost around 30 euros here though.
Our downstairs toilet has a dolls house sized sink so you can't put a bar of soap on it nor a bottle of liquid soap. That has to sit on the cistern and clumsyknickers DD inevitably knocks it down behind the cistern. At my advanced age it would save wear and tear on my knees.

Done.

For the novelty/gadget aspect of it more than anything.
I don't reckon it'll be any better or worse than 'normal' soaps tbh

This is just a gimmick surely?

Like the tongue brush that makes you gag when you try to use it and is effectively useless anyway since your tongue is coated with a bacteria killing coating that you are just brushing off.

I don't know if any of you realise this but if you have germs on the soap dispenser it doesn't really matter because you are washing your hands straight after! Who would touch the soap dispenser if they weren't washing their hands? It's just an excuse to charge the crap out of you for something that carries no purpose.

I like the latest evolution of the 'sticking chemicals to the inside of your toilet' line of products. First they completely invent the idea that it is a good thing to have little plastic cages of chemicals fixed in the toilet; then when that market is saturated they invent the new idea the the cages harbour germs so that they can sell us a plastic applicator that sticks a blodge of chemicals in the toilet without a little cage.

is the marketing team A that came up with hands-free dispensers.

I'm almost tempted to apply, just so that I can feedback to them the ridiculousness of this product. "Germy soap pump"??!!? Really? THAT'S what you you are trying to flog to us now?

Urgh. Use germy soap pump. Wash hands.

Hi, I would love to be included as my children make a lot of mess with regular dispensers and I think these are a good idea from that point not necessarily from the " re-infecting with germs from taps point". The question is should we have auto-taps at home too?

Report
leelo · 09/06/2011 18:18

i'd love to test it. my son is toiklet training and is fascinated by taps, flushing and plugs. this would make hand washing a novelty instead of a enforced hygiene issue.

We were given one as a gift when DD was born but didn't get along with it.

It dispenses way too much soap.

The soap was really thick, smelt too strong and left a residue (moisturising?) on our hands.

You have to hover you hand beneath it to wait for the soap for what feels like a really long time.

I kept setting it off when putting dishes on the side or when cooking.

It was a nice idea for a gift but not something we'd ever buy as we try to avoid perfumed and anti-bacterial products and unnecessary plastic.

'Dispenses way too much soap' is probably half the reason they want us to buy it. I only ever use a fraction of a single pumps-worth.
