NOW CLOSED Want to try a dishwasher for the first time? Or have one already that you'd like to replace? We're looking for 6 MNers to trial a new AEG dishwasher (with Finish tablets) and give video feedback

We have been asked by AEG and Finish to find six Mumsnetters who would be able and willing to have an AEG dishwasher (average selling price £600) installed in their home - and give feedback - both on Talk and on video - on what difference it's made having a dishwasher (or having a new one if they already had one).

Feedback will focus on overall impressions of the AEG dishwasher, what difference it makes to testers' day-to-day life, cleaning results, and how it compares (where appropriate) with an old dishwasher.

Naturally this product test isn't for everyone but AEG have this to say about it: "perhaps you've considered a dishwasher before but thought it's just a luxury, or that there's no space for one in your kitchen. AEG and Finish are confident your view might change if you try out an AEG dishwasher - the slimline 45cm dishwasher is the same size as a standard cupboard."

For anyone that already has a dishwasher, AEG are also looking for MNers that would consider replacing an old dishwasher. AEG say that their new dishwasher range "has enhanced features such as an extra-large load size, and [that] they are amongst the quietest, most efficient and unobtrusive on the market."

For those of you who may have environmental concerns about having a dishwasher, AEG have given us this statistic from a Waterwise survey - the average dishwasher uses between 12 and 16 litres (3-4.25 gallons) of water per load, while washing dishes by hand uses as much as 63 litres (16.5 gallons) per session. The new AEG Pro Clean uses just 9 litres of water.

There are a number of criteria for taking part in this project - to take part you must:

  • Live in the UK and be a home owner-occupier
  • Be willing to provide video feedback which may appear on MN and elsewhere (we will provide you with a video camera)
  • Be available at home for one weekday in the next 2-3 weeks (date to be arranged with AEG) for installation
  • Have space and plumbing for a dishwasher in your kitchen - click here for more information on what sort of site/space you need.

If you are selected to take part, the dishwasher will be delivered and installed free of charge (and your old dishwasher will be taken away if you want it to be). You will get to keep the new dishwasher once the product test is finished (average selling price for an AEG dishwasher is £600). You will also receive a two-month supply of Finish dishwasher tablets. All testers who give feedback - both on Mumsnet and by video - will receive a £40 voucher for Space NK. Please click here for more info about AEG dishwashers.

AEG are looking for specific types of families to test different types of dishwashers (e.g. larger families may need a larger load size, small kitchens may only have space for the slimline size) so in order to best match the dishwashers to testers, we need to ask quite a lot of questions, but most importantly we need to know that you have space for a dishwasher (if you don't have one already) so please make sure you answer the question about space when giving your details.

If you are interested in taking part please sign up here.

Thanks
MNHQ

It is the space question that gets me. How many people without a dishwasher just have a convenient dishwasher sized space with plumbing in their kitchen? Plus can we clarify the plumbing? Does it mean all teh bits and bobs in place as though there has been a dishwasher before or just that there are waterpipes in the general area?

Debating entering, would have to remove a cupboard but it is just he cleaning stuff so could be rehomed in the bathroom, it is next to the washing machine so there is water just not sure how one goes about making that isn't plumbing for a dishhwasher. I would adore a dishwasher, especailly in the summer when we tend not to have hot water (heated by fire) so have to boil the kettle to do it.

withagoat · 16/03/2011 16:09

im not going on a bloody video

geordieminx · 16/03/2011 16:19

Have entered. Our dishwasher is dead, it's just sitting there tacking up space, laughing at me.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2011 16:28

I really, really want one, I'll hold my breath, I really will Grin

NotShortImFunSized · 16/03/2011 16:30

AtYourCervix · 16/03/2011 16:41

Any chance I could get a washing machine instead? mine died painfully this morning Sad

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 16/03/2011 16:46

Indith - here are the guidelines AEG have given us for installation - HTH

You must:

  • have easy access to a working water connection, an independent waste outlet and an electricity source within 1 metre of the installation area
  • have stop valves that are working correctly
  • not require any carpentry work to install your new dishwasher

Wow ! NewGirlHelen, you really know how to make friends quickly in a new job don't you !

This is going to make 6 MN'ers very happy !

It makes me happy to think of them not having to wash up so much too. I love our dishwasher !

ineedagoodsolicitor · 16/03/2011 17:04

Look ladies just rip out a cupboard, get a plumber in quick to sort pipes and drainage. You won't regret having a D/W if you haven't already got one !

He who hesitates and all that.

It's a free diswasher....... think of all the arguments saved over washing up.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 16/03/2011 17:18

after i pressed submit it just went back to the mumsnet homepage - is that correct?

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 16/03/2011 17:24

Librashavinganotherbicuit - yes, that's correct!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 16/03/2011 19:13

I live in a new build which already has space and plumbing for a dishwasher but we never bothered getting one. However have been thinking it would be nice to have one but worry about costs etc.

smokinaces · 16/03/2011 19:30

Done. Though if I got picked do you think it would be cheeky to not let them take my old old old one, but sell it on instead?! (optimistic me!!)

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 16/03/2011 19:31

LadyOfTheManor - we'll be selecting testers early next week

I know by selecting testers you secretly mean "picking winners". And that's fine. Thank you Grin
