Rowse have asked us to find 50 Mumsnetters to try out their honey with their children and give us your feedback. They want to find out why mums do or don't buy honey and how they might include it in their family's everyday diet.

We're looking for testers who live in the UK and have at least one child over the age of 1 (honey isn't recommended for children under 1). For more information on Rowse honey, please visit their website here.

If selected you will be sent a 250g jar of Rowse honey to use in your family's day-to-day diet over the next couple of weeks. You'll then be asked to add your views on a thread on Mumsnet.

Everyone who tries the products and adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win one of five hampers worth £100 each, kitted out with a lovely set of Rowse branded crockery and picnic blanket.

If you're interested in taking part and you meet the above criteria, please sign up here. We're looking to recruit all 50 testers by this Friday (12th Feb) so please sign up as soon as you can.

Thanks

Mine arrived too - I've just had some on toast. It was a job to open the jar though - very tight!!

Do we start putting feed back here? Or do we await instructions?

I got mine and immediately compared it to waitrose own brand honey and surprise to me the rowse is actually way better. I don't know why it is such a shock!

PositiveAttitude · 20/02/2011 14:52

Oh yes, another one for the honey fudge recipe, please, GoodnightNobody.

GoodnightNobody · 20/02/2011 18:56

of course, here's the recipe courtesy of HFW.

It's easy to make and is such a delicious sweet. The honey giving it added depth and richness.

Mine was a bit crap, I basically didn't give it enough of a beating in the cooling down stage, you really need to put your back into stirring it- that gives it the grainy yumminess I think.

you will need:

Honey 4 heaped tablespoons
granulated sugar: 1kg
Evaporated milk 410g tin
water 100ml (I think this was a bit much as my fudge was not thick enough- try 50-70ml)
pinch of salt
butter 100g
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

greased baking tin- I used a brownie tray.

  1. put sugar, evap milk & water into a deep, large saucepan. The mixture should be no more than a 1/3rd of the way up the pan at this stage as the mixture will bubble up alarmingly when boiling.
on a low heat stir until sugar disolved.

Stir in salt & honey.

  1. place sugar themometer into the pan and raise the heat to bring to boil, stir regularly to ensure mix doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.
When temp reaches 116 0C (takes about 5 mins) turn off and allow to cool for a few minutes.
  1. cube your butter into approx 6 pieces and add, butter will melt into mix with stirring. At this stage stir like a mad thing with wooden spoon. Stir until cooling mixture becomes grainy- you will see the change from a glossy mix to a cloudy, grainy one.
  1. Once grainy and thick pour into your tin.

mark off into cubes with knife before set.

Enjoy.

nymphadora · 20/02/2011 19:38

Mine hasn't arrived yet :(

GoodnightNobody · 20/02/2011 19:55

maybe will come on Monday? Mine came Saturday am, perhaps yours will come beginning of week?

TheNewStig · 20/02/2011 20:31

Mine arrived on Sat. Postmark was only Fri so fingers crossed yours arrives on Mon nymph

My initial disappointment is that it's a jar and not a squeezy bottle. I've been using their 600g bottles and I'm not looking forward to the mess DS will get into trying to dollop it on with a spoon. Blush Haven't yet compared this non-specific mix to their Acacia I've most recently had.

nymphadora · 20/02/2011 20:34

Fingers crossed

nymphadora · 21/02/2011 17:15

Got it! dh wants to know what he has to moan about do now?

EdgarAleNPie · 22/02/2011 10:24

i love honey.

DD now loves it too

is that recipe for honey fudge ?

slavers

GoodnightNobody · 22/02/2011 21:35

Yep- recipe for honey fudge above.

My girls and I were buzzing (poor bee pun)from the sugar rush.

onadifferentplanettoday · 23/02/2011 11:17

We have ours but it's nearly all gone already,I think the rather yummy honey and peanut butter bars we made are to blame. Think we may have overdosed on the sugar too none of us could sleep last night!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 24/02/2011 10:04

Ours is nearly all gone too! :o
