Firstly Asda have asked us to say - to those of you who were affected by a delay in receiving uniform: "We are extremely sorry about the delays some of you have been experiencing and we hope that the uniform is worth the wait". If you are still missing any items please can you email [email protected] and we will pass the details on to Asda asap

Good news:) Orginally we were going to ask for you to add three lots of feedback but due to the delays we're now only going to ask you to add feedback once. Everyone who adds their feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £200 Asda voucher.

Please answer the questions below. Do feel free to add other comments too.

Please state the age and gender of your child in replying and if possible the item you are referring to.

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform?
Q2 Did it fit your child? If applicable were you able to adjust it to fit your child?
Q3 What did your child think of their new uniform?
Q4 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing?
Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to being worn? How would you rate the quality?
Q6 How would you rate the value for money of the uniform?

DramaInPyjamas · 15/10/2010 21:47

Q1. Looked fine, no problems. Cardigan is the exact colour we need so was happy with that. Only recieved the cardigan and the blouses though, still waiting on the pinafore and the polo shirts.

Q2. Fitted perfectly.

Q3. She wasn't to chuffed to be honest! She wanted to know why Asda didn't send her the 'Wizards Of Waverly Place' collection to try out! Ungrateful wee so-and-so!

Q4. Still going strong. Still looks quite newish.

Q5. See Q4. Full marks, I really don't have any grumbles at all with anything.

Q6. £4 for the cardigan and £2 for 2 polo shirts. Cheaper than some of the stuff we bought during the summer for starting school, and lasting just as well.

Q7. Don't see why I wouldn't recommend, if it's what they are looking for then I would mention to try it out.

Q8. Haven't bought uniform items from any supermarkets other than Asda before, so can't answer.

I received 2 white shirts age 14-15, 1 pair of black trousers age 14-15 and one black jumper age 13-14 for my 14 year old son.

Q1 The trouserfarbric is of good quality. The belt looked cheap and tacky. the shirts are thin but good price, the jumper was also thin but quality seemed fine.

Q2 Trousers are very large around the waist for my son and although adjustable there was a lot of bunching of material. The belt supplied was very stiff and hard to put through the buckle. Length of trousers and fit of shirts and jumper is good.

Q3 Son really liked the jumper which is thin enough to fit comfortably under his blazer but is warm and not bulky when stuffed his school bag.
He doesn't like the belt and hasn't used it. He likes the trousers despite the bunching around his waist.
He prefers his usual shirts M&S as he feels the shirts are a little see through.

Q4 All the uniform washes very well. No bobbling yet on jumper. Jumper retains it shape and no shrinkage. Trousers wash and dry well and require quick press qith the iron. Shirts have washed well so far but I do feel in the long run the white will grey due to the thin material.

Q5 Jumper excellent, can't fault it, been worn every school day for weeks.
Trousers good quality except for belt, no sign of kneeing or fading.
Shirts quality ok.

Q6 The jumper is excellent value for money. The shirts are good value but I would pay more for thicker fabric.
Trousers very good value around £5 a pair cheaper than I usually pay and with no noticeable differnce in fabric quality. Belt very poor quality and I think cheapens the look of the trousers.

Q7 I would certainly recommend the jumpers and trousers. I don't live very near an ASDA but would pick up some uniform if I went to one.

Q8 I have bought some Tesco trousers for one of my other children but they have not been worn yet!

Additional comments, I have four children and tend to hand white shirts( the only piece of uniforn they have in common due to being at differnt schools) down so quality of the hsirts really matters to me. I think if i had just one child i would be happy with the ASDA shirts.

AnnMumsnet · 16/10/2010 14:21

Wallace - think it will be awhile yet, will let you know. Ann

AnnMumsnet · 16/10/2010 14:27

DramaInPyjamas - it was either a shirt or a polo top - to choose. I will chase the pinafore though for you

TequilaMockinBird · 16/10/2010 22:37

DD is 12 and we received cardigan, trousers and polo shirts.

Q1 First impressions were that the quality was very good, I loved the cardigan especially - very well made!
Q2 Polo Shirts and cardigan fit well but wont last her that long as there wasnt much room for growth. The trousers were too short, even though I ordered the size which I would usually buy - maybe they are short fitting?
Q3 DD absolutely loves the cardigan, and prefers wearing it outside of school! Infact I think she'd sleep in it if I let her Grin. The trousers were too short as per previous question and she thought the polo shirts were ok.
Q4 All of the items have washed well, the cardigan doesnt need much ironing either which is a bonus!
Q5 Polo shirts are fine and seem very hardwearing. As previously mentioned, DD wears the cardigan all the time and it still looks fab!
Q6 Very good value for money, cant believe how cheap they were!
Q7 Yes, definitely.
Q8 Value for money wise I'd say Asda is much better than the Sainsbury's uniform which I have previously bought

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/10/2010 22:01

I received two polo shirts and two pairs of trousers (non adjustable) aged 6-7 for nearly 7 year old DS. No jumper sent (not sure if the extra trousers and polo shirts were a replacement?)

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform?

Bit annoyed as I had asked for adjustable waist trousers as DS is skinny and got non adjustable ones. He tried them on but they would have fallen down I think Grin. Polo shirts were fine

Q2 Did it fit your child? If applicable were you able to adjust it to fit your child?

See above. Trousers were too big (also slightly long which as DS is average height was a bit surprising). Polo shirts were fine. Non-adjustable trousers.

Q3 What did your child think of their new uniform?

He was a bit disappointed that the trousers didn't fit.

Q4 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing?

Only washed the polo shirts due to non fitting trousers. They have been doing fine so far.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to being worn? How would you rate the quality?

Polo shirt is fine - has stayed white.

Q6 How would you rate the value for money of the uniform?

Value for money seems OK although was really hoping to be able to test trousers.

Q7 Would you buy uniform from Asda again? Would you recommend to someone else?

I probably would - when DS next goes through the knees of trousers I may try Asda. Although his current Sainsburys ones have been lasting well. Have had polo shirts from there before and they have lasted.

Q8 How would you say the Asda uniform compares to other supermarket uniforms?

Seems pretty similar to Sainsburys and Tesco (am supermarket tart).

On the email it did say to email insight@mumsnet if anything was missing - I have done that about the trousers but not heard anything. Am not desperate for adjustable waist trousers but would have been nice to have been given the item I selected.

AnnMumsnet · 17/10/2010 23:08

I've compiled a list of missing items - did get your email Noah, thanks - and will forward on to Asda tomorrow. Will update when I know more.

aristocat · 17/10/2010 23:12

thanks Ann Smile

NoahAndTheWhale · 18/10/2010 09:40

Thank you Ann :)

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/10/2010 13:34

I received 2 polo tops (white) and a pair of trousers for my 4 year old DS.

(Have e-mailed the address at the top of the thread about the missing things)

Q1What were your first impressions of the uniform?
The trousers are aged 5-6 and much too long for my DS. I was impressed that they were Teflon coated though (especilly for the price), but disappointed that they did not have an adjustable waist.
The polo tops are great - the buttons are well spaced so DS can manage them (his M+S ones have a button really close to the bottom of the opening that he can't do!)

Q2 Did it fit your child? If applicable were you able to adjust it to fit your child?
The tops are a great fit, but the trousers are much much too long and I've not had time to turn the hem up. Adjustable waist would be good on the trousers too.

Q3 What did your child think of their new uniform?
He was quite happy with the tops and is now worried that he's too short because of the trousers!!

Q4 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing?
The tops seem fine so far - only had them 2 weeks though! Not washed the trousers as they're too big

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to being worn? How would you rate the quality?
The quality seems good, but 2 weeks isn't enough to comment on the overall durability.

Q6 How would you rate the value for money of the uniform?
Excellent

Q7 Would you buy uniform from Asda again? Would you recommend to someone else?
Yes, and I would recommend to others too.

Q8 How would you say the Asda uniform compares to other supermarket uniforms?
On a par with Tesco, I've not bought uniform from any other supermarkets.

TitsalinaBumPumpkin · 18/10/2010 14:04

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform?

It all looked a good size and the colours were bright, i loved the feel of the Jumper and the Trousers seemed to be good quality.

Q2 Did it fit your child? If applicable were you able to adjust it to fit your child?

I asked for adjustable waist but got non adjustable so they were a little on the large side for my skinny DS, everything else fitted perfectly.

Q3 What did your child think of their new uniform?

DS liked that the jumpers were thin so he could still wear his school fleece Jacket over the top and not get hot.

Q4 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing?

Its bearing up very well it still looks new after 3-4 washes.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to being worn? How would you rate the quality?

Its bearing up well, the Polo SHirt is holidng up well to DS's constant collar fiddling and the Trousers are doing well to copw with the knee sliding during football.

Q6 How would you rate the value for money of the uniform?

Excellent. Smile

Q7 Would you buy uniform from Asda again? Would you recommend to someone else?

Yes its great for essentials and topping up during the year as it is cheap but lasts well.

Q8 How would you say the Asda uniform compares to other supermarket uniforms?

Its really good, i founf Tesco Polo shirts shrunk which Asda's ones havent.

Thanks for letting us be part of the trial. Smile

Deemented · 19/10/2010 07:47

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform?

jumper - Looked lovely, really smart. Not very thick though.

trousers - Again very smart, but hook and clasp fastening and DS isn't that co-ordinated yet.

polo shirts - Brilliant - just the colour red of his uniform.

Q2 Did it fit your child? If applicable were you able to adjust it to fit your child?

jumper - Yes, it fitted him lovely.

trousers - No, he's a very thin but tall six year old and the six to seven trousers were a big big on the waist and i was unable to adjust them. He had to wear a belt with them.

polo shirts Yes, they fitted well.

Q3 What did your child think of their new uniform?

jumper - He wasn't all that impressed as it didn't have the school logo on it.

trousers - Again, not all that impressed as he finds the hook and clasp fastening a bit fiddly.

polo shirts - He liked these a lot as there was less buttons to do up!

Q4 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing?

jumper - Not very well at all. Washed it for the first time and despite following the care instructions to the letter, it washed terribly.

trousers - They ae washing up well - am very impressed.

polo shirts - Again washing up very well. They seem to be keepng their colour well and holding their shape.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to being worn? How would you rate the quality?

jumper - Not very impressed, to be honest. Didn't last the first wash well, the thin material to begin with feels even thinner and almost threadbare.

trousers - These are holding up surprisingly well. DS is very heavy on them, especially on the kness and these aren't freying or loosing colour like others he has. Would buy more of these!

polo shirts - Agian holding up very well. These are washed several times a week and wash well, they hold their shape and keep their colour and don't fade at all. We like these!

Q6 How would you rate the value for money of the uniform?

Overall i would rate the uniform as very good value for money - though i'd think twice about buying the school jumpers.

Q7 Would you buy uniform from Asda again? Would you recommend to someone else?

Yes, i would definately buy uniform from Asda again, especially the trousers and certainly the polo shirts. Yes, i'd reccomend them to others, happily.

Q8 How would you say the Asda uniform compares to other supermarket uniforms?

The jumpers aren't as good quality as say, Tesco or Sainsburys, but the trousers and the polo shirts especially would beat the others hands down.

Thanks for letting us test these products Smile

Mumsnet, are you going to collate all these results? I'm really interested in the consensus opinion, but its too much to read now!! It was all looking a bit bad, but there's some positives in there too.

the cardi and shirts are washing really well, they have been tumble dried too and still look good.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to being worn? How would you rate the quality?

It seems to be be fine being worn, she only wears things once then i wash them as she is messy (food, paint, pen etc) it still looks new, the quality is excellent. (not wore the pinafore yet)

Hi testers
I have passed on the details of the missing uniforms reported here and via email and spoke with Asda today. They are trying to sort out the missing items. Hopefully they (or their nearest replacement) will be on the way to you shortly

Jaquelinehyde · 25/10/2010 20:13

I requested a black pinafore dress, white polo shirts and a red cardigan for my 5yr old DD.

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform?

The polo shirts were a good size and of the standard design. They felt a little harsher against the skin than dd's other polos'

The pinafore dress was a lovely design, dd was especially excited by the zip. However, the colour was of very poor quality. In fact more navy blue than black so DD hasn't been able to wear it.

The cardigan was lovely, I was very, very pleased with this. A really bright red, the material felt soft and warm and the style was lovely.

Q2 Did it fit your child? If applicable were you able to adjust it to it your child?

The polo shirts were a little long but for wear under a pinafore dress this is fine.

I tried the pinafore on DD and it fitted well.

The cardigan was a perfect fit.

Q3 What did your child think of their new uniform?

No comment on the polo shirts just the same as all the other ones.

Loved the pinafore dress and very upset she can't wear it too school.

Loved the cardigan.

Q4 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to washing?

Pinafore has never been washed as not worn.

Polo shirts fine, no change.

Cardigan fine no change.

Q5 How do you feel the uniform is bearing up to being worn? How would you rate the quality?

No problems with quality of any items. The polos are a little scratchier than other polos but wear and tear is equal. The cardigan looks brand new still.

Q6 How would you rate the value for money of the uniform?

Value for money is very good especially with the cardigan and pinafore.

Q7 Would you buy uniform from Asda again? Would you recommend to someone else?

Yes I would buy school clothes from ASDA, not the polo shirts, these would still come from M&S. But if their jumpers, trousers etc are similar to their cardigans and pinafores (if colour issues are corrected) I would be very happy to buy myself and recommend.

Q8 How would you say the Asda uniform compares to other supermarket uniforms?

The polo shirts in my opinion are a poorer quality to M&S polos. However, I think the quality of M&S polos are pretty hard to beat by anyone.

The rest of the uniform certainly challenges all other supermarket uniforms and I am now a huge fan of ASDA cardigans. They beat all other cardigans I have seen in supermarkets.

tibni · 27/10/2010 17:41

Still received no uniform at all - certainly would never order anything from ASDA, very disapointing level of service.

GallumDrawnAndQuartered · 03/11/2010 11:25

I just recieved a pleated skirt which hadn't arrived at the same time as the other stuff. There's a really nice polite card in with it apologising for the delay and the fact they haven't thr right size so have sent the size up.

It looks relly nice and just the sort of thing DD likes so hopefully it'll fit her. Or she can grow into it.

Also cardi and shirt still going well. nice quality and has washed well.

Thanks.

ps. tis I EccentricaGallmbits in Bonfire night guise!

GallumDrawnAndQuartered · 03/11/2010 15:59

Skirt is indeed too big. Do you want it returned

AnnMumsnet · 05/11/2010 10:22

Hi gallum...keep it for when it does fit.

GallumDrawnAndQuartered · 05/11/2010 22:57

Great - Thanks.
