Hello. As you probably already know, Ford recently asked Mumsnetters to test their new cars - and they've told us how delighted they were with your informed and enthusiastic comments.

So delighted, in fact, that now they want your opinion on Ford Econo Check technology, a new service that shows you how to optimise your driving and potentially save you up to 25% on fuel.

If you'd like to throw your hat into the ring to be one of the 10 Mumsnet reviewers Ford is looking for, you'll need to:

  • Drive a Ford registered from 1998 or later (click here for list of excluded vehicles)

  • Be able to have a data logger fitted to your car

  • Agree to add your feedback to a thread on Mumsnet

If you are chosen as a reviewer, you will receive a personalised in-depth analysis of your driving style and suggestions on how to drive more efficiently. After this, you will be offered a free 90-minute Econo Driver Training Course (worth £80), as well as an optional additional Econo Check to see how much your improved driving style is saving you at the fuel pump.

All selected reviewers will also receive a £50 John Lewis voucher and a £15 money-off voucher for their next service at a Ford Dealer.

To sign up, add your details here as soon as possible.

You can read full details of the project here

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask them on this thread

Thank you, MNHQ

craftynclothy · 25/09/2010 15:22

bosch · 01/10/2010 16:21

Have just arranged to have the econo check fitted to my car next Friday. Am v excited (I'm easily pleased!) Thanks MN! (and Ford!)

craftynclothy · 06/10/2010 18:57

Got mine fit today. Took 2 hours rather than the 20 minutes they said but they did repair a slow puncture for free in that time Smile.

The lovely receptionists deserve a medal too, seeing as dd1 decided to sing nursery rhymes for most of the time and then they both demanded biscuits after eagle-eyed dd2 saw a custard cream on the desk Blush

Wigeon · 06/10/2010 20:43

I've been picked too! Chip due to be fitted tomorrow.

gingercat12 · 08/10/2010 14:01

I've been called yesterday, and will have it fitted soon.

I had some bust ups with this Ford dealer in the past, so was very impressed when they said they would pick the car up, have a look at it, fit the device and bring it back. And would I mind if they cleaned it and hoovered it? Absolutely not. Can't wait Grin

Eddas · 09/10/2010 15:20

I had mine fitted yesterday, they didn't clean the inside AngryGrin They did however tell me I have a couple of things to fix. Which I suppose is good but they'll have to wait, can't afford them right now Sad

Taking it back a week on monday to have it removedSmile

bosch · 18/10/2010 21:47

Have done the test and had econocheck removed, just waiting for results (tried really hard not to hold it on the clutch all week....)

gingercat12 · 19/10/2010 12:11

Just had mine fitted. Car is clean and shiny. DH thinks it was worth participating just for that. What does that say about our car and us ?! Blush

Nice and brave man gave me advice on repairs needed. New tyres. Ouch. Can't start the winter with no grip on the road though.

bosch I cannot keep my foot off the clutch either Blush

bosch · 20/10/2010 18:46

Ginger - funnily enough I was advised that I need a couple of new tyres as well, although no quite yet.

Dh will keep an eye on the tread for me (am dreadful girly when it comes to car maintenance. Ran out of petrol in old car several times!)

Concordia · 20/10/2010 20:45

woo they cleaned my car when i had it fitted, it was definitely worth it for that.
they also advised me my tyres needed changing soonish?! cannot afford ford prices for that though! to have my wipers changed at last service would have been over £60!!!
the garage were great though, very polite and collected and brought back car when they said they would.
have had my feedback. generally not too bad. will there be a differnt thread to post this? or shall i post it here?
also it had a voucher code for something to do with bp fuel cashback but i've no idea what this is.
hope we still get the 50pounds john lewis voucher, we are feeling really tight for money so can't really afford stuff for house so hoping to spend it on food (in waitrose or ocado) one week.

bosch · 20/10/2010 22:12

Is it not suspicious that all the ford garages to date (to be fair only a sample of three mners) have diagnosed dodgy tyres? just a thought. I don't normally use dealerships. I wonder why.....

Eddas · 20/10/2010 22:54

would like to add they mentioned 2 of my tyres too!!! One was the spareHmm apparently that is low but presumably the spare is ok to be low, being the spare n all that!!! I also had a frayed something or other and a weepy power steering something, note weepy not leaking.

AnnMumsnet · 21/10/2010 10:53

Hello econo check testers...we should have the feedback thread up and running very soon - will email you a link. Ann

AnnMumsnet · 21/10/2010 12:21

Just started it here

AnnMumsnet · 22/10/2010 11:22

We noticed a few of you had mentioned that the Ford dealer had made recommendations about your tyres - we asked Ford about this and this is what they say: -

"Tyres are one of the most important safety items on a car. They are the only part of your vehicle touching the road and they brake, they steer and they grip. One in four vehicles out there have a dangerous or illegal tyre fitted and the stopping distances increase significantly the lower the tread depth. In fact, according to Continental, in some conditions a tread depth of just 3mm can increase braking distance by up to 70%. The police in the UK change their tyres at 3mm as a matter of routine, for safety reasons. Illegal tyres (1.6mm or less) can result in a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points"

Hope that helps reassure you - any problems at all please email [email protected]
