What do you think to a live webchat with someone from the SNP?

Hello.

The SNP have contacted us, asking if Mumsnet would be interested in hosting a live webchat with a senior figure from the SNP.

We know there are plenty of Scottish MNers out there - how does this idea tickle your political fancy?

And what do those of you who aren't in Scotland think?

Yes, I'd be up for that, absolutely. We are part of the UK, we have our own Parliament, why not?

I'd hazard (maybe wrongly) that it might not be of as much of an interest to English, Welsh or Irish MNers but it would be nice for the Scottish ladies to have the chance to ask some questions that are relevant to where we live.

HelenMumsnet · 13/01/2010 13:52

Thanks Squeezy - bumping for anyone else...

As a Scottish (British)mumsnetter ...

it says it all that the SNP are always pitching up asking to be invited to something. They may (sadly) hold the balance of power in the Scottish Government but that's more an indictment of the mainstream parties than proactive support for the SNP - they have sneaked through as the beneficiaries of protest voting and I sincerely hope that there is a much stronger presence at the GE of the British parties, taking the devolutionary concept seriously and (if necessary) taking an alternative stance from their Westminster colleagues so we no longer have to suffer at the hands of Alex Salmond and his crew.

There are things I would ask, rotten fruit that I would like to throw but I don't think they should be given the oxygen of publicity.

missorinoco · 13/01/2010 14:18

I'm not Scottish, but if a political party is interested on coming on, and there is sufficient interest to have a web chat, then definately.

(Starts thinking except for Nick Griffin....)

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 13/01/2010 14:24

It is not fair to say they have sneaked through as the beneficiaries of protest voting, I don't believe that to be true at all. A statement like that is patronising to anyone who knows what they stand for and supports them on that basis.

I believe all parties should have the oxygen of publicity, it is the only way that we can decide where our vote is going when the time comes.

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 13/01/2010 15:57

Bump.

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 13/01/2010 19:06

Shameless bumperoo.

AgentProvocateur · 13/01/2010 19:45

Yeah, I'd love a live webchat with the SNP. I didn't vote for them last time, but I think they've been good (although I agree that there is a lack of credible opposition now).

Who are they offering? Can we get Nicola Sturgeon?

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 13/01/2010 20:20

.

tvaerialmagpiebin · 13/01/2010 20:22

I'm not Scottish but I am always interested to hear politicians favourite biscuits views.

Could we have someone from the Green party too?
and Plaid Cymru?

(am Welsh)

sammac · 13/01/2010 20:23

Oh please- I'd like to find out when they are going to keep all the promises they made dor our schools- smaller class sizes, more teachers blah blah They'll come up with the normal excuses

hannahsaunt · 13/01/2010 20:25

Yes to the Greens - much more mainstream and less single issue than the SNP.

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 13/01/2010 20:26

Oh, I'd love to see the Green Party on. I know nothing about Welsh politics but would love to see them on too for that reason.

The littler parties should be able to say they've done battle with MN too huh?

weegiemum · 13/01/2010 20:27

I'd love to hear from them if the whole webchat would not be hannah's views.

I have voted for them - maybe yes as a protest vote but as the labout alt was rubbish! - and woudl like to hear more!

what was the Trident question stewiegriffinsmom?

GentleOtter · 13/01/2010 20:34

You would need a lot of biscuits to keep Alex Salmond sated.

Pete Wishart would be good but not Roseanna Cunningham. Which MP/MSP was thinking about speaking on MN?

fishie · 13/01/2010 20:34

i am not in scotland. would like to think i'd be interested in a snp webchat. or a welsh one. (not in wales either).

Paolosgirl · 13/01/2010 20:35

Agree wholeheartedly with Hannahsaunt. The SNP (although I realise that it's probably the doing of smirking Alex) simply do not recognise their limitations. They lead a minority government - which is NOT actually a Govt, despite Mr Salmond's protestations to the contrary, and one which had failed on just about all of it's election promises.

I've heard Nicola Sturgeon present at a few things, and she does come across as very capable, so if you must give them the webtime, please let it be her and not Mr Salmond and his overinflated ego.

On second thoughts, I would like to ask him about his parliamentary expenses...

GentleOtter · 13/01/2010 20:36

Perhaps they will send Sandy Thom.....

Agree with the Greens suggestion - would like to see them on here

TheCrackFox · 13/01/2010 20:42

May as well haul them in for a grilling chat. Fingers crossed it will be Alex Salmond because I hope someone can wipe his smug self satisfied grin off his face.
