What do you think to a live webchat with someone from the SNP?

Hello.

The SNP have contacted us, asking if Mumsnet would be interested in hosting a live webchat with a senior figure from the SNP.

We know there are plenty of Scottish MNers out there - how does this idea tickle your political fancy?

And what do those of you who aren't in Scotland think?

YY to SNP and Plaid Cymru and the Green Party.

I think it only fair, and if they actually want to do battle converse with Mners then mores the better.

louii · 13/01/2010 20:44

Oh yes please.

Lizzylou · 13/01/2010 20:44

OMG, doesn't Sean Connery support the BNP?

Get him on!

Looking like he did in Marnie, though, if possible

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 13/01/2010 20:45

Sean Connery supports the BNP? Lizzy

Paolosgirl · 13/01/2010 20:47

I think you mean the SNP

fluffles · 13/01/2010 20:48

yes, i think we should def. have the SNP, afterall they are in power in holyrood and most issues that affect families are devolved.

they were a single issue party but once they got into power they had to get to grips with education, culture etc. and i think they've done a reasonable job... not ideal but not terrible either.

i don't agree that they're irrelevant just because they have a minority govt. - i think that makes their politics even more interesting.

p.s. didn't vote for them, but am openminded.

TheCrackFox · 13/01/2010 20:48

Yes he loves Scotland but lives in the Bahamas.

louii · 13/01/2010 20:48

Kenny Macaskill would be good.

tvaerialmagpiebin · 13/01/2010 20:49

In a way I would like to see Nick Griffin too, if only to see how he coped with the huge MN presence and all the very alented people who have posted on threads like the Wooton Bassett one (welcome back Riven btw). But he is just such a slimy toad that I would have to look between my fingers at him a bit like I did on Question Time.

I think that since we are meant to be the best thing since sliced bread for all these politicians, it would be good to get a real variety of them on here. There is always going to be support/not as MN has such a huge demographic.

How about some of those MPs who are leaving Parliament this time? Radio 4 has run a series of interviews with ones like Ann Widdecombe. She would be good to have, I can't agree with her politics but she is one feisty lady.

Lizzylou · 13/01/2010 20:49

Ooops

Sean has his faults but not sure he is BNP!

Paolosgirl · 13/01/2010 20:51

I'm sure Connery be back in a flash if Scotland ever gets independence

PussinJimmyChoos · 13/01/2010 20:51

Let's forget politics and have R Patz on...

Lizzylou · 13/01/2010 20:52

lankyalto, I think that is why I made my typo, I was wondering if we would ever have the BNP on and what a furore that would be......

Honest guv

squeaver · 13/01/2010 20:52

I thought no, but now I think yes because there's a few things as a Scot living in England I'd like to ask.

squeaver · 13/01/2010 20:54

I'm sure you're fascinated by my thought process, btw.

But, MNHQ, you know you'll have to have them all now, don't you? Plaid Cymru, DUP, Sinn Fein, Monster Raving Loonies.....

Paolosgirl · 13/01/2010 20:56

I vote for Neil Oliver has the MN Must Have Scotsman - if only to pander to the huge crush I have on the man.

Yep StewieGriffinsMom - Connery is a bit Lewis Hamilton in that respect, barring the DV of course.

Lizzylou · 13/01/2010 21:04

Oh yes, SGM, Sean has lots of issues I think.
It was a tongue in cheek suggestion.

Nonetheless it would be good for non-Scottish MNers to see what the SNP have to say as well as Scottish Mners.

Paolosgirl · 13/01/2010 21:04

Wouldn't it be lovely to think that he cares about this country so much that he would return and pump all the money from his taxes into the Scottish economy.

Hahahahahahahahaha!

louii · 13/01/2010 21:15

But all his money from taxes would not go into Scottish economy would be UK economy isn't that the point?

Paolosgirl · 13/01/2010 21:15

Yes - you would think he would invested some of his millions in making Scotland a better place, wouldn't you?

I wonder why he hasn't?

FromGirders · 14/01/2010 09:57

Yes, please. I may even have to take time off work . . .

hannahsaunt · 14/01/2010 10:35

I stand by my assertion that they are in power by default rather than mass will of the people to be independent. There are some awfully good SNP people in the way that there are decent people in every party but I am mortified to be represented on an international stage by Alex Salmond (and Nicola Sturgeon). They are bigoted and blinkered and hypocritical. I hate to think that they are how people view Scotland about which I care passionately and strongly support devolution within a United Kingdom.
