Hi all,

We’re pleased to announce a Mumsnet Asks Zoomchat with Tory Leadership candidate Kemi Badenoch MP on Monday 28th October at 10am. Please post your questions below, and Justine will put a selection to Kemi via Zoom.

You’ll be able to watch live by registering here but we’ll also be recording so you can catch up if you can’t make it. We won’t be able to take questions during the chat so please do make sure you post on the thread if there’s something you’d like to ask. We’ll be closing the thread to questions on Sunday morning.

If you join the Zoomchat, your camera will be turned off by default. Your screen name might be visible, so consider whether you’re happy to use your real name or want to use your MN posting name - or something else entirely.

Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point (we'll be deleting questions that are repeated multiple times). We'll be limited for time so do keep questions as short as possible so that we’re able to ask more of them - as always, we'll try to make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users.

Thanks,
MNHQ.

How would you balance some people's belief that "everyone has a gender identity" with those of us that don't hold this belief?

For example, should biological males' gender identity allow them to take part in women's elite or grass roots sports if they believe themselves to "be" female - and would holding a GRC make a difference?

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 25/10/2024 22:11

How would you work to make Conservatism appealing to more young people?

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 25/10/2024 22:13

I know you have said you like to understand how things work, in part by taking them apart. Would you consider a post-legislative review of the GRA, in order to see if it is still needed (we have gay marriage for example), how to deal with existing GRC holders, how it's impacted our safeguarding frameworks, accuracy of data and public records, and exactly what would happen if we repealed it?

TIA Flowers

Thank you for doing this Kemi, I really hope you win next week! I know you’re not keen on outlining much policy yet and I understand why, but what’s the biggest change you think we need in early years provision and education?

MiraculousLadybug · 25/10/2024 22:32

I've seen a lot about your policies in other areas, but what are your thoughts on changing legislation to get the social care bill down, it's spiralled massively out of control and it's bankrupting local councils and meaning they can't function for the majority because they're paying obscene money to child and adult social care for what seems like private companies massively overcharging them for poor value services that "benefit" a tiny minority?

Moonshiners · 25/10/2024 22:38

You have served under 4 Prime Ministers (May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak). Which do you respect the most? Which do you respect the least? And why.

Appalonia · 25/10/2024 23:31

Can you please repeal The Gender Recognition Act?

hholiday · 26/10/2024 04:37

What are your actual views on maternity pay?

Bluelupin · 26/10/2024 08:37

What is your position on digital id?

DawnAttwood · 26/10/2024 12:08

Hi Kemi,

You made an interesting point in an interview earlier this year about how you felt the Nestle boycott was patronising because in some cases formula milk might be better for women in developing countries. I wondered what you think of formula legislation in this country - the ban on advertising, the need for midwives to push breastfeeding, the fact that you can't include formula in special offers. Is that something you would change?

CallingOccupantsOfInterplanetaryCraft · 26/10/2024 12:24

Hi Kemi. You’ve previously made strong remarks about civil servants, suggesting that some are undermining ministers and that a significant portion might even deserve prison time. Do you believe there’s a noticeable left-wing bias within the civil service? If so, what do you think causes that? Given that a balanced representation would likely include similar numbers of right-leaning civil servants, do you see any inherent issues with more left-leaning individuals being drawn to public service roles? Couldn’t this even be viewed as a positive thing, reflecting a commitment to public service values? Thanks in advance.

ILikeDungs · 26/10/2024 15:36

Hello Kemi!

What are your views on surrogacy?

Mumof2namechange · 26/10/2024 15:38

Hi Kemi, many thanks for doing this interview on mumsnet. What do you think about the planned VAT on private schools?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/10/2024 15:42

Hi Kemi do you specifically only hate immigrants, pregnant women, autistic children, the disabled and trans people or do you have a longer list to share with us? Or is it a case of bad publicity, taken out of context?

SozzyB · 26/10/2024 15:43

Given the ongoing attacks on Christianity in this country, what will you do to protect and enhance the Christian basis of our society?

Poffy · 26/10/2024 15:44

Hi Kemi. Few governments seem brave enough to consider radical reform of NHS and social care. How would you approach it,?

BennyBee · 26/10/2024 15:50

Dear Kemi, can you please explain your position on assisted suicide, and how you plan to vote on the upcoming The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. Thanks.

Victoriananow · 26/10/2024 16:11

Hi Kemi,
Will you pledge to support reparations to former British colonies by investing in their infrastructure, ie building roads, schools, hospitals etc. When you become Tory leader and in recognition of your ancestry.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 26/10/2024 16:11

Hi Kemi, thanks for coming.

What do you think are the most fruitful ways of cross-party working in politics? Is this something you'd seek to promote more of?

username1478 · 26/10/2024 16:24

Can you name five policies you'd like to see implemented in order to progress women rights in the UK?

pavementgerms · 26/10/2024 16:24

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/10/2024 15:42

Hi Kemi do you specifically only hate immigrants, pregnant women, autistic children, the disabled and trans people or do you have a longer list to share with us? Or is it a case of bad publicity, taken out of context?

Yes, please do answer this. I'm disabled, do you hate me too? On the other hand, I have lots of qualifications and earn decent money. Am I vulnerable enough for you to have contempt for? Quite the conundrum.

Netzeronightmare · 26/10/2024 16:52

Hi Kemi

Are wind and solar power a credible alternative to fossil fuels? If not, what is?

MalagaNights · 26/10/2024 17:04

Hi Kemi you've made some comments about support for special needs children which some families have found alarming.

Could you tell us what you think needs to change in the SEND system?
How can we ensure children's needs are met?

I'd be particularly interested in your views on special schools and the lack of places, how children should be supported in mainstream schools, and the role of LAs.
Thanks.

happydappy2 · 26/10/2024 17:19

Hi Kemi, what justification is there for giving males a certificate that gives them legal recognition as being female?

Kag13 · 26/10/2024 18:32

Hi Kemi, thank you for taking the trouble to ask ordinary voters their views.

my daughter is a keen runner. I m appalled that males can self identify into women’s sports and women’s spaces. Will you continue to fight against this in opposition as you have done in government? ( and thank you for being the voice of reason and supporting 51% of the population.

i also work in the court service,. During a recent court refurbishment the architects wanted to make all the public toilets unisex. I provided the management with the guidance you issued when in government about single sex toilet facilities in public buildings and we now have one unsex and one female only. Thank you.
