Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party (and candidate in the current leadership election) Jeremy Corbyn MP on Monday 19 September at 2pm.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and before 2015 was best known as a rebellious backbencher and chair of the Stop the War coalition. His leadership of Labour over the past year has inspired enthusiastic support as well as attracting sustained criticism. Among other things, he’s taken a new crowd-sourced approach to Prime Minister’s Questions, opposed military intervention in Syria and proposed the renationalisation of the railways.

His last webchat on Mumsnet (alongside fellow leadership candidate in 2015, Liz Kendall) featured lively discussions about socialism, electability and the provenance of Jeremy’s vests (Holloway Road market, since you ask).

Please do join the chat on Monday at 2, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. If you know people who you think would like to ask Jeremy a question, do please share the link around on social media too.

(If you’re interested in our webchat with the other Labour leadership candidate Owen Smith, take a look here .)

As always, please do keep in mind our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and above all, keep it civil [taps nose like that geezer Shaw Taylor in Police 5] (Horribly showing my age there).

Heads up - webchat with Jeremy Corbyn Monday 19th Sept @ 2pm.

Dear Jeremy

What will you do to tackle the New Build property market industry?
There seem to be no clear form of arbitration or proper enforcement of standards being practiced.
Home Owners are being exploited because of a lack of regulations.
how will you contribute to resolving this for a fair and just society?

catslife · 19/09/2016 14:48

My question is about boundary changes for the UK parliament. These are based on the number of registered voters. However it looks as if in many inner-city areas there are a high number of people that aren't registered to vote (but who would be entitled to do so).
My 17 year old is now registered to vote but it was a very lengthy process. How do we encourage more people to register and not leave it to the last minute?

Darcy1234 · 19/09/2016 14:48

Biscuits & Prostitution Mumsnet at its best...

WinchesterWoman · 19/09/2016 14:48

He hasn't said anything else of any interest that's why. Some poor sap at the BBC probably has the job of monitoring this and trying to make something broadcastable out of it.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 19/09/2016 14:48

I have to say Basil that I agree with you even though I am completely supportive of Corbyn in every other matter.

Lawlsie1976 · 19/09/2016 14:48

These questions are brilliant! The answers are typical politician's platitudes. And Corbyn is supposed to be a breath of fresh air? Straight talking? He sounds like any other politician here.

RebeccaMumsnet · 19/09/2016 14:48

Hi all,

Can we remind you all of our webchat guidelines please?

Obviously you're free to voice your opinion, but do be civil/polite - please afford our guests the same cordiality you would if they stopped by your own house. There are loads of Qs so please bear with, we're trying to get through as many as possible.

Thank you!

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 19/09/2016 14:49

Fair enough Make but he doesn't have to answer them. Is Monday Seamus Milnes day off? Are all the advisors in a room somewhere thrashing out whether it's better to answer or ignore the 'biscuit' questions? It'd explain the delays.

"BIWI will be pleased to see she didn't miss anything."

She'll be pleased with the biscuit answer though...

Youarenotprepared · 19/09/2016 14:50

I would like to know how you will be able to afford to build all the new council houses and reduce all the rents of private tenants? It means nothing to say it unless there's actually a way to do it.

pollycazalet · 19/09/2016 14:50

Hi Rebecca Can you answer my question about whether you triage the questions in advance, whether you give chatters any guidance on themes and questions to go for?

PenguinsAreAce · 19/09/2016 14:50
MsFiremanSam · 19/09/2016 14:50

I'm a Corbyn supporter. Very disappointed by this web chat.
The BBC is reporting that his favourite biscuit is shortbread, FFS.

Smellacat · 19/09/2016 14:50

Would you legalise cannabis?

GingerSTEM · 19/09/2016 14:50

Jeremy, if you're so anti-sugar could you please explain your recipe for jam?

WankingMonkey · 19/09/2016 14:50

It's when someone calling themselves "wanking monkey" apologises profusely for the small faux pas of asking two questions in a web chat that I realise just how great mumsnet is Grin

Haha. I was going to namechange for this thread but forgot. I realise now I look slightly daft asking serious questions, moaning about trivial ones whilst having this username Blush

fldsmdfr · 19/09/2016 14:51

Our position is one of demanding market access to Europe for British industry, protection of workers' rights including maternity and paternity leave and working time directive, as well as environmental and consumer rights. Additionally we have to do everything possible to remain members of the European Investment Bank and ensure that we have a close relationship with the education sector of Europe, such as remaining a part of the ERASMUS programme. I have convened meetings with European socialists and trade unionists - Emily Thornberry our office lead on this is meeting the Norwegian model on this this week and we are working with like-minded colleagues across Europe.

You know what would guarantee all of those things? Not Brexiting.

BeatrixBurgund · 19/09/2016 14:51

Yes, you are right - I only scanned the thread quickly and missed that. Would also like to see that answered.

swindonlass1989 · 19/09/2016 14:51

How can you be completely "anti-sugar", and yet have a hobby in jam making?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 19/09/2016 14:52

No response on the questions about antisemitism? Or did I miss that

JeremyCorbyn · 19/09/2016 14:52

@StuntNun

How will Mr Corbyn reunite the Labour Party once he has been reelected as leader, given all the dissent among the MPs?

P.S. My mum is totally in love with you!

The election isn't over yet, and if reelected I will invite a broad range of parliamentary colleagues to join in the shadow cabinet and shadow teams, and ask MPs to recognise the enormous participation in this leadership election by members and supporters who clearly want us to do politics differently, but also want us to come together to put forward a credible alternative to the austerity and inequality of the Conservative government.

I have had many discussions with individual MPs over the last few weeks, and I sincerely hope we can come together after this election is over.

@Vistaverde

What do you plan to do to practically to stop the abuse and misogyny that is currently occurring within the Labour movement to ensure that the party is inclusive and welcoming to the wide spectrum of political views and opinions?

I am another one who is deeply concerned by the suggestions of deselecting MPs.

Misogyny and abuse is completely unacceptable anywhere in society, therefore totally unacceptable within the Labour party. I've made that very, very clear. The Labour Party with its vast membership has to be a safe place for people to have discussions of every political issue.

In the Women's Manifesto, we made it very clear that we would bring in effective regulation to tackle sexual harassment and online threats at work and to ensure a stronger equal opportunities policy in the Labour Party. We have the option of all-women shortlists, as well as a requirement of gender-balance in local party office-holding to increase women's representation.

I'm very serious about challenging any form of misogyny, abuse, racism or harassment, both within the Labour movement and society as a whole.

Nothing on antisemitism - quelled surprise

Thecunk but that issue isn't a single issue.. It's women's rights
