This is very exciting. I posted my question yesterday as I was worried I may not make today's web chat but I've magically made myself available... Grin

I would like to know who was the worst on-screen partner to work with (hope its not Dustin Hoffman)?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 08/10/2015 13:10

If Meryl answers my question I'm pretty sure this will be a tale that gets twisted over time; in which I was invited to lunch be her and she graciously spoke to me about her life. That's the version the grandkids will hear. Grin

How does it feel to be an inspiration to so many young women?

JustineMumsnet · 08/10/2015 13:11

Meryl's here and just scrolling through questions. We'll be off in a tick.

tribpot · 08/10/2015 13:11

Saga is it too late to name one of your children Meryl and pretend she told you to do it :)

Stellar67 · 08/10/2015 13:12

Do we still get 45 minutes?

MerylStreep · 08/10/2015 13:12

Oh my god I can't believe I came onto Mumsnet at the right time for Meryl Fucking Streep!

I can't think of any sort of decent question to ask so I just want to say that YOU ROCK!

Meryl Streep!

Stellar67 · 08/10/2015 13:15

Blah away!

MerylStreep · 08/10/2015 13:15

@SagaNorensLeatherTrousers

Hi Meryl,

What excited you the most about this film, Suffragette, before making it? I guess I'm asking because I'd like to know if you generally pick scripts/characters for the challenge or because you think (and well, we KNOW) you can do them justice?

Thank you!

I knew a great deal about the movement to secure the vote in the Us, but I didn't know anything about the British movement, and I was shocked to discover how radical it was, how violent it was towards property only, and that had been a strategic decision taken after 50 years of politely petition government, and failing to secure the vote.

Hello!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 08/10/2015 13:15

Mumsnet should be called Blahnet, it's what we love.

RattusRattus · 08/10/2015 13:16

Sorry - am in too much awe to think of a question.

Just to tell you that my two daughters (aged 9 & 11) absolutely adore you - you are a great role model for them!

tribpot · 08/10/2015 13:17

Saga gets first question! Deed poll tomorrow morning Saga, it is ON. Btw, fun fact: Meryl's real name is Mary Louise, so that gives you some other possibilities.

MerylStreep · 08/10/2015 13:17

@MimiLaBonq1

Please could you share a moment where you were lacking in confidence - either in your professional or personal life - and tell us how you overcame it.

Big fan by the way, you are a wonderful actress and seem like a lovely person too.

I lack confidence in the 90 seconds before I have to speak publicly, every single time. I have trouble getting my breath, I think I'm going to forget everything that I'm going to say, I get sweaty and have to go to the bathroom. But then, when I walk out, I usually can locate one pair of eyes, and if you feel you're talking to one person instead of 500 looking at you, it makes it personal and you can relocate what you really want to say.

@ChinUpChestOut

Hi Meryl

You're No. 1 on my Goddess list (ahead of Judi Dench AND Jessica Ennis-Hill).

You have so much experience in telling stories, are you ever going to write a screenplay yourself?

Yours in total admiration
ChinUp

I have written a screenplay, with my friend Carrie Fisher, and one of the studios bought - in the last two weeks before I gave birth to my fourth child - and it really made us laugh but I don't know whether that's the hormones. We sold it for a great deal of money and it sort of paid for the fact that I was out of work with the baby for the year.
