Have you ever be star struck?

Bogeyface · 07/10/2015 21:28

Please can I be you if when I grow up? :)

Janeymoo50 · 07/10/2015 21:34

Hi Meryl, in Mamma Mia the song "slipping through my fingers" really moved me and is one of my favourite scenes in the movie. What if anything do you regret letting "slip through your fingers" in your life or career...be it a role in a film, a relationship or friendship or even an opportunity to do something you decided not to?

PS: Is Julie Walters the best fun ever to work with or not???

Kind regards
Janey

TheWrathofNaan · 07/10/2015 21:42

Storm braver- I loved hope springs!! I thought it was so relatable and yet usual for a Hollywood film to show a normal marriage with all its ups and downs. Nice to see a film aimed at an older audience too.

katienana · 07/10/2015 22:03

What drives you to keep working? Would you ever jack it in to run a hotel on a Greek island or similar? And do you you ever feel bad about winning loads of awards when some actors never win anything?

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 07/10/2015 22:09

Meryl, you are a legend. Whether comedy or tragedy or everything in between (sometimes all in the same movie) you just nail those moments and pauses and looks that make the lines and the characterisation even better.

On that note, my question is: you have told so many stories throughout your career, what is the story that you're still burning to tell? Some aspect of the human condition? A particular personality or historical figure/ situation? A story you heard about or read about and thought 'that would make a great movie and I'd love to play that person'?

Thank you! Flowers

StillFrankie · 07/10/2015 22:11

You are in a film about a period in our history (the suffragette movement). if you could do a movie about any period in history, any historical event, what would you choose?

love you Meryl

yeOldeTrout · 07/10/2015 22:14

How in the world did you ever juggle 4 kids and a full-on career? What would you do differently if you could relive the 1980s?

Clawdy · 07/10/2015 22:27

Meryl, just a fun question....Loved the dungarees you wore in Mamma Mia (only film ever that daughter and I both loved!). Did you ever wear them in real life?

blanketneeded · 07/10/2015 22:27

Hi Meryl, just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching you and listening to you on screen. I suspect that no matter who or what you decided to become in life you would have succeeded because there's a quiet intelligence to you. You're compelling to watch in the same way as our own Judy Dench.
I find it amazing that you can find the part of yourself that is the formidable editor in Devil Wears Prada and the vulnerability of Karen Silkwood; and exploit them both to bring such truth to the roles that you've played.
Also I have to tell you that many years ago I lived with a girl who's neighbour (well parents' neighbour) at home on Long Island was your accent coach for Sophie's Choice.

Totally irrelevant but I love the whole six degrees of separation thing!

Waltermittythesequel · 07/10/2015 22:32

Meryl Streep!

My question: do you think social media ie twitter and instagram and celebrities' use of them have helped or hindered actors/singers on the whole?

Was a degree of separation from the 'real world' better or is more accessibility better, in your opinion?

southeastdweller · 07/10/2015 22:33

Hi Meryl. Is there any film of yours you're particularly proud of that you wish more people had seen?

MagersfonteinLugg · 07/10/2015 22:48

How do you manage to stay so grounded and how have you managed to stay married for so long given the fact that you work in such an unpredictable environment?
BTW, I love the way you switch between drama and comedy so effortlessly.

Shakey15000 · 07/10/2015 22:51

Hi Meryl (never thought I'd type that!)

My question- How much did you squeal when asked to play the witch in Sondheim's Into the Woods?? Dream role eh? Will you do more musical stuff you think?

My favourite part of the film was (sorry it's not one of your bits!) when the Prince's ball was happening in the background and they used the music from The Sun Won't Set (A Little Night Music). Lovely touch Smile

Thanks if you see this

MagersfonteinLugg · 07/10/2015 22:56

Must point out to PP that Meryl has been nominated for an Oscar 19 times but only won 3 ( it's a disgrace).

BoffinMum · 07/10/2015 23:00

Sorry Meryl, I am too busy curtseying over here to think coherently.

Right, now, what I would like to know is what came of your campaigning against toxic chemicals in food in apple juice and so on, that you were involved in about 20 years ago? Were you satisfied with the outcome?

Awholelottanosy · 08/10/2015 00:02

Hi Meryl, thanks for taking the time to come on here and chat to us!

My question is, what was Woody Allen like to work with and what did you think about the accusations that surfaced years later about him..?

TheSwallowingHandmaiden · 08/10/2015 00:19

Meryl! I'm pregnant with a boy and am going to call him Wilbur. Do you approve?

Theladyinthebath · 08/10/2015 00:29

Meryl - I have long worshipped you not least because people have often complimented by being told i look like you

My question is:

How on earth did you all cope during the filming of the Deer Hunter when John (Cazale) was so poorly. I watch it in awe that the amazing performances mask what must have been inner emotional torture

Thanks so much x

Baconyum · 08/10/2015 03:02

Hi, my favourite film of yours is Silkwood. But I've also enjoyed devil wears Prada, mamma Mia, Kramer vs Kramer (brilliant), its complicated, death becomes her, the Manchurian candidate, music of the heart...

As you appear in so many strong female roles, and as has been mentioned upthread there's the writers lab, I'd be interested to know what you think of Rose McGowan's tweet regarding casting notes and her comments regarding the misogyny in film making, also the #askhermore #smartgirlsask campaign/s regarding the questions asked of actresses on the red carpet? I think considering the subject if Sufragette the lack of decent roles for women in the industry needs addressed.

Who are the most supportive men in Hollywood in terms of sexual equality?

saffronwblue · 08/10/2015 03:06

Hi Meryl
Thank you for your lifetime of magnificent films and portrayal of incredibly complex and diverse women. My life has been enriched by the movies you have made.
My question - how much psychological pain was the cost of making Sophie's Choice? I felt different after seeing it - what emotional impact did the making of it have on you?

FutureMum · 08/10/2015 03:35

Hi Meryl, I am mum to a wonderful little girl with ads so inclusion and diversity is v important to me, do you think the film industry is more inclusive now than when you started? What do you think should be done to make it even more so? Thanks for your films!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/10/2015 04:14

I'm not sure I have a question, I just want to do a bit of hero-worship as I think you're fabulous! Talking of which, I'd have loved to have seen you in Absolutely Fabulous with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley...

My favourite film of yours is still Silkwood, although I love all the films of yours that I've seen. I still remember seeing Silkwood at Leicester Square Odeon, and it was the first, and possibly only, time that the entire audience (full cinema too) left in silence. It was that effective.

I do rather love your work in Death Becomes Her as well - did you enjoy making that film?

I suppose I do have a question - who would you have liked to play in the Harry Potter films, if anyone?

I'm looking forward to Suffragette, and still want to see Ricki and the Flash (although I think it's finished its run here, sadly, so will have to wait for the DVD now)

TanteRose · 08/10/2015 05:59

Hello Meryl Smile

The premiere of Suffragette went off with a bang, didn't it?!
Looking forward to seeing the film.

Was watching The Hours again the other day - and I loved the link in the film to the classic "Mrs. Dalloway".

What are you reading at the moment? Do you even have time to read for pleasure?

justonemorethread · 08/10/2015 06:29

When you are playing a role are you completely immersed in it or do you just jump in and out of character on and off set?

Having played so many different roles have you felt as if you have somehow lost a bit of your own identity along the way, or do you actually feel enriched?
