Labour leadership hustings - Webchat with Jeremy Corbyn and Liz Kendall, Tuesday 28 July 2015 at 12pm

Hello

Following on from Friday's webchat with Yvette Cooper, we’re pleased to announced the second of our Labour leadership hustings webchats with Jeremy Corbyn and Liz Kendall, tomorrow at 12 noon.

Jeremy Corbyn has been an MP for North Islington since 1983. In addition to his involvement with local organisations and community groups, he has a keen interest in international affairs and is the chair of the Stop the War coalition, which he helped establish in 2001. Jeremy’s candidacy for the Labour leadership has triggered a flurry of headlines and soundbites.

Liz Kendall was elected as Labour MP for Leicester West in 2010. She is the Shadow Minister for Care and Older People. Her focuses include improving public services and making society fairer, and she has previously been the Director of the Ambulance Service Network and of the Maternity Alliance charity. Liz has recently spoken out against sexism in politics, following a row about remarks made by a supporter of Andy Burnham’s candidacy.

Please join us for the webchat at 12pm tomorrow if you can, or post a question for Jeremy and Liz here in advance if you can’t.

Labour leadership voting is open until Thursday 10 September and the ballot results will be released on Saturday 12 September.

Thanks

MNHQ

Thanks MNHQ for answering my question about why they had to share a webchat rather than have one each. I do think it's a shame that they had to share whilst the other two candidates will have a full web-chat to respond to questions. I can't help but think LK would have answered more questions if she had a webchat on her own. Admittedly it didn't seem to hold JC back at all.

The more I hear and read about Corbyn, the better he sounds. Better for Labour and better for the country. At least it sounds like he gives a toss about people, rather that policy documents.

I agree Baking. I normally go with the greens but he is tempting me to go back mainstream... Hope he wins.

Fantasy touche.

Im going to ask Burhman exactly my same question, you could too maybe, asn see if HE answers.

Bloody biscuit indeed just takes the bloody biscuit!

kaftanlady · 29/07/2015 16:43

Why was the biscuit answer ridiculous? It's Mumsnet tradition innit? Grin

Also it makes papers more likely to publish a story about the chat IMO as it adds a bit of interest.

derxa · 29/07/2015 17:10

OK kaftanlady Grin Biscuit

DoesItReallyMatter · 29/07/2015 17:25

I was the poster who asked the biscuit question and I thought it was pretty ridiculous too.Blush. I was impressed with Jeremy for not answering it. Wink
Seeing as I had asked Yvette I thought I might as well ride it out and ask Jeremy and Liz too. In for a penny and all that...
It should just be a one or two word reply so hopefully not too distracting from the much more serious questions.
It's hilarious and quite naff that the biscuit question was mentioned in The Telegraph. Shock
Anyway back to the name change.

Fantasyland · 29/07/2015 20:51

Kaftan I thought it was ridiculous as there is so many serious issues that people are worried about and this was the chance to ask a potential labour leader what could be done to change for the better and the serious issues affecting them but time was taken up replying about a biscuit.

Someone might as well asked Jeremy if he had a penis beaker!

I also didn't like the daily mail write up (I think it was daily mail) where it portrayed the biscuit question and lizs answer , the way it was wrote as if silly mumsnetters couldn't think of any serious questions out of their silly mummy brains ( think Harry Enfield sketch with ' Women know your place' where the lady tries to ask a question about current affairs)
