Webchat with Russell Brand - Weds 12 Nov - 1 o'clock

We're very pleased to say that Russell Brand is joining us on Wednesday 12 November between 1 and 2pm.

For those who don't know, Russell Brand is a comedian, actor and author.

His latest book, Revolution, sets out his views for political change - because, he says, "democracy has been taken away from us".

You might have caught his recent interview on Newsnight, which was widely discussed on the boards.

This is his third book, following My Booky Wook and Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal and has just published the first in a new series of children's books Russell Brand's Trickster Tales: The Pied Piper of Hamelin, written by Russell and illustrated by Chris Riddell.

Please do join us on Wednesday - or if you can't, feel free to post questions in advance, here.

(Reminder that we only allow one question and one follow-up per user, so make sure to use yours wisely Smile)

Thank you for your answer. It is true - you aren't a politician, and you weren't born rich, but I don't think you really truly know what it is like to be poor and struggling in this country, otherwise you wouldn't suggest an hour's meditation a day.

I know women who are single parents, full-time mums, who are really struggling to keep their heads above water. They don't have time to meditate - they barely get 5 minutes peace to go to the loo alone.

ArcheryAnnie · 12/11/2014 14:01

He didn't answer my question.

muminthecity · 12/11/2014 14:02

Russell, my daughter (the one who drew you that picture) loves the selfish giant too, it's been her favourite story since she was tiny. She also loves going to the Albert Hall to watch foppish comedians acting out their latest children's story on stage (hint, hint Grin)

Prefer your typed language style rather than your usual spoken flowery wank.

Any comments on your publishers' alleged 'interesting' tax affairs? (As explained in Private Eye)

Charli69 · 12/11/2014 14:03

It did seem to me like a lot of the questions asked were ones being posted now, opposed to ones posted earlier on today etc.

Hey ho, was great to have him here nonetheless, thanks russ and mumsnet team :)

Stupidhead · 12/11/2014 14:04

Well that was odd.

RachelMumsnet · 12/11/2014 14:04

Russell is offering up to 100 FREE tickets for the event at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday night at 6pm when he and illustrator and their band of Tricksters will be performing in a multi media performance of The Pied Piper of Hamelin, based on his new children's book. Starts at 6.30pm - you will need to be at the Royal Albert Hall at 6pm to pick up tickets. If you would like to go along, email [email protected] and state how many tickets you would like and the name we should leave on the door. We'll be in touch by 5pm today to let you know if you've been successful.

Davsmum · 12/11/2014 14:04

ArcheryAnnie - He didn't answer lots of questions.

miaowmix · 12/11/2014 14:05

THANKS RUSSELL Thanks

God, time for a cold shower and a namechange.

ChippingInAutumnLover · 12/11/2014 14:06

Rachel is our Guest still reading or has he left this chat now?

CoffeeFirst · 12/11/2014 14:06

thanks!

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2014 14:06

Well it went better than I had feared. Smile

LineRunner · 12/11/2014 14:06

But was he shown the questions and rejected them, or were they not selected to be put forward to him?

BastardGoDarkly · 12/11/2014 14:07

Awww that's nice :)

TiggyD · 12/11/2014 14:07

Has he gone?

It's a shame that he pick pick or chose his own questions, or had MNHQers playing it safe with the questions they read to him. Still glad there were some proper questions rather than the cushy chats that Ian "Pussy" Katz arranges for him on Newsnight.

Bau69er1 · 12/11/2014 14:07

u are so honest i can't believe :D u sir have my biggest Respect

KatherinaMinola · 12/11/2014 14:08

I imagine MNHQ filtered the questions and read the 'approved' ones to him.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2014 14:08

I am off out now. Will come back and read all the moaning later. Grin

ArcheryAnnie · 12/11/2014 14:08

Davsmum do you seriously think "what colour clothes would you wear" and "what's your fave Smith's song" are more important questions for someone allegedly fomenting a political revolution to answer than "what are you going to do about your perceived support for a rapist"?

HeeHiles · 12/11/2014 14:09

Just applied for tickets - fingers crossed!!

zerotolerancezone · 12/11/2014 14:10

MNHQ - how do you decide on which questions to ask on these things? Make a list, put similar questions together and then try and do one from each sort of theme? Or just wing it and pick out random ones from the ever expanding thread?

FuckOffGerbil · 12/11/2014 14:11

Seriously Mumsnet, next time just get a fortune cookie to do a webchat. You'd get more fucking sense.

Oi Russell! What are my wining lottery numbers?

MagratsHair · 12/11/2014 14:12

Well I came on genuinely interested to hear his point of view & to see if he was worth paying attention to & following. And my experience was that's its all a load of bollocks & his attempts to alienate me through language (compassionless paddocks and inculcated in solipsism anyone?) didn't work because, you know, I have a brain & I understand what the words mean.

Vague twaddly self absorbed tosh & a lot less interesting than I was expecting!
