Webchat with Russell Brand - Weds 12 Nov - 1 o'clock

We're very pleased to say that Russell Brand is joining us on Wednesday 12 November between 1 and 2pm.

For those who don't know, Russell Brand is a comedian, actor and author.

His latest book, Revolution, sets out his views for political change - because, he says, "democracy has been taken away from us".

You might have caught his recent interview on Newsnight, which was widely discussed on the boards.

This is his third book, following My Booky Wook and Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal and has just published the first in a new series of children's books Russell Brand's Trickster Tales: The Pied Piper of Hamelin, written by Russell and illustrated by Chris Riddell.

Please do join us on Wednesday - or if you can't, feel free to post questions in advance, here.

(Reminder that we only allow one question and one follow-up per user, so make sure to use yours wisely Smile)

Anyway, I am done. Off to work for the woman and de-registration request sent to HQ.

HQ you are a disgrace. Increased traffic and controversy serves your ego's and need to be noticed more than it serves the women on here. Quite a few have talked of their experiences of abuse, sexism, sexual assault and misogyny over the years. This was supposed to be a relatively safe space.

And you invite somebody here who has been a prime exponent of these behaviours and continues to do so. Why not invite Julian Le Blanc, Dappy or Ched Evans next?

In the interests of news worthiness and 'balance'.

Hmm
happybubblebrain · 12/11/2014 12:27

I think RB is a feminist. On the JR show he said the only person you should ever really trust (maybe) is your mum. I've never heard a man make a more feminist and true statement than that before.

I don't care if he shagged a lot of women, that doesn't mean he hates women. I shagged a lot of men, it proves nothing.

nevercackle · 12/11/2014 12:31

Have we done the favourite biscuit question?

I have half a pack of Aldi custard creams if you're peckish.

LineRunner · 12/11/2014 12:31

Obviously I'm not referring to people who aren't newly-registered obsequious weirdos, for that would be foolish Smile

BeyondTheLimits · 12/11/2014 12:34

I dunno liney, i cant help but think that if i were to write a declaration of my love for mr brand, as a long term mner i'd namechange first Grin

Bau69er1 · 12/11/2014 12:34

Blessings

Squtternutbaush · 12/11/2014 12:35

I have noticed an influx of posts ended with "real name x" which seems very odd right enough!

Probably seen it through Facebook.

BeyondNumberName12345 · 12/11/2014 12:39

That mr brand is a delightful chap and in no way reminds me of a sixth former who has swallowed a thesaurus...

Some folk seem to be fairly, well, how shall I put this? Maybe Russell needs his shoes cleaning......

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 12/11/2014 12:40

Arselicky

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 12/11/2014 12:40

Dear Russell

When you watch yourself on the telly, do you wonder why on earth anyone is interested in what you have to say? Because I wonder that every time, and wonder if you do too.

SilentAllTheseYears · 12/11/2014 12:41

Squeezy Grin

LineRunner · 12/11/2014 12:41

Good point, Beyond Smile

BillieViper · 12/11/2014 12:43

lilannie
Not an expert on the orange one, no, only at taking the piss in sleb twaddle. I am well aware of green issues ta, as I walk or get the u-bahn everywhere with my kids. Have not driven since 2006, can you say the same? Just think you are one of the majority ready to pick but not putting your own money where your mouth is unless you want to share your good work with us. As for the weasily cop out of 'you'll just have to wait won't you' it remains libel to accuse someone of not being sober/have fallen off the wagon without evidence to back up that statement.

Squtternutbaush · 12/11/2014 12:45

:o Squeezy

Must be the first webchat that involved rimming the guest lol

RebeccaMumsnet · 12/11/2014 12:45

@LineRunner

This isn't a MN webchat any more.

It is a thread increasingly populated by RB fans who have joined specifically to come and be obsequious weirdos.

Hello,

Just popping in to say that we have suspended new registrations during this webchat.

HairyPotter · 12/11/2014 12:46

I have honestly never seen so many new posters on one thread. I'm sure it is just a coincidence that they are all pro brand Hmm

MN, very saddened at your decision to invite this man on.

BillieViper · 12/11/2014 12:47

Oh lil and now you're registering in a protest flounce until your next name change
Too predictable. Not got enough balls to actually speak to the person you are accusing of misogyny and hypocrisy. Oh no cos you are off to work. Of course.

HairyPotter · 12/11/2014 12:48

Hello

Just popping in to say that we have suspended new registrations during this webchat.

So you won't be using any questions from new poster either I presume?

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 12/11/2014 12:49

MNHQ When did you suspend new registrations?

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2014 12:51

Well with 10 minutes to go I would like to wish both RB & MNHQ luck. I think they are going to need it.
I am not sure i can bear to stay around to 'see' it live. Sad

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 12/11/2014 12:51

Hairy, p'raps Brand is on a mass sockpuppeting mission?

ArcheryAnnie · 12/11/2014 12:52

Hi Russell. When you visited Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy, did your conversation focus on the need for him to properly answer the rape allegations made against him, and take sexual abuse in social justice movements seriously? And if not, why not?

queenceleste · 12/11/2014 12:53

Alpha how rude!

In Defence of Russell Brand:

Brand speaks truth to power and the establishment probably really hates him for that and they squirm around so obviously when they have to debate with him. How many celebrities speak this openly in direct opposition to the status quo?

You have to be very intelligent to take on the pundits as Brand does. You can't give Paxman a run for his money unless you are as clever as him.

He is very open and honest about his strengths and weaknesses. How many people are this honest?

He is open about his spiritual curiosity and commitment. This is not an easy thing to make public.

I can only speak for myself but I love it when he talks about being the child of a single mum with no leg up to anywhere except, perhaps, because she loved him so much that he had the self-belief to go for what he wanted to, and to recover from addiction to drugs.

I love Russell Brand - he has become a spokesman for some of the least powerful people and he only has that platform because he has fame and wealth. But he is using his fame for good. That is wonderful. He is also very very very very funny and we have always needed people to make us laugh and we always will.

JustineMumsnet · 12/11/2014 12:54

Pleased to say Russell is here at Mumsnet Towers and will be getting going imminently.
