NOT what I expected to wake up to this morning...

Some of you might recall we have a rather large pond in our garden. On it we have a pair of ducks. First day of lockdown appeared ten, beautiful ducklings. They grew up, flew away and that was that until next spring.

Except I woke up to this......
There are ten more (seven in this photo) and I can only assume the warm weather has thoroughly confused her.

I'm now going spend the next few months fretting over bloody wildlife.

I love this thread. Have always been a bit mad on ducks.

But please, MN, can you move it to somewhere that isn't going to vanish in a few days?

Like Classics?

It's a bit outing thats the issue, though that said I've not posted much under this name.
If the consensus is for it to stay then I'm ok with that.

Meanwhile. Good Morning! We have 7 ducklings AND 2 parents. It's a beautifully sunny day and all are sunning themselves. Hopefully Egwina isn't feeling the wanderlust today.

It would be lovely to stay if you are happy about it, I nearly reported and asked for it to be removed and then remembered it's very outing so didn't!!

We need it until they've fledged and then of course we will want to know about the next clutch...

moonbells · 13/11/2020 12:11

Maybe a new thread should start up now in that case, so duckaddicts we don't miss out on any news Wink

jellybeanz1212 · 13/11/2020 12:44

Yes will need a new thread before the 18th I think 30 days is up then 🥰

AlanThePig · 13/11/2020 12:48

I'll report this one, see if MN can move it to somewhere more permanent, otherwise I'll start a new one.

I would appreciate that @AlanThePig. I just discovered this thread and look forward everyday to your updates.

Ahh we have a new home!

Alan The Pig is/was a Christmas decoration released by Gisele Graham last Christmas that was much sought after. He was christened Alan by a few of us in a TK Maxx group and it spread to the point where Gisele Graham herself calls him Alan.

Duckupdate. Egwina and Duncan both still here happily.

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 13/11/2020 20:08

Under his claw! Phew. So glad I found this thread again! I panicked that the 30 days had already expired. Very pleased that everyone in the duck family is present and correct.

Nackajory · 13/11/2020 20:50

Fab thread OP. Place marking for updates. I'm lucky enough to live by a canal, I spend lots of time feeding the ducks and swans and watching their brood grow.
Full marks for your duck mothering skillsGrin

LadyEloise · 13/11/2020 21:05

Thanks for the explanation AlanThePig.

chickenninja · 15/11/2020 09:39

Good morning, just wanted to say this thread is very cathartic, I've never been so invested in a bunch of ducks! (What's the collective noun for ducks?)
I love checking up on the ducklings, I wonder if they know they are famous.

Anyway, you are doing a brilliant job OP, long live the little ones!

NullcovoidNovember · 15/11/2020 09:50

Glorious thread and you're even a gisella Graham influencer and tk max fan. ❤️❤️😍😍

RandomMess · 15/11/2020 09:51

They can be a raft, team or paddling apparently 😍

Ellmau · 15/11/2020 10:23

they are too big for a heron at this point

Don't be too sure, my DPs used to live by a pond and stream, and once saw a heron eating a full grown duck. (It did struggle a bit, but down it went.)

Lovely thread btw. DPs also had a resident mother duck (they called her Jemima) bring her babies to be fed by hand, it was so cute. She had two blokes on hand, we were never sure if they were potential dads or her brothers.

AlanThePig · 15/11/2020 14:15

We made it to four weeks! They are a real scruffy bunch now with the adult feather coming though. They sit on the bank or the deck now pulling out old feathers. Happily mum and dad are still here and looking at the feathers today I’m quite confident if they buggered off again we’d be fine.

You're not kidding. Just nipped out to the shop and ended up shooing them off down the drive so I didn't flatten them with the car. Meanwhile Egwina and Duncan sat watching.

Also had an unknown couple turn up at the end of the drive earlier to see them. I think they threw them bread, but being rather spoiled they were disinterested 😂
