AIBU to ask you if a daily habit has transformed your life?

CarlyWarly1980 · 25/07/2020 20:27

Just that, really..
Do you have a daily habit that has transformed your life for the better? A friend recommended a book along these lines but am I being unreasonable to think a daily habit can't really transform your life?
My friend has said the new habit of drinking water and putting on mascara every day helps her feel confident and think clearer improved her skin and helps her concentration. So I'm asking others on here AIBU to think one habit done daily can't really "change" your life?

@ThatsHowWeRowl

Podcasts while doing housework.

Smoothie for breakfast every work day, and taking a multivitamin every day.

A bit of proper skin care every morning (hyaluronic acid onto damp skin, moisturiser and sunscreen, glycolic acid every other day).

Have got into a bit of yoga each day too.

Am going to try to leaving your phone downstairs to charge thing I think....

@ThatsHowWeRowl which podcast was it? going to listen today

I’m loving this thread and am nearly a week into my Wim Hof breathing and cold showers and my 4 pints of water per day and feeling great on it, and planning to start more soon - probably miracle morning.

Is anyone using a habit tracking app? I think tracking is really helpful. I’ve tried doing this in a bullet journal but go through phases of using it and not using it - I think an app would work much better for me. Any suggestions?

CleanQueen123 · 04/08/2020 12:38

I'm loving this. Keep the tips coming folks!

I've started 16/8 and feel so much better for it. I've massively upped my water intake and switched to meat free a few days a week.

I've also bought a guided journal. I'm currently having counselling and want something to take over from that when I'm done.

Regular exercise is still alluding me. I do yoga or get on the exercise bike a few times a week and try to do a big walk one day but daily exercise isn't happening.

CarlyWarly1980 · 04/08/2020 21:22

Wow!! Totally blown away by how many posts this has had and really, really enjoyed hearing about all the changes we've been making! I have started a habit tracker and I'm even colouring in a section of a picture every time I am good. I've paid myself £5 every time I exercise and I've got a nice stash of money to treat myself at the end of the month. I'm not going to lie though, I haven't managed to do it all. But I'm trying and that's more than I was doing a month ago!!

Oh!!! And I've stuck to no alcohol Mon - Friday, too! It's been hard but I think I'm feeling better for it! ⛔

I fell off the wagon yesterday - back to it tomorrow.

CallingAllEngels · 05/08/2020 14:11

@boatyardblues

I looked on YouTube - there are so many Adrienne videos, I just wondered if there’s somewhere it says “on day 1 do this one, on day 2 do this one.” Perhaps there’s a 30 day collection further down the list. It was knowing where to get started I want help with.
boatyardblues I found that the 20 minutes for beginners video was the best to just get me started to knowing what different instructions were.

She has lots of 30 day series (which started with the 30 days of yoga series you posted). My favourite is True (which I try to do every summer holiday). Others are Dedicate, Home, Revolution, Yoga Camp.

AussieSue · 05/08/2020 15:30

Great thread, thanks to everyone for their input 😊
As inspired by many of you, I'm going to

 1. Yoga every day
 2. Drink more water
 3. 10 minute tidy daily
Ringsender2 · 07/08/2020 13:27

@newandimprovednorks you mention going from drawing nothing to drawing every day. Did you follow a course or just get stuck in?

NewAndImprovedNorks · 07/08/2020 14:23
@newandimprovednorks you mention going from drawing nothing to drawing every day. Did you follow a course or just get stuck in?
I went on a once a week course at college for one term, but to be honest, just getting stuck in and doing it is the best.
At the start I kept telling myself that it didn’t matter HOW crap it was, because that would show progress even better.

Themadcatparade · 07/08/2020 14:29

Checking my finances daily. Not missed a payment all year (usually it’s my phone bill or something daft).Obsessively shifting money in to our savings. Multiple pots of savings now, including bank accounts and different isas.

Over the course of lockdown we have saved thousands just from not travelling In To work and unnecessary spending. We are now half way in to a house deposit!!

FourPlasticRings · 07/08/2020 14:47

This is a great thread. I need to get my backside in gear!

GinDrinker00 · 07/08/2020 15:11

Drinking water has helped me, also reading before night helps calm my anxiety.

justchecking1 · 07/08/2020 19:47

@Allyg1185 which probiotic have you found helps with the UTIs? I'm getting lots at the moment and it's miserable

Morgana7 · 08/08/2020 07:58

@justchecking1 check out reviews for something called D-Manosse powder. I used to be plagued with UTIs for years but I haven’t had one for about 6 years now after taking it for a few months.

Thedevilofsmallthings · 08/08/2020 08:07

Flossing before brushing my teeth.

elstree2020 · 08/08/2020 08:59

Not staying up late for any tv programme, so having a consistent sleep time. IPlayer is my friend.

Topsyandtimison37 · 09/08/2020 06:37

The organised mum method has completely transformed my life. I use this cleaning method (slightly tweaked) and it's now a habit as I have to get the levels completed before the end of the week or I don't feel right. It's made my life better because I have loads more time for other things and don't over clean.

SurreyHillsGirl · 09/08/2020 07:23

Green nutribullet everyday, load it with fresh organic greens and I cheat with frozen carrots and blueberries, add turmeric, chia, ground flaxseed. Quick, easy super good for me

Making my bed, opening the blinds, taking water glasses from the night from my bedside table before to the dishwasher

Taking my dogs for an early morning walk, nature is even more beautiful in early light. Followed by..

Heavy weights session, followed by yoga, practiced in the garden as much as possible.

Taking magnesium and a vitamin targeted at hair and skin everyday

Massaging almond oil into my skin am and pm. My skin looks great at 46

WFH at the moment but usually commute so always get my outfit for the next day ready the night before, pack my food for the day so that I eat healthily

Listen to ASMR before bed. I have done this for years and always sleep so deeply

Reading everyday, mainly factual books, I love learning about all manner of random stuff

AlrightTreacle · 11/08/2020 11:31

I've just sat with a pint of water (a developing habit) and read this whole thread, it's such a nice and positive one! I've made notes as I've gone through it, and will download the "atomic habit" to listen to on my daily walk; habit from lockdown that I've tried to keep up, it makes me feel so much better mentally.

My habit suggestion is to make your lunch for work the night before, and then leave your handbag by the fridge so you don't forget in the morning.

Never staying up late for tv once Iplayer came along. Much less tiredness.

KatherineParr4 · 15/08/2020 12:51

I have looked at the Organised Mum Method but can't see how to sign up for it. How do I know what to do each day?
