AIBU to ask you if a daily habit has transformed your life?

Just that, really..
Do you have a daily habit that has transformed your life for the better? A friend recommended a book along these lines but am I being unreasonable to think a daily habit can't really transform your life?
My friend has said the new habit of drinking water and putting on mascara every day helps her feel confident and think clearer improved her skin and helps her concentration. So I'm asking others on here AIBU to think one habit done daily can't really "change" your life?

Daily prayer/ meditation

OryxNotCrake · 25/07/2020 20:32

Daily exercise. I usually do a workout before work and I really love it - it sets me up for the day.

Yeahyoureright · 25/07/2020 20:32

Taking my vitamins every morning after finding out I was low in lots of things causing my extreme fatigue. I never miss them now

BigBadVoodooHat · 25/07/2020 20:34

Yoga & meditation. Changed me immensely by making me feel more competent, more capable, and calmer, and improved my health (as a by-product, I lost weight, am physically stronger, sleep better, am less overwhelmed and frantic, eat more healthily).

It’s not necessarily the habit itself that creates the change, it’s the shift in mindset that follows from committing to something and taking responsibility for your health and happiness that makes all the difference.

BarbedBloom · 25/07/2020 20:34

Meditation. Also drinking a lot of water, i notice the difference in my skin when I don't. Lastly, pilates, I have rheumatoid arthritis so a lot of exercise is out for me, but this has really helped with maintaining some flexibility

bravefox · 25/07/2020 20:34

Charging my phone in the kitchen at night and relying on an alarm clock to wake up. Sounds stupid but if you've tried it, you'll know what I mean...

HUCKMUCK · 25/07/2020 20:35

A morning routine has made heaps of difference to me but only since lockdown. I have a very flexible job and wfh now ful time time - even before covid I worked from home several days per week.

If I follow my morning routine I am more productive, better set up for the day and just more settled.

It isn't very complicated but includes time to sit and make a list of what I need to achieve for the day, have some quiet time with a book or some music and drink plenty of water.

ponderingitall · 25/07/2020 20:38

@Yeahyoureright which vitamins do you take please?

Manolin · 25/07/2020 20:39

I am an early riser, it is built into me. Making getting up at 05:00 a strict daily discipline as I have got older has enabled me to achieve much more. On work days I have achieved by noon things I could never achieve if I started a few hours later.

Hoggleludo · 25/07/2020 20:39

Drinking water and mindfulness

People are so catty nowadays. You can’t ask a question without people saying it’s intrusive. Or people are sarcastic when you’re trying to help. So this helps me massively when I can still very occasionally get hurt by people’s harsh words. I volunteer with the homeless and they are just awesome people. I adore them. They are kind. Full of love. Genuinely nice people who’ve come down on hard times.

The big one though. Not giving w fuck what people on the internet think. I used to get so wound up by what is faceless people who don’t mean anything to me. In turn that helped me not care what people who I know think of me. That’s been huge in my life.

Yes I am a firm believer in the power of habit. Everything you do is habit- if you have 10 biscuits with your tea, if you snack after lunch, if you walk 2 miles a day, if you buy a coffee every time you pass Costa.
The small changes you make all add up. I firmly believe that small changes compound to large differences.
You might enjoy reading them compound effect’ Darren Hardy, if you are interested in changing small habits to add to a big change.

Glitterkitten24 · 25/07/2020 20:43

@Manolin would you share the details of your morning routine? I aspire to a morning routine and am working on it..,

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 25/07/2020 20:44

Tidying up a room for 10 minutes every day. And learning to throw stuff out. Absolute life changer. In fact, i got rid of so much unnecessary clutter i was able to start a business from home. I never knew i had the space until i got rid of stuff.

Supersimkin2 · 25/07/2020 20:46

Snack 'n' snuggle with the cat after breakfast. 15 minutes of strokes and chat - Dreamies and coffee issued - sets us both up for the day.

Elasticate · 25/07/2020 20:50

Not eating after 7pm. Sleep better, wake up fresher.

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 25/07/2020 20:52

Glitterkitten that books not available on Kindle are you aware of any others that are similar?

TheGirlWithAPrince · 25/07/2020 21:02

Water, Tinted moisteriser, mascara, Meditation every morning, waking at least 30 minutes before the kids, relaxing music in the morning, a jog in the morning, a very light breakfast.

Goatinthegarden · 25/07/2020 21:04

Adding flaxseed to my breakfast every day has done wonders for my, erm, digestive system.

Silvercatowner · 25/07/2020 21:17

Taking pro-biotics has transformed my digestive system.

CrazyToast · 25/07/2020 21:19

Yoga and mediation, and taking vitamins.

puzzledpiece · 25/07/2020 21:21

Porridge for breakfast. Good all round. 😀

Manolin · 25/07/2020 21:24

@Glitterkitten24

04:50 Gently wake, stretch and look at the sunrise bouncing on the walls (doesn't work in winter)
05:00 Swing out of bed, throw jeans and shirt on, grab phone walk downstairs, flood the house with light (open all curtains if winter, summer they stay open at night). Put phone on charge, turn computer, printer, etc on and fire up software and start running any new updates. Get preparation out of the way.
05:10 Fill and boil kettle and make tea
05:15 Open doors and windows to let some fresh dawn air in (during May it was warm already), quick walk round garden, chickens out, check all is well outside, drink tea in garden observing nature. Hoe the flower and veg beds as it cools.
05:45 Go into office and start work, get one big piece done first, Farming Today on radio in background (I am not a farmer)
08:00 Wake everyone else with tea, make lunch for later and have breakfast
08:30 Work through to 13:00 (grab a coffee some days around 11:00)
13:00 Lunch and open post
13:30 Start work again
17:00 Finish
17:00 House chores, tea in garden, garden chores, start dinner, family time
19:30 Dinner, relax
22:30 Bed

Winter routine is similar but less time drinking tea in the garden!
Weekends start at 05:00 but not normally 'work-work', but I still take tea round at 08:00, 09:00 in winter.

We drink a lot of tea I realise.

user1493413286 · 25/07/2020 21:25

Getting up 10 minutes earlier to have a cup of tea and slowly wake up; mentally prepare myself for the day compared to alarm going off and rushing into the shower and into work. I start the day much happier and more together.

Fruitteatime · 25/07/2020 21:29

What is the book please? My life if full of bad habits.

ElsieBeard · 25/07/2020 21:38

When lockdown started I began getting up early and taking my cup of tea into the garden. .just sitting and listening to the dawn chorus. it helped me sleep better and set me up for the day. recently I have just had an operation and now struggle to get up early and I really miss it.
