To ask you about the worst mistake you've made at work?

800caloriesofwine · 12/06/2020 17:57

Terrible, terrible day.
Please tell me the worst mistakes you've made in the workplace.
Mine were sending £6,000 of dental implants to the wrong dentist, two days before they were due to be placed in someone's mouth.
Also writing the wrong patient down as dead.

OP posts:
Herecomethehotstepper · 12/06/2020 18:58

Some of these are awful 😢

RedRec · 12/06/2020 18:58

The one about hurting the lady's leg in the care home is hideous. Actually abusive. @Crystaltree you should be utterly ashamed of yourself, you horrible cow.

HeyMicky · 12/06/2020 18:59

I worked for Sky, managing their social media feeds. During the Levenson inquiry, I posted to my Facebook, "Ever noticed how Murdoch and James and Mr Burns and Smithers are never seen together in the same room?"

Yep, onto the corporate account

Microwaveoven · 12/06/2020 18:59

@Crystaltree don't come back with more stories. You can't redeem yourself!

Busydrinkingcoffee1 · 12/06/2020 19:00

Was being mean about my manager on email and then was off on holiday and he had to access my emails and found the whole chain 😩 Another manager called me to let me know and I had to call him and apologise, most awkward phone call ever! It was years ago and I felt awful for years after thinking about how he must have felt reading it, I keep my thoughts to myself now!!

Loving some of these, although CrystalTree yours is shocking and not a mistake but abuse and it sounds like Care isn't the industry for you

Holeywalls · 12/06/2020 19:02

Wtf @Crystaltree you are an awful person! You don’t deserve to work with the elderly. Scum.

topcat2014 · 12/06/2020 19:02

Oblomov20 what happened to your boss though

Nothing I assume

I am embarrassed to be an FD sometimes

sweetheartyparty · 12/06/2020 19:02

One of my team had wrote an unjustified and lengthy complaint letter about the rest of the team. I accidentally left it on the printer and it was found by said members of the team. It was awful

GertrudeCB · 12/06/2020 19:03

Sent a text slagging off my line manager
........to my line manager.
Zero regrets, she was a twat.

teenagetantrums · 12/06/2020 19:03

I worked in a bank many years ago and was processing loan payments. I paid someone their sort code instead of loan amount. So they basically got £40k extra in thier bank. Luckily they were very nice and agreed to pay it back .my manager was not happy

SpillTheTeaa · 12/06/2020 19:04

I'm a dental nurse and we got sent the wrong implant for a patient before! Was it you OP? 😂.

LizzieMacQueen · 12/06/2020 19:04

Not me but I was sent a pdf which should have just had my client's P60. I was accidentally sent the file with everyone's P60. There were over 300 employees. Oops.

duedatemistake · 12/06/2020 19:05

Oh no that poor old lady
Replace old lady with toddler maybe crystaltree and imagine it’s your child it’s no different

LoveofAvalon · 12/06/2020 19:06

Almost caused a diplomatic incident.

cstaff · 12/06/2020 19:06

In my first job I managed to clear the computer of everything and I mean everything - documents and all computer programs we used. I rang my friend in IT and all she could do was laugh. It was 5.20 on a Friday evening so I didn't sleep all weekend.

UbercornsGoggles · 12/06/2020 19:07

I flooded a pub basement with beer

elephantoverthehill · 12/06/2020 19:08

LuluJakey1 The staples over ordering happened at my work too by a predecessor of mine. It ended up in us having to order staplers to fit the staples. Never in the 25 years I have worked at the place have we ever had to order new staples for the department.

missmouse101 · 12/06/2020 19:08

Injecting 5ml of insulin instead of 5 units of insulin. Also throwing away valuable but unlabelled equine bones kept for veterinary research, during a tidy up.

LellyMcKelly · 12/06/2020 19:09

Sent an email to my manager strongly questioning a colleague’s ability, detailing all the stuff they’d failed to do/shoved onto other people, and accidentally copied her in. Totally had to style it out. To be fair, she got a lot better after that and it was something the manager should have been performance managing well before it got it that.

Ruth2009 · 12/06/2020 19:11

@notreallybotheredaboutausernam
She didn't seem to mind, looking back she was a bit surprised Grin. She was deaf as a post so communication difficult
Strangely enough a week or so later, she came onto our books.
I got a telling off from the neighbour of the lady I missed. I felt sick when I realised what I'd done.
It taught me to check addresses carefully

StCharlotte · 12/06/2020 19:12

I got drunk and flashed my tits after being there for 2 weeks. First ever “proper” job, they extended my probation but kept me for 3 years until I was made redundant. Definitely a lesson learnt 😁 totally just outed myself....

Not necessarily... Blush

GivenchyDahhling · 12/06/2020 19:12

One I was (sort of) on the receiving end of.

When I was at university I interned for an MP (lowly back bench, marginal seat, tiny majority, only lasted one term). He'd raised some money for a charity and sent an email to the charity offering to put something on his website and Twitter, bit of publicity etc, and someone from the charity accidentally replied saying something along the lines of, 'he's raised fuck all money and no idea who the fuck he is'.

Boy oh boy did his ego not like that. We did get a very tail-between-the-legs apology fairly swiftly afterwards.

waterjungle · 12/06/2020 19:12

I once took an entire television station off air with a single push of a button.
While a live exclusive interview was being broadcast.
In front of my boss.
Still feel sick thinking about it.

Coffeecak3 · 12/06/2020 19:13

Not noticing that a patients details had come up with a different name when entering blood tests on the system. For 30 long minutes the consultant believed a young woman had gone home whilst suffering from acute leukaemia.
I got a very restrained bollocking for that.

Pambalambalam · 12/06/2020 19:13

@Crystaltree that’s horrible, not only injuring the poor woman and covering it up but just even removing her from the room because she was annoying you is awful. It was her home and she was ill with dementia! You were being paid to care for her. You don’t sound very sorry either, I don’t think you realise how bad what you did actually is otherwise you wouldn’t be presenting it as a funny story. Horrific. Shame on you.
