Worried about elderly neighbour

I'm really concerned about my neighbour. Her dog has been barking for over an hour, and he's usually really placid and only barks if someone is at the door. I know she's in because her car is there (she isn't too steady on her pins so always takes the car) but she's not answering the door...

I had a quick look through the living room window, but I couldn't see anything, except that the tv is on.

I've just called the police (non-emergency) to see what they suggested, and they're going to send someone over. I'm just so worried she's fallen, or worse, and I can't get in to help!

Feeling very helpless Sad

Could you post a pic of Frank? Smile

CaptainCallisto · 12/07/2016 22:20

I'll definitely be her falls contact if she goes down that route. It'd be a weight off all round I think! At the very least I'm going to ask if she minds us having a key.

It's one of those things that just didn't occur to me until I was standing outside with Frank going mad, and couldn't get in. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and all that...

Aw, Callisto, I have tears in my eyes. You did brilliantly tonight. And you're so kind, looking after Frank. We could all do with neighbours like you. FlowersWine.

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 12/07/2016 22:25

Well done Captain Flowers

OnionKnight · 12/07/2016 22:25

Well done for calling the police OP.

We had a similar situation last week, we could see that a neighbour with severe arthritis had fallen and was stuck, we broke the door down and calling an ambulance. She was grateful that we didn't hang about as she was in a lot of pain.

Obliviated · 12/07/2016 22:28

My grandad had a fall during the night, unfortunately no one was due round that day until late after. He died. You've very possibly saved her life Flowers

desperatehousewife2 · 12/07/2016 22:28

Well done OP! Everyone should have a neighbour like you. That's what makes a community

Andrewofgg · 12/07/2016 22:29

It's neighbours like you who make the world go round!

Ditsy4 · 12/07/2016 22:30

Pat on the back from me too. Good ole Frank. Dogs are so intelligent. An hour is nothing. My friend is a carer and arrived and was suspicious of a client. She got the police but they were so slow responding she ended up breaking in and lucky she did the man had been lying all night and was nearly dead. His family were so grateful.

CaptainCallisto · 12/07/2016 22:32

Here's Frank! He's settled in his basket now having a well earned snooze!

Glad you were there to help your neighbour too onion and hope she's making a swift recovery.

Op you are an amazing neighbour. Well done. Give Frank a huge pat on the head as well!

Doggity · 12/07/2016 22:43

You're a great neighbour and so kind to have Frank. I bet she'd have been worrying about him otherwise. I would strongly suggest she gets a key safe instead of giving you a key. So, even if you're out or unavailable, someone else can be given the code and get in quickly. It's less pressure and worry for you if you're out or uncontactable.

Flowers for you and lots of doggy Biscuit for Frank.

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/07/2016 22:49

What do you mean Here's Frank?

I clicked hoping for a photo.

LewisFanIsBack · 12/07/2016 22:50

well done OP

my nan had a fall and was calling out in her mid terrace house. She had Dementia and the neighbours thought she was just being weird... she had fallen in the early hours and was lying on the floor with a broken hip. She wasn't found until 9am the NEXT MORNING.

She never recovered from the hip replacement and I still think of her lying alone, freezing cold ALL NIGHT because her fucking neighbours refused to call us to just check on her

so... thank you for taking the time to care and check

trappedinsuburbia · 12/07/2016 22:57

Its scary isnt it, I had to call police for my neighbour who had passed away during the night (no fall, just slipped away) after her carers couldn't get in. Always be a nosy neighbour when it comes to this stuff, well done OP you actually acted quite quickly, hope your neighbour recovers Flowers

CaptainCallisto · 12/07/2016 23:01

There should be a picture bear. Hang on, I'll try again!

Frank made me cry! He looks so lovely and he knows he is safe with you. Well done you!

hollyisalovelyname · 12/07/2016 23:07

Oh OP well done Flowers
You are a great neighbour.
Isn't the dog a hero!!!

Arriettyborrower · 12/07/2016 23:12

Oh my days, he is a darling!

Echoing other posters, an hour is not long at all, you did a great job (and Frank obviously) calling 111 straight away, you have undoubtedly improved her chances. A long lie post fall can severely hamper repair and recovery, keeping all crossed that your neighbour is back to full health as soon as x

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/07/2016 23:14

Oh he's an old boy.

Where is he sleeping?

LyndaNotLinda · 12/07/2016 23:15

Well done Callisto and well done Frank! What a pair of heroes you are.

Hope you both have a restful night and neighbour is back home again ASAP.

NeedACleverNN · 12/07/2016 23:17

Oh bless him. Look at those white whiskers!

Brilliant dog

shadowfax07 · 12/07/2016 23:20

What a gorgeous boy!

heavenlypink · 12/07/2016 23:21

Frank looks exhausted but content
Well done Captain for following your instincts and calling the police FlowersWine
