So I am looking after my friends 3 year old for the weekend.
I'd just like to point out, before I post the wonderful things that have happened since yesterday, that I do actually have children.
3 in fact.

I point that out because after reading this, you might be forgiven for thinking I have no clue about children what so ever Grin

So...she arrives at 5pm. Lovely, lovely girl. Lovely mum who for some reason thinks I am trustworthy, drops her off without a fuss.

Oh dear god.

All is well for a while. We eat dinner, she eats it all up. And dessert. I am cleaning the kitchen, I turn around and she is eating the dogs food out of his bowl.
And then told me the doggies dinner is very tasty Grin

We are watching tv later on and I ask my ds1 to keep an eye on her while I make a cup of tea.
I come back, she is in the dogs bed.

She wants to play hide and seek. So she hides.
Can I find her? No.
Can the DCs find her? No.

Im about to call the fucking police because clearly she has disappeared when she pops out from a bush in the garden covered head to foot in mud.

We give her a bath, got her pjs on. I go to make her a hot chocolate. I turn round and find her sitting in a cupboard. Of course, I notice she is in there the very second I shut the cupboard door. On her head.

I put her to bed on the little bed in my room.

I go to bed as well because I know if I am not sitting there looking at her, something will happen.

I wake up, an hour ago. She is asleep in the dogs bed.

She just said to me "I had so much fun auntie tantrums. I are doggies dinner, you lost me, I got very dirty and sleeped in the doggy bed. And you shut me in the cupboard"
She found it all hysterically funny.

She's going to go home and tell her mum all of that isn't she??
Is there any way at all I can put a positive spin on this??

I very doubt my friend is ever going to talk to me again, let alone trust me with her child.

The funniest Zombie thread. Did the dog's take it well?

stayingpositiveifpossible · 08/07/2022 11:11

stayingpositiveifpossible · 08/07/2022 11:12

my great aunt used to cook the same for us and the dogs it was lovely !

Biddie191 · 11/09/2023 12:17

Ten years on, your friend needs to show this to her daughter any time she's getting a bit full of herself!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 11/09/2023 18:26

oh 10 years, she will be 16 now, Grin

MNetcurtains · 15/09/2023 16:16

Just trawling 'classics' and came across this thread. Absolutely adorable. Would love to hear what has happened in the intervening 10 years.

Omg proper made me chuckle, 🤣 sounds like everyone is having fun, poor dog got no bed but I'm sure like mine he will sleep anywhere, if she has trouble staying in your room can you not put dog bed in your room, maybe for her it's a comfort. At least you won't have to keep waking up to check she's still there, I'm sure the mother will understand as my son's the same. Good luck only few days of it 😆

Towwanthustice · 29/12/2023 18:59

This is actually how my dd was at that age.
Once ate cat food..
She would climb any where and every where and once climbed on top of the moving checkout.
She would always hide in supermarkets and I'd never be able to find her.
Shed hide in cupboards and tried to get into the washing.machine.
Ne wonder her poor mother needs a break lol.
My daughter also sleeps ANYWHERE but her lovely double bed, so I wouldn't worry about the dog bed.
Her mother probably thinks all kids are like this and she didn't need to come with a waning lol

LouHey · 29/12/2023 18:59

It sounds like she's had loads of fun! I'm sure her Mum will agree. Stop stressing, she's in one piece - albeit covered in green pen.

Towwanthustice · 29/12/2023 19:01

Just realised this post is 10 years old lol

Polly7122 · 29/12/2023 19:35

Dibdob27 · 29/12/2023 19:54

I look after 3 year olds and she is one curious child!! I would phone Mum and tell her jokingly. Ask her if she has a dog and then go from there!!

GenevièveSapha · 29/12/2023 20:03

Why the 'D' in front of H, D, S, C... ???

INeverForgetAFaceButInYourCaseIdLikeTo · 29/12/2023 20:06

The original post is over 10 years old. The kid will be 13 by now

GenevièveSapha · 29/12/2023 20:07

You need to tell your friend first, before her daughter does... if your friend takes it the wrong way, she may report you to CPS... and the police... just say'n... you never know...

I've just signed up as I could not resist replying to this. Absolutely hilarious, you poor, poor woman! I have nothing useful to suggest, but if it was me, I'd probably change my name and move counties 😂😂😂. Maybe if you tell her mum the truth and get ds1 to back you up, perhaps this is normal behaviour and mum won't be that surprised? She'll probably be mortified at her child showing her up anyway. Do let us know how you get on. I am sorry at your misfortune, but at the same time, I've been ill for 4 weeks with a chest infection and currently 12 weeks pregnant, and this post has made me laugh so hard that I've both cried and peed a little!! Made my day Xx

If you tap on 'see all' on the OP you'll see all her comments including when the mum came back.
