... to come out with this little gem:

"If you're happy and you know it, can you really show it?"

He is pretty amazing Smile he has AS, and sometimes can seem really distant. Then he says something like that, and I don't worry so much.

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops · 04/12/2011 10:38

I have a degree in philosophy and am inclined to agree, it sounds like there are a few real genius's out there!

DD (8) a couple of years ago announced one day that "you know what they say the bigger the book the more the pages" to this day I cannot remember what it was we were talking about for this to come out but dh and I still say it occasionally when we can't think of a better answer.

DD when she was about 2, after studiously studying an aquarium for several minutes, announced 'fish not cry'

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops · 04/12/2011 15:15

Apparently the do yawn though!

When my DD was about 5 or 6 she went through a phase of not settling at night. After a few weeks she told me it was because she was afraid of forever "because it never ends"!!!

warzonemummy · 04/12/2011 15:31

I had such a not so wonderful day and this made me just smile. You all have some wonderful kids.

flyingspaghettimonster · 04/12/2011 16:56

Lovely thread. Not deep, but it did make me smile this morning when my 7 year old DD said 'Mommy, can we hold you rfuneral on your birthday?' I asked why on earth she wanted to do that and she said 'well you told me that at a funeral everybody plays your favourite music and says nice things about you, then has a party afterwards to celebrate your life. So I thought we should do that for your birthday'.

spiderpig8 · 04/12/2011 19:07

6 YO DD - if a piece of music hasn't been composed, does it exist or not?

Pursang · 04/12/2011 19:26

Grandmother, to 4 year old cousin: 'you can have a bike when you're the same age as (older sister)'

cousin: But I'll never be as old as sister. I'll always be one year and three months younger than her.

Me: Shock

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops · 04/12/2011 21:52

Goodness, these are really profound!

Spiderpig - what was your answer?

DS (then 4) once asked 'why do some people believe in science?' ME: what? DS: 'well some people think a big bang created the world - when we all know god did'

Hmm well he didn't get that from me!

MarthasHarbour · 04/12/2011 22:25

not profound at all but my DS took ages to start talking properly (now we cant shut him up Grin )

However the first ever question he asked me was when we shared a bath, he looked all panicked and asked me in a right stressed out voice

'oh no mummy where your winky gone?'

he had only ever said 'cat and car' before that! Wink

ScarlettIsWalking · 04/12/2011 22:30

The subject of war came on the news one day 5 yo dd said to me today that she would ask all the men to put their guns back in the cases and their knives away (??!) and stop the war and tell people to live together and be friends.

She also said when she was 2 she once saw god in the sky

Cherriesarelovely · 04/12/2011 22:38

Agreed, what an absolutely brilliant thread. Have just stared doing some philosophy with my Year 2s at school, they are fantastic and quite naturally philosophical as this thread proves!

bushymcbush · 04/12/2011 22:53

Not so much philosophical this one but political:

When DD was just turned 2 she asked DH where the aeroplane they were watching in the sky was going. DH answered "I don't know. Maybe America." DD replied "Can't say America ... America dangerous."

bushymcbush · 04/12/2011 22:57

DD also showed some grasp of Shroedingers (sp?) cat question when she and DH were watching a cat in the street, which then walked behind a wall. DD - "Where is the cat?" DH - "Behind the wall." DD "I can't believe you!"

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops · 04/12/2011 23:03

Just Googled Shrodinger's cat. I don't get it. Confused

bushymcbush · 05/12/2011 09:09

Loopy - it's a little bit like the old conundrum: 'if a tree falls over in the middle of a forest and nobody hears it, did it make a sound?' It just questions whether things actually exist outside if our perception of them. A very ego-centric view if you ask me.

bushymcbush · 05/12/2011 09:10

... outside of our perception ...

neilyourbedroomsonfire · 05/12/2011 09:39

5 yo DD: "Mummy, when you die can I have your car?"
4 yo DD: "Don't be silly! That car will be squashed into a square by the time our mum dies"

spiderpig8 · 05/12/2011 16:38

Spiderpig - what was your answer?

'I don't know, I'll have to think about it'
