I'm not being weird thinking this is a bit odd, am I?

Went to the shop to pick up some bits, and when the lady was packing my bag she asked me if it was ok to snap a baguette in half so it would fit in the shopping bag. She then added, 'or you could have it sticking out of the bag,' in a tone that seemed to say that letting it stick out would be pure madness.

It's not angered me or anything, I'm just wondering if it's odd for shop staff to essentially, cheerfully offer to damage shopping for their customers.

I declined, and put it under my pram. She seemed a tiny bit put out that I didn't take her up on her practical offer.

It was weird, right?

I fold a bagette up all the time to get it in my drinks holder on the bike when i cycle home - otherwise it pokes me where it shouldn't.

So no I don't think its weird - possible the shop assistant rides a bike and has been watching Mary Portas and was thinking abstractly that you may cycle and poke yourself soemwhere if it wasn't folded - even though you had a pram with you

One of these is clearly what is missing in our lives.

Problem solved.

I wonder how long it will be before someone tells her that a baguette snapping service isn't required?

Thank you for this thread - it inspired me to order a baguette bag (arrived this am, v. speedy delivery - but different website).
I'm going to use mine to transport rolls of flipchart paper.

What confuses me is that in the picture of the baguette bag, the baguette still doesn't properly fit all the way in...

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/01/2011 14:51

After reading this thread I just had to karate chop my baguette after purchasing.

When Im feeling really daring im going to stand infront of the baguette shelves and helpfully snap peoples baguettes for them. Im wondering if I would need a bucket or a jam jar for my tips?

TryingVeryHard · 01/02/2011 15:56

Ferret, I hope you don't shop where I do as I would take this rather personally - if I wanted a short baguette surely I would buy one?!?! Wink

I haven't laughed so much in ages...tears of mirth rolling down my face....absolutely hilarious...and I fear I will burst into laughter next time I am baguette buying!!!!

I've seen people snap their own baguettes, but it's certainly personal choice and no-one should be acting like not snapping is strange.
