Last chance to nominate - who's helped to promote body confidence in children this year?

Hello

Some of you might remember that we've joined up with the Campaign for Body Confidence, to try to reduce the pressure on all of us to look perfect and to promote a more positive body image - particularly among children and young people. You can find out more about the campaign here.

Supportive parliamentarians have now formed a cross-party forum to look into body image anxiety in the UK, and they'll be reporting back later this year. In the meantime, the two groups are launching the Body Confidence Awards, celebrating the contribution of individuals, organisations and companies who've helped to promote body confidence over the last year.

We're very pleased to announce that we'll be there on the night, to present the Mumsnet Award for promoting body confidence in children.

Could you help us out by getting your thinking caps on, and letting us know who you think deserves the award? Feel free to think creatively - the winner could be a product or an organisation, but it could equally be an individual or even a TV or book character.

Please leave your suggestions on the thread - the one with the most mentions wins the gong!

Gok Wan

CMOTDibbler · 28/02/2012 19:36

Cerrie from Cbeebies as a great role model of someone with a visible disability who doesn't cover it up

If the category includes teens, Katie Piper for the 'My beautiful friends' series, which I know had a very positive effect for my friends son who is struggling to think about going to uni with a very obvious facial disfigurement, and this series showed him that there were others dealing with it too

EdnaClouds · 28/02/2012 19:44

Yes, Gok Wan.

monkeyroo · 28/02/2012 19:58

Another vote here for Pink Stinks. One or two women (I think) working from home whilst juggling real lives but doing it because they feel passionately about the issue and want to do something about it.
I love Gok (that's GOK I love, just in case you misheard me Smile) but I've only seen him working his magic on adults.

TunipTheVegemal · 28/02/2012 20:15

Pink Stinks, definitely.

How about Helen Skelton from Blue Peter? She has been showing how our bodies can be strong and powerful, and image is irrelevant...

Peekabooooo · 28/02/2012 20:46

Re: Gok Wan - he has a programme called 'Gok's Teens:The Naked Truth' on channel 4. He has also ran a campaign to get body confidence taught for an hour each year on the secondary school national curriculum.

Another one for Gok Wan. I think the channel 4 programme he did aimed at teens ought to be compulsory viewing for anyone who is, has or will have a teenager.

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 28/02/2012 21:10

I would second Cerrie from Cbeebies. She had a lot of backlash at the start and is one of tge few disabled presenters of tv full stop.

CatitaInaHatita · 28/02/2012 21:26

A vote for Pink Stinks for me too.

weblette · 28/02/2012 21:34

Pink Stinks and Ellie Simmonds. Like Gok's teen stuff, really positive love yourself message.

MrsShrekTheThird · 28/02/2012 22:06

I'm pleased some other people have also said this because I came to vote for cerrie of cbeebies too. I also saw the Gok teen programme and although it didn't instantly spring to my mind when i read the question, I agree it was amazing for a positive message.

BeanutPutter · 28/02/2012 22:17

Pink stinks here for me. A great resource.

lisad123 · 28/02/2012 22:36

Cerrie from cbeebies for us

sarahbanshee · 29/02/2012 01:48

Another vote for the amazing Pink Stinks - it is as previous posters have said two women running it all from their bedrooms for nothing and it has changed corporates' policies and had a huge impact for it's size.

cornsilkalala · 29/02/2012 05:41

Gok

TeaTowelQueen · 29/02/2012 09:15

Cerrie from CBeebies, Ellie Simmonds, and the wonderful Gok, I loved his teen series best of all, useful for parents as well as children.

Oh and Adele, what a fabulous talent, grounded, dedicated and doesn't fit the pop stereotype on many different levels.

hippoCritt · 29/02/2012 09:16

Not a huge fan of Gok but his teen programme has been great for my dds. Eldest bought foundation recently and commented it wasn't going to make her look airbrushed like the adverts, he really seems to have got through to them even though he has said the same things as I have been saying!

NinthWave · 29/02/2012 12:28

Pink Stinks, definitely. I haven't seen Gok's teen programme but was never a fan of his 'truss yourself up with underwear, breathe in and buy a big belt' approach to self-confidence Hmm

ouryve · 29/02/2012 16:30

I'd nominate Cerrie from CBeebies. I suspect others have already, since this thread's been around for a while.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 29/02/2012 16:38

How about "Mr Tumble" from CeeBeebies - I think he does a fab job for all those children with special needs and their body confidence Smile - and also very supportive of the whole family

mellowcat · 29/02/2012 18:45

I'd nominate Jabadao
