I have just read in the local paper that matalan are selling children's bras starting at size 28aa from £4.50!

I have just read checked out the campaign section of this website and see that matalan arenot part of the let girls be girls campaign but thought I would let others know that they have started selling children's bras.

eh? think my first bra was a 28aa when I was 11.

RancerDoo · 18/03/2011 17:27

My first bra was a 28aa. I was 11 or 12. I don't think that it's inappropriate to stock bras in that size for girls that age - or are they aimed at much younger girls?

Idonothaveavisacard · 18/03/2011 17:27

Why shouldn't girls wear bras when their breasts begin to develop Confused. Its bloody uncomfortable not to and girls can be very self concious when their new breasts and nipples become obvious under a t-shirt or worse, a white school shirt.

TheVisitor · 18/03/2011 17:27

I think it's the fact that they're padded bras that enhance any possible developing breasts. The padding is very comfy for those sore boobs when you're still developing, it's a little protection.

going · 18/03/2011 17:27

Girls need bras, as long as they are childrens bras for children and not adult themed bras for children it's fine.

ShatnersBassoon · 18/03/2011 17:27

I think that sounds like a regular first bra size.

GypsyMoth · 18/03/2011 17:27

how do you know that??

if we're supposed to be out raged then a link may be a good idea?

28AA says age 6 does it??

Idonothaveavisacard · 18/03/2011 17:29

I have a 6 yo. Admitedly a boy and there is no way one of my bras would fit him (not the cups obviously, just the back). I am a 28.

RancerDoo · 18/03/2011 17:29

No way would an average 6 year old be 28 inches around the ribcage.

Idonothaveavisacard · 18/03/2011 17:30

Oops he is 7 Grin. In my defence he has only just turned 7 and is small.

ShatnersBassoon · 18/03/2011 17:30

I don't know why you've mentioned the 'for £4.50!' bit either.

NettoSuperstar · 18/03/2011 17:30

DD is 9 and really could do with a bra.
She doesn't want one so I've not pushed her, she has crop tops instead.

What's wrong with a girl with developing breasts wearing a bra?

I'm sick of these threads, and the ones insisting that a moulded bra which hides nipples is padded.

clayre · 18/03/2011 17:30

The story in the paper is relating them to 6 year olds!

I forgot to say they are padded!

I never needed a bra till I was older so I have no idea what's appropriate?

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 18/03/2011 17:31

padded is good clayre!!

GlynisIsFixed · 18/03/2011 17:32

28AA is a bra size, not a 'child' size

unless it's got a picture of 'waybaloo' or 'mr tumble' on it chill out OP

Flisspaps · 18/03/2011 17:33

I think this is the story that clayre is on about (quick google search)

No prizes for guessing which paper it's in before you go to the link...Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 18/03/2011 17:33

God, I'd love a Mr Tumble bra.

BristolJim · 18/03/2011 17:35

I heard they're selling underpants for young boys as well.

The bastards.

NettoSuperstar · 18/03/2011 17:35

Padded to look like bigger breasts?, or light padding to hide nipples?

Try having a 9yr old who has started her periods and then come back with this.

Parents of younger developing children know far more than newspapers.

MikeHock · 18/03/2011 17:35

That was my first bra size at age 10.

I really needed one as well.

Very embarrassing having to get a bra at that age IIRC, so more child friendly options would have been great for me.

going · 18/03/2011 17:36

M&S also sell moulded first bras in size 28aa, presume for the same age group.

clayre · 18/03/2011 17:37

Yeah same story different bra, they must have a range!

The local paper just seems to say they are targeted at 6 year olds, maybe I should have did a bit more research before I posted, my dd is only 8 and I am I bit clueless about bras and when they start to need them.

i'm not going to click the link, i hate reading a 'daily' newspaper at this time of the day Wink

but here are the offending articles
