POLL - purely for my own curiosity - are most multiples born by C-section or vaginally?

I've never ventured on the Multiples threads, having only one, but have been pondering this for a while now and don't know enough mums of multiples to ask in RL.

BTW (in view of current happenings), I am not a journo, troll, or the like. Simply a very curious soul re anything to to do with pregnancy, birth, babies, etc.

To add to the question - if your multiples were born by C-section, what were the circumstances that led to this decision? (Early labour, presentation, etc.)

Mine were born by section. They were a transverse lie otherwise I would have gone for a vaginal birth.

In my work I see lots of vaginal twin births. Why not pop on to the d'y' ever thread (something about hamsters and the earth's core) and ask there?

My fraternal boy/girl twins were born vaginally in 47 minutes
DS2 suprised everyone in the room by coming out feet first but was very straight forward

I was unlucky and had 'best of both worlds' ie normal birth followed by a crash c section for the 2nd twin as his oxygen was cut off. Horrible.

My id twins were by emergency c-section after being induced, need I say more!! Induction was a VERY slow process and I had to be monitored the whole time and was not allowed to get up. Then had epidural, then had reaction to epidural which made me shivery and sick. Still only 5 cms dilated after 9 hrs of labour and feeling dreadful, plus they were a little worried about pre-eclampsia, I gave in and we went for an emergncy c-section. Wish I'd held off a bit on the epidural in hindsight as reckon I might have been successful without that, and I was coping well with the pain with the help of lots of gas and air [spaced out emoticon!]. Ho-hum, gonna try for natural birth with baby no 3 in Mar!!

i love the - no pain relief / my twins were the biggest/ my ordeal was the scariest pissing competitions that we all pretend aren't happening

go pain relief it's yer birthday we're gonna party like it;s yer birthday.

I think I'd have gone out of my mind without the epidural (hours and hours of back labour) - I think I asked the anaesthetist to marry me!! Epidural was my best friend.

I personally think those competitions are utter shite. Pain relief or not, you grew and gave birth to a baby. It shouldn't be "gold medal for maximum suffering, here, you get a bronze medal because you went for pain relief you wimp".

Jacks yes thanks he is fine now... has minor visual problems but that is it. The worst thing about it was that i didn't see him for 3 days, he was in NICU and I was in HDU too ill to go in a wheelchair (lost huge amounts of blood and had another op), so i had one twin with me and one on another floor gravely ill!! The main thing is that we both pulled through so I try not to dwell too much!!!

My fraternal twins (boys) were by c-section. I wanted a vaginal birth (had first son at home with about 3 cylinders of gas and air, couldn't have done it without ). Wanted same again - hollow laughter. They were both breech and I had to have a c-section. Plus I had pre-eclampsia and was in hospital for a week first, it was miserable.

My twin girls were born by C-section because of presentation - 1 was transverse & the other breach. I was booked in weeks in advance, but they had other ideas and came a day before I was due for the operation.

I must admit I was a major coward with the C-section - I was shaking the whole way through and hated the epidural. Infinitely preferred the vaginal birth of DD1.

1st set were c-section because of twin 1 being transverse.

2nd set were c-section because of no labour starting at 40 weeks and was not allowed to be induced because of previous inductions being horrid!!

Planned Csection at 37.4 weeks. All went perfectly and was it one fabulous day for Rollmops family .

ID twins, induced at 38 weeks, born vaginally but with help from ventouse.
Probably should have been by C section if they knew they had late onset of TTTS.

C-section at 36 weeks because one dd's placenta wasn't doing its job.

Emergency section at 35 weeks (after big bleed) due to placenta praevia. Picked up at 20 week scan so knew I'd probably have to have one. Nearly had a vaginal birth at 30 weeks when I went into early labour after another bleed and I watched them set up the room for delivery (including two pink/two blue birth cards - we didn't know the sex). My contractions tailed off though which was for the best in the sense that they'd have needed NICU at that gestation and would have been in hospital for a while, but SUCKED from the point of view that my eventual caesarean five weeks later was a horrible, painful, traumatic nightmare. If I ever get pregnant again I'm going to do my utmost to avoid having one again!

I had a vaginal birth for my ID twins with the help of a ventouse. The pushing can be really hard with twins because the monitoring equipment can stop you moving around. I too had an epidural and fell in love with the anaesthetist! (before falling in love with my twins of course).........
