  1. How much weight did you gain in pregnancy?
  2. How many weeks were you when you gave birth?
  3. Did you have a c section?
  4. What weights were the twins?
  5. Were you monitored throughout labour?

Thanks

LGoR - Its my first pregancy, expecting non-id girs, and I'm finishing work this week at 28 weeks. My midwife advised me not to work past 28 weeks as at this stage both babies can be 3lbs i.e. you can be as big as a singleton pregnancy at full term. I'm really pleased that she said that because I've always planned to stop now, and it's really not a moment too soon for me. I'm very tired and uncomfortable and not sleeping very well so finding working a bit of a trial. I have also been amazed at how quickly I've got bigger - at 20 weeks just had small bump, now at 27 struggle to turn over in bed at night/get up off the sofa. I've put on 13lbs so far, so it's not excessive.

Obviously it depends what sort of work you do and how far you travel etc. I commute to London 1.5 hours each way door to door, usually walk to station but now driving (finding that quite difficult now too) and sitting at desk/in meetings all day so uncomfortable causing back pain etc. A colleague who is also expecting twins planned to work until at least 33 weeks and had to stop at 30.

It's been quite easy for me to plan this way because I don't have anything to compare with, so I didn't have any expectations of myself working later, but I would suggest at least giving yourself the option of stopping earlier if you feel you need to.

  1. How much weight did you gain in pregnancy? About 2 and a half stone.
  2. How many weeks were you when you gave birth? 37 weeks.
  3. Did you have a c section? Yes, although that had been planned because I'd had a section for my last baby.
  4. What weights were the twins? 6lbs 2oz and 5lbs 8oz.
  5. Were you monitored throughout labour? I went into labour 5 days before planned section date, I was monitored for a couple of hours in labour suite until a theatre was ready for me.

LargeGlass, I always had some dried apricots and bananas by the bed in case of night hunger! I also used to carry a cheese sandwich (and bottle of water) everywhere with me cos hunger and thirst could and would strike regularly.

I gave up work at 32 weeks but went down to a four-day week at about 25 weeks, I couldn't have done five days for that long. It is very hard to sleep at the end cos you are just so uncomfortable.

Oh 1stMrsF your post brought back some memories - the not being able to turn over in bed etc. Poor you! If it's any consolation, the relief my body felt once my little darlings were out of it was instantaneous, despite the c section etc. i can remember lying there in a post-operative haze thinking 'I don't have heartburn '! I gave up work at 30 weeks and am so glad I did. I think just see how you go LargeGlass but be prepared for the fact that you may need to give up earlier than in your previous pregnancies. As this thread shows everyone has such different experiences - it's really interesting. Best of luck to you.

Weight gain: 10 kgs (don't know what that is in stones!) but it was all bump and had lost it all after 2 weeks.

Gave birth at 37 weeks

Planned c-section as both were breech (lovely experience, very calm and orderly and I was up and out about the next day, so don't worry if you need a c-section!)

Weights: identical twin girls: t1: 2040kgs (not sure what this is in pounds) and t2: 1950 kgs. Both went into transitional care as they needed help with feeding but were out after 3 days. It was actually rather nice to have help with them for those first few days as otherwise I think I might have been overwhelmed!

C-section was so quick but yes I was monitored (and throughout the pregnancy too, had 2-weekly scans as well as midwife appts).

Enjoy and it is worth all the pain and discomfort!

put on about 1 1/2 stone, weighed less 2 weeks later than when i got pregnant!
37 + 3 c-section. pre-planned (my choice) as i was concerned what would happen if there were problems with number 2. these were my 3&4th children and I couldnt stand the thought of emergency c-section having already delivered one baby. imagined being sore stomach and down below! non id boys weighed 6lb 15 and 7lb 4.

they are 6 now!

spokette · 16/02/2009 14:32
  1. Put on 4 stone (lost it all within a year - phew!!!!)
  2. 34 weeks
  3. C-section - this was imposed because doctors concerned about DT2 lack of growth
  4. 4lb 12oz and 3lb 1oz
  5. Scans weekly from 29 weeks

4lb and 4lb 5oz

neverknowinglyunderdressed · 10/04/2009 19:47

nearly 3 stone, from 9 to 12! Scary, but 2 weeks after they came out i weighed myself and found i was less than half a stone over pre p weight so was pretty much all babies.

37+2 elective section I begged them to take them out.

6lbs and 7lbs

poorbuthappy · 10/04/2009 21:02
  1. 2.5 stone - same as with dd1! All off within 1 month.
  2. 34 weeks
  3. Yep - was booked in for 36 weeks, waters broke 3am at 34 weeks. Fully dilated 30 mins after getting to hosp, tried pushing for 15 mins, Gwen decided to attempt coming down the birth canal behind my cervix so went from 10 cms to 7 cms as I was pushing! Hence section...
  4. 3lb 14 and 4lb 5
  5. Yes before section - actually had an argument with midwives about getting on the bed as I wanted to stand/squat to push
Gelamum · 27/04/2009 18:02

  1. 41 + 4 days !! but knew wld go over as singleton preg was 42 + 4 then failed induction.
  1. Yes. planned home birth then had emergency section as heartbeat of twins went too high got infection.
  1. 8lb 3 boy 6lb 3 girl
  2. no. at home with fab midwife.
