  3. Did you have a c section?
  4. What weights were the twins?
  5. Were you monitored throughout labour?

Thanks

Weight - started at 11 stone pre pregnancy and ended up being 10 after the birth but think I was around 12 at my heaviest so only aa stone.

I was 39.5 weeks when I gave birth.

I didnt have a c section - both were head down so did it as naturally as poss (epidural, ventouse!)

Both boys were 5lb 15oz (and they're non-identical not sure if thats unusual or not)

Was monitored - had a party in my labour room rather than an intimate atmosphere!

Was I induced - yes, they clearly werent comign out on their own! Had the gel but it didnt work so ended up having my waters broken.

Sullwah · 12/02/2009 14:08
  1. I lost 1.5 stone!
I was overweight by about 4st when got pregnant. I developed an aversion to anything sweet during my pregnancy and in the last three months I was too big/lethargic to go to the kitchen to get any food.
  1. How many weeks were you when you gave birth?
35
  1. Did you have a c section?
Yes
  1. What weights were the twins?
One just under and one just over 5lb
  1. Were you monitored throughout labour?
Yes - my waters broke and I was monitored until they got me a slot in theatre. I did go private - so not sure if this usual.
bellabelly · 12/02/2009 14:29

Really interesting how different everyone's answers are. here are mine

  1. How much weight did you gain in pregnancy?
About 4 and a half stone. I did eat a LOT of doughnuts though.
  1. How many weeks were you when you gave birth?
38 weeks exactly
  1. Did you have a c section?
Yes, elective. Both twins were breech.
  1. What weights were the twins?
Twin A was 5lbs and Twin B was 7lbs 15oz (non-identical boys)
  1. Were you monitored throughout labour?
It was an elective c-section, no labour involved.
Tortington · 12/02/2009 14:31

sandyballs · 12/02/2009 14:37
  1. How much weight did you gain in pregnancy?
2.5 stone, but all in the front, my arms and legs became ultra skinny until about 2 days after the birth and then chunky again
  1. How many weeks were you when you gave birth?
37
  1. Did you have a c section?
Yes, the lower one was lying on her side and unable to move round so knew pretty early on it would be a c section
  1. What weights were the twins?
6 15 and 6 2
  1. Were you monitored throughout labour?
No labour as c section but I was amazed at how many people were in the theatre. Had fantastic care and attention throughout the pregnancy/birth/afterwards.

due to have a section due to DD being breech and DS transverse but went into labour at 35+5 and had to have emergency section

4 lb 15 oz and 5lb

yes lots of scans and midwife appointments v reassuring i thought was V nervous as first pregnancy

KJTWINS · 12/02/2009 19:17

sorry realised meant labour yes lots but 3 am and really in so much pain and panic didnt care DP was there and acually everyone was so lovely.

ck2409 · 12/02/2009 20:33

Hi

  1. no idea about weight as didn't weigh myself but was 'all bump'.
  2. 30+5
  3. No. Vaginal but with epidural just in case as twin 2 was breech and so they were keen to be able to intervene if necessary.
  4. 3lb 6oz and 3lb 8oz
  5. Monitored all through pregnancy, bed rest from 23 weeks and induced at 30+5 because of hellp / pre eclampsia. Monitored through labour and about 20 staff in delivery room because of twins and prem babies. Labour was monitored continuously as induced and couldn't move anyway because I had the epidural. I was really keen to be mobile throughout but it just didn't happen as I'd pictured it. All in though, I had a lovely birth experience because there was a great atmosphere and lots of positive memories.

hth

LargeGlassofRed · 12/02/2009 20:59

ah, thank you all for taking the time to respond, find it so helpful hearing other peoples experiances.
I will try to stop panicing. I'm surpirised by how little my midwife wants to see me,
at the last appointment 14 weeks she just said make an appointment if you have any problems.
Have a consultant appointment at 21 weeks though at the hospital.

Btw trying to work out when to go on maternity leave. Worked 39 weeks with other 3 but they were all late.
Was thinking of booking from 35 weeks ?

duckyfuzz · 12/02/2009 21:01

I was seen monthly I think from about 20 weeks or so LGoR (that's what I'm having just now) I stopped work at 31 weeks, because we moved house when I was 33 weeks and I wanted time to sort it all out, on reflection, I'm really glad I had those last few weeks of freedom/nesting time!

LargeGlassofRed · 12/02/2009 21:18

thanks duckyfuzz, I'm moving too hopefully when i'm 24 weeks can't wait to do the nesting bit

modernart · 12/02/2009 21:33

Hi LargeGlass, congratulations. I had twins after three others too.

  1. About 4 stone, went from 8 to 12 stone but lost it all again. 12 years later and I'm now 8.5 stone.
  2. Had them at 40+1 weeks
  3. No caesarean, vaginal births. No nothing actually, not even gas and air, think I was on a bit of a natural high
  4. 7lb 12oz and 7lb 6oz
  5. Not monitored, all happened quickly and naturally, 8 mins apart. They did keep trying to stick a canula in my hand but I said they could only if a problem developed. There were lots of people present but I didn't really notice

Hope this helps - enjoy!

LargeGlassofRed · 12/02/2009 21:38

thanks modernart, your birth is exactly what I'd like
other 3 were fairly quick so hopefully these will be too quick for too much intervention.

accessorizequeen · 12/02/2009 21:45
  1. About 4 stone, I think (lost it all by 3 months though)
  2. 39+3
  3. Nope
  4. 6lb8 boy 7lb 7 girl
  5. Yes monitored, not induced
LargeGlassofRed · 12/02/2009 21:59

Thanks accessorize, were they happy for you not to be induced earlier?

OP posts:
piximon · 12/02/2009 22:47
  1. About 2 stone.
  1. Induced at 39wks. They just loved it in there. but by then I was barely able to walk so quite happy to go for it. General hospital procedure at the hospital is to induce at 38 wks but I opted for daily monitoring for the extra wk and could have held out longer if I'd wanted.
  1. No. DT1 natural, dt2 ventous.
  1. 6.2oz and 6lbs 5oz.
  1. Only monitored continuously once labour was progressed and I opted for epidural (spd pain was awful and I couldn't comfortably manage the loo trips so having catheter was a relief). Not quite the home birth I had with dd1 but hey ho. My consultant was fairly in tune with my birth plan which made a big difference.

I have 5 dcs too. My b/g dts (2yrs) are third and forth and have now been joined by ds3 10mths.

frumpygrumpy · 12/02/2009 22:52

  1. Did you have a c section?

No, one head first, one breech, good births

  1. What weights were the twins?

5lb 15oz and 6lb 13oz

  1. Were you monitored throughout labour?

yes

jennyroper · 13/02/2009 09:28

large glass - you can email me if you would like to talk about homebirths. I had my 2 yr old son at home and planned to have my twins at home too. It wasn't to be in the end, i hd them in hosp as was induced at 35 wks (IUGR) but had them naturally, no drugs at all. I did masses and masses of research during pregnancy about the risks of twin homebirth. Please feel free to email me if you like and i'll tell you more about the research. jennyroper AT hotmail DOT co DOT uk
your questions......
I put on about 3 and a half stone during preg but lost it within 10 days of having babies.
babies were 4lb 10ozand 4 lb 2oz at 35 +1 wks. Was scanned every few weeks. i did some research on this too if you are interested.
Twins are dreamy you are a lucky lady

accessorizequeen · 13/02/2009 12:27

jr, you are such a star really I always look forward to your positive messages!

largeglass, consultant suggested induction about 3 times before I agreed to it at 40 weeks (then waters broke, went into labour at 39+3). She said no reason to induce early if I was happy and babies both ok. Twas hard to say no as they were quite large (as was I) and the spd was getting pretty bad at the end.

mamadiva · 13/02/2009 12:52

I haven't had twins bu my mum had identical twin girls 3 years ago so wil give you her details LOL.

  1. Gained around 2st
  1. 36+6 days
  1. No, she had both girls in just under 8 hours from start of labour, her waters went at 6am DT2 was born at 1.50pm and labour started naturally, she needed one stitch and had no drugs not even G&A as he hates the stuff.
  1. DT1-3lb something DT2-4lb something
  1. Monitored ever 2 weeks for checks on DT's and mum. Throughout labour she says it was pretty much the same as having one. I know she was up and about trying birthing ball and the whole walking thing LOL.
NotQuiteSoBigBird · 13/02/2009 15:26

Hi LargeGlass

I put on 5 stone, 3 stone of which is already off (8 weeks).

I got to 38+3 then waters broke so was induced 48 hrs later.

Had them vaginally.

7lb11 and 7lb.

Monitored throughout labour, though just a single midwife until I was ready to push (then the cavalry arrived).

neenztwinz · 13/02/2009 15:30
  1. How much weight did you gain in pregnancy?
Three and a half stone (I am now half a stone below my pre-preg weight 9m on)
  1. How many weeks were you when you gave birth?
36+5
  1. Did you have a c section?
No
  1. What weights were the twins?
4lb8 and 6lb2
  1. Were you monitored throughout labour?
No, I was in the bath for the first few hours, the midwife just came in to check HBs every now and then. When I got out of the bath I was 9cm dilated. I was monitored then but they said I didn;t need to be if I didn't want to.

I had my waters broken to induce labour.

LargeGlassofRed · 14/02/2009 21:33

I have started puttin weight on rapidly after not gaining much at all and I'm so hungry, I even wake up with my tummy rumbling and have to get up and eat before I go back to sleep
