Hiya
Like mumoftwinsX2 I have twins and have just found out that i am pregnant with twins . My second set are due in June and there will only be a 14 month gap between the two sets.
I'm excited/scared about the new arriavals - if they're half as well behaved as our exisiting two we should be fine! But I do have some serious questions that I hope someone out there will be able to help me with!
The main thing on my mind is how do you get about with four kids who I assume won't be walking properly (I mean, can 14 month old kids ride a buggy board??). What age do kids really start walking properly? I'm thinking I need a tripple buggy and a baby bjorn?
I guess we'll be getting an MPV - does anyone know if its safe to attach baby seats to all the seats?
I'm sure plenty of people have been here before me. Does anyone have any other practical tips on how to manage?

Thanks all! xx

oh wow ~ congratulations! I don't have much advice, but, with 4 car seats make sure the airbags are turned off if one is in the front... unless you get an MPV with 5 back seats. Not sure about side airbags...

Good Luck! xxx

kernowcat · 15/12/2006 01:04

Sorry no knowledge on this subject! But congrats anyway. Help is always here somewhere I find!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/12/2006 01:04

WOW!!!

Congratulations!!! No advice I'm afraid - but there are loads of MNers with large broods

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 15/12/2006 01:12

amazing news! well done you. can't help, i'm afraid, but am thrilled for you.

heavenlyghosty · 15/12/2006 01:14

Oh my goodness
No advice, sorry, but congratulations and good luck

One day you will look back on it all and laugh ... maybe ....

mamama · 15/12/2006 01:24

Ooo, congrats. Very exciting.

No experience of twins but I can tell you that my 15 month old could definitely not ride on a buggy board for any length of time (eg more than a minute or two). He is a really good walker (started at about 10.5 months). Some children don't walk until they're 18 months or older, so I wouldn't count on buggy boards if I were you. My ds also needs to be strapped in. He is, er, very 'independent', & I couldn't trust him to stay on the buggy board and not dash out into the road.

I hope someone more helpful comes along soon.

How wonderful! I think you're right about getting a triple buggy & and a sling - I carried my DCs in slings until they were around 9mths so your older twins should be properly mobile by then. And consider getting reins - even the best behaved DCs can have their bad days and keeping track of 2 or 4 when you're out will be 'challenging'!

You'll also need to work out a drill for getting them in and out of cars safely - my worst behaved toddler was always 1st into the car and last out - that way, the other 2 would be strapped into buggies/slings etc so he could have my undivided attention once he was free!

MPVs ought to be designed to take that many baby seats. All you need are 3-point harnesses and airbags switched off. I'm having a 3-pt harness fitted in the middle seat of my current car next month in order to accommodate another booster seat (my DCs are growing up!) so it's not difficult to customise a car, if needs be

I had 3 DCs under 3 btw (not quite as shocking as 2 sets of 2!) and it was, and remains, hard work but the rewards for having such close siblings is immense.

Hope you have a good pregnancy!

Hi... I'm a mum of twins. There are lots of us around.. even a triplet mum. I think you may be the first with twins and twins again.

Wonderful aren't they?

Now... you can get a quad buggy. Yes they do exist. TAMBA will have sale boards so that you can pick one up reasonably cheaply. I think that 2become4 has some as well.

Come over and say hello to the other twin mums on the d'you ever wonder why.... thread on the multiples board. We'd love to see you.

I'll see if I can find a link to quad buggies. You'll not want to carry a sling for too long, esp if pushing a triple. And if you're going to push a triple you may as well push a quad.

And rather belatedly.... Congratulations

I have 5 with only one set of twins, so maybe after these you could have another set and extend my lead lol!

Anyhoo...... let me see if I can find you some links.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 15/12/2006 02:09

You could try this and a double buggy

Congratulations!

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 15/12/2006 02:15

Sorry, can't find a thing. Must be too tired or something. Anyhoo... come over to the multiples thread and say hi!

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 15/12/2006 02:15

hinker... can you find a quad buggy online please? Ta!

corrina28 · 15/12/2006 07:21

quad buggy this is what is looks like but is says discontinued, will keep looking for you tho.

corrina28 · 15/12/2006 07:23

try here

corrina28 · 15/12/2006 07:34

maybe you show get 2 x triple seaters, just incase you get pregnant again,

(corrina runs away before stanley1000 throws something at her)

corrina28 · 15/12/2006 07:38

what bout this one?

ThrockenAroundTheChristmasTree · 15/12/2006 07:40

have a look at the forums on www.twinsclub.co.uk - there was someone there who had 2 sets of twins with about 18 months between them - I think she is still there.

stanley1000 · 15/12/2006 07:48

Wow ladies!!!!
Thank you all so much for your help. I had absolutely no idea that quad buggies existed (I guess I'd never really thought about it) and I had no idea that double slings existed either - a whole new world has suddenly opened up to me!!
Thanks for all the advice on walking and cars and controlling kids. You've made me feel soooo much better!
Now what were you all doing up in the middle of the night? You clearly have more energy than me!

xxxx

oh good grief and good luck!!!

A friend of my sis has 2 sets of twins but she had the second est when the first lot were getting on for 30 months I think, so a bit easier. I'll try to get a contact fo ryou if you like?

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 15/12/2006 07:58

I have to say it was her experience that has put me off having anymore, the chances of having another set of twins having had one set do increase...no more for me!

belgo · 15/12/2006 08:02

I think pushing a triple buggy with a baby carried on your front will be extremely hard work! I suggest you buy a baby carrier for your back, such as the 'ergo' which is a carrier that can be used front or back and can be used to carry a toddler or a baby.here

bizzi · 15/12/2006 08:04

How exciting!! Lots of patience wishes heading your way. Enjoy them!

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 15/12/2006 10:50

Hi stanley!

Another invite to the multiples thread, we would be happy to see you and will buy a new couch just for you and yours Xmas Grin.

In the words of a taxi driver I met lately, "why didn't you just buy a telly"? .

sandyballs · 15/12/2006 11:06

Oh my goodness!! Congratulations to you!
I've got one set of twins (girls aged 5) and I really cannot imagine what it would have been like to have had another set when they were 14 months!! You'll cope though and it will be lots of fun as well as hard work.

Out of interest, are your first set non-identical? At my six week check my doctor told me to be very careful with contraception because after having non-identical twins the chances of it happening again are 1 in 16!! Put us off having a third child to be honest!

Best of luck

Glassofwine · 15/12/2006 11:16

Congratulations!

I don't have twins, but did have just 11 months between my dd2 and ds1, with their older sister being just 3. My life saver was getting an au pair. We couldn't really afford it, but figured it was worth going into debt for and it really was. We only had her for a year and then I carried on by myself. Au Pairs only do a few hours per day, but it really was a godsend for me as dd2 was still crawling when ds was born, so breastfeeding him was nervewracking as she'd inevitably start sticking her fingers in doorways or similar. It was the little things that made life better, like coming downstairs after putting them all to be to find the toys tidied and the kitchen floor mopped so all I needed to do was open the wine.
