Oh my what a day of words..................hope everyone is feeling better. I read your post Bubbs and thought "this is a mothers love, staying up to wait for the washing machine to finish so that your child has a clean kit for the next day". Unbelievable about Emma Shabs Shock. My boys were actually impressed with their royal visitor today at school, Princess Anne. Rebecca was totally unimpressed, "what the hell, she only a Princess"! When I asked what she was wearing, Rebecca said "dunno" and James gave me a full blown description!! Had a nice morning up at school, but both the usual teacher and TA were both off with tonsilitus. I know I am being a wuss, but I am so missing my cat, in fact I am feeling quite depressed about him. Of course I love Molly his sister, but every time the cat flap goes I am disappointed its not him. They are a pair, go out together, come in together, they had brought such happiness into our lives.............now we just sit in silence in the evenings, no more watching their mad frenzies that made us all laugh. I know, I know its just a cat.........but I am mssing him so much. To lose him, and my Mum in three months is just so painful. I have to sit in Mums tomorrow afternoon waiting for the charity house clearance people to come. They wont give me a definite time, just from 1.30pm. I shall be so glad when its all over. Somebody make me laugh please!

bagpuss · 11/10/2012 06:57

Morning!

Have just realised I forgot to put the bread machine on last night. Should make for some interesting packed lunches today then!

Chopstheduck · 11/10/2012 08:00

Morning girls x

I rather like washing the football kit too! I feel a mixture of dead proud to see the school strip on MY washing line and a bit like I am in a Persil advert Grin

You are good bubby, I only make homemade at the weekends, gave up doing it during the week, as it is really only nicest eaten on the day. Never got on with bread machines neither - usually came out like a boulder.
Mine have orzo today, with feta, olives and peppers in a sweet chilli sauce. That is Orzo - rice shaped pasta, not fecking barley, take note Nigellissima!

I'm getting itchy feet and drooling over houses. We pay so much in rent to live here, because it is designated catchement for a top school. But the nearby school has really come up and we could afford a 4 or even 5 bedroomed in the area for that. Every autumn we start to feel cramped as the nights draw in and we are all on top of each other. 3 boys in one room, and one reception room for 6 of us is just a bit squashy at times!

triplets · 11/10/2012 09:09

Morning all................already cross!Thomas has just phoned to say he is going sailing with school today and he has not got his stuff, not even packed in his room. Can we take it over to Dover, I said no, by the time we find his stuff, drive there they will all be in the water. Now I feel guilty, bloody can`t win atm.

bagpuss · 11/10/2012 09:19

Panic over, found some bread rolls at the bottom of the bread bin. I usually do a medium loaf daily, chops, it saves us a fortune and we can get through one a day so it is always fresh when we eat it. I don't think I am skilled enough to make by hand. I'm too impatient and so the machine is pretty foolproof for me. I know what you mean about some bread machine bread though, our old one made really stodgy loaves but the one I have now (Panasonic) is very good. I'm not sure my kids would eat orzo - they like most things but pasta has been off the menu recently . It sounds delicious too!

Trips, I like princess Anne, what was she there for?

Shabs, did Emma sort her employers out in the end? That is disgraceful behaviour on their part, although quite common these days. Dh doesn't get any sick pay at all!

Bubby, have your boys started at secondary too? Mine is finding things tough and was up late last night doing homework he had left until the last minute!

Chopstheduck · 11/10/2012 09:28

I'm pretty sure ours was panasonic too. Though it was quite old, a freegle jobby. It was fine if I put everything in and turned it on straightaway, but if I put everything in and put it on timer so we had fresh in the morning, it just refused to work nicely. Plus I got fed up with the ingredients list! The recipes for the bread maker had tons of ingredients, milk powder, oil, etc, do you put all that in?

By hand I just chuck in a bag of flour, sugar, salt and yeast, shove it in the oven until it has risen, and then reshape and bake.

Trips, don't feel bad, like you said, they would be in the water by the time you got there, so it is physically impossible.

I've already been up the school twice this morning, Rav forgot his violin AGAIN! And i clipped my wing mirror on the second run

bagpuss · 11/10/2012 09:42

No, ours is just flour, salt, sugar, yeast, water and a knob of butter, tis easy! Our old one used oil and milk powder - horrible bread!

Bah for multiple school trips too. I insisted that dd1 left her glock at school as it is too heavy to carry and I was always having to go back with it when it was forgotten.

Trips, I agree with chops. My favourite phrase when they all forget something/need me to carry something is "I am not superwoman/an octopus!" (delete as applicable). They get it eventually Grin

shabbatheGreek · 11/10/2012 09:45

Em has gone in work today - Gawd help them if they start on her. She has a fiery temper which luckily I have only seen once!! Dan is off this morning with him....he rang his boss and told him that he had to have the morning off and would go in at 1pm and work his normal hours....so thats him working till about (at least) 8.30pm. Thank God for flexi time. Dan works for local council in debt recovery - they are not encouraged to join the Union and when the national strike was on he had to 'run the gauntlet' of the Trades Unions who were picketing outside the town hall. Worse thing is that he agrees fully with their arguments......ahhhh I dont know, working for local government and education used to be one of those 'jobs for life' things - certainly not now!

Chopstheduck · 11/10/2012 09:54

I googled glock and it came up with this EEK!

I'm always telling mine that I am not an octopus, or their slave. Doesn't seem to sink in though. I wouldn't have run the violin in again if I hadn't paid £96 for the terms lessons.

I wonder if all councils are as bad, shabs :(

shabbatheGreek · 11/10/2012 10:05

Salford and Bolton council have had their funding cut dramatically. Salford especially usually get 'X' amount for the budget....in order to employ temp. staff etc. This year they got about a tenth of their normal budget and the threat of redundancies. Have told Dan that his department will be the last to feel the cuts, as they are debt recovery. He disagreed with me totally and said that everybody is petrified that they will lose their jobs.

bagpuss · 11/10/2012 10:50

Glockenspiel Grin. I was being a lazy typist Blush.

Shabs that sucks Sad. Dh says he has seen far too many ex colleagues out of work recently for comfort. I guess he was lucky to have found a new job at all, but there is always that doubt in the back of his mind that it will happen again to him.

bubby64 · 11/10/2012 11:12

Trips - Not mothers love , but personal pride! He can go to school smelling like a skunk because he has avoided a shower yet again, but at least the kit looks/smells clean! and yes- no good you running over there with his kit, it would have been a waste of time/petrol. Hope all else has gone okThanks
Shabs What a relief for you all about parents taking time off , I told DH he has to go yesterday to sort out a problem at school, as I couldnt keep taking time off/coming in late his boss wasnt pleased, and said "thats the wifes job, not the fathers!", DH told him that parenting was a partnership, and only poor fathers left it all to the wife! Boss let him go Grin
Hi Bagpuss, yes, they started in September, and, TBH we've had a bit of a bumpy road these past weeks, but, hopefully, things will settle now.
I am already fed up with nagging them about homework, packing bag for next day, and general niggles, especially since the past 4 weeks I have worked full time in one so I have put full time in one job or the other, and they are supposed to get home and start homework. Either DH or I get there at about 5.15pm. I have now put full parental blocks on Sky and computer, except for their school website for homework, and DH takes the xbox cable with him, so they have less excuses to sit around and leave it til later! Oh, and at least I only have to remember J's guitar, as M is learning drums, and I'm not carting a whole drumkit anywhere!
Chops I make bread most days too, dont used the timer- it sucked, but always use the fastbake- large loaf done in under 2hrs!

I am sooo excited. Got a phone call and one of the dts is going to be a mascot for Arsenal. He will be on the telly and everything! He is going to be over the moon when I tell him Grin

Only thing is the prize should be for dt1 (I tend to alternate entering the kids names into comps) but he may be half of a cm over the height limit! I gonna have to measure him tonight, and make a decision, otherwise dt2 may have to take his place. One twin is going to be thrilled in either case!

triplets · 11/10/2012 23:31

Chopster, could you give us some tips on this comping malarky, I dont ask for much..............just a family holiday for 1(me), to swim with the sharks for dk, and a free months community work for dcs.......and a years supply of Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds...........oh and a luxury villa in Faliraki for a friend.....my needs are few:o

shabbatheGreek · 12/10/2012 05:02

Morning girls xx

No I have no idea why the hell I am up so early either Hmm

Chopstheduck · 12/10/2012 07:45

Morning girls x

Trips, it takes HOURS! Not even won much lately, and not a nut in sight!

Measured Rav last night, he is 127cms in socks so should be fine. He is so excited!

bagpuss · 12/10/2012 20:42

Evening all! Happy Friday

Fantastic stuff chops! I'm not surprised he is excited!

Bubby, why didn't I think of that before - hide the Xbox cable, genius! Ds1 is minecraft addicted Hmm. It causes many rows in this house. He is 12 tomorrow! Totally not prepared for his birthday - doesn't want anything in particular and doesnt want to do anything either, so just like any other day!

bubby64 · 12/10/2012 22:32

Chops - wonderful for Rav!
bagpuss Bloody Minecraft!!!! They have it on Xbox, and want it downloaded onto our main computer as well!! I have said they can't have it on my laptop as it would take up too much space. Mine are 12 in December- I have hired the local pool for an hour, at £50, they can have up to 38 guests, then just giving a drink and crisps after - sorted!Grin I wish they didnt want anything for their birthday, as their wishes are very expensive - an electric guitar and a drumkit(electronic is needed as I can't stand noise of conventional kit), both on loan at the moment from school, but they want (and need) their own, oh, and a laptop each as well! They must think these things will just "materialise" as they complain about me working the overtime needed to pay for the bloody thingsConfused
J is becoming a argumentative, obstinate little shit child, and M not far behind, but M's temper tantrums have to be seen to be believed! Kevin years have well and truly kicked in over here Sad
Trips - only use breadmaker as it saves ££ each month with the amount of bread they seem to get through, also, I can add wholemeal flour to make a 50/50 type loaf at half the price of shop bought ones - they wont eat brown bread, so this is a compromiseHmm

Morning girls.

It's far too early to be up DH is snoring his head off and I've given up. I'm supposed to be going out 2n too, got tickets to a London Film Festival event at Leicester Square. I doubt that will be happening now.

Happy birthday to the little Bubster! xx

I've kinda drilled it into mine that we are not rich and expensive presents are out of the question. I scrimp on everything, and they are pretty used to it, and they are quite good at saving up for things themselves. They know they will only get expensive stuff, if it's in a massive sale, or I win it!

But they still moan about me comping to get the nice things! I actually get up early during the holidays to get it over and done with at the crack of dawn, mostly before they get up. It's paid for three holidays, most of christmas, birthdays, endless days out, but they still moan at me!

It def gets harder as they get older, dd is 12, and doesn't have a clue what she wants for Xmas.

Morning Chops as you are the only one up, yes far too early for a Sat! Its grey and miserable here, I feel tired after last night, got up to wake James as he has a band event, only to be told he doesn`t have to be there until 11.30am! The boys bedroom when I went in was the worst I have ever seen it, could hardly get thru the door, guess what they will be doing before they get their pocket money?
