I'm due #2 in November. Have got a boys name sorted- Iddon Meilir. Need to sort a girls name out now. I have a very English surname beginning with M. I am Welsh and really fancy a Welsh name for #2. Dd has a Welsh name. i fancied mabli but a friend has just beaten me to it
I wouldn't mind resurrecting an olde Welsh name but dh doesn't say the Ll very well- i had fancied Llenwedd but the Ll makes it impossible for dh.

Help me please

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 22:55

Llio (oh, sorry, "ll")
Iola
Nia
Seren
Enfys

moondog · 18/06/2007 22:55

Nork, first too are sensible middle aged librarian names!

Enaid is cool, as is Enid pronounced Welsh way.

moondog · 18/06/2007 22:56

I've got a Seren.
Seren Haf.

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 22:57

Yes, I love the name Seren (and the middle name Haf too!).

I like the sound of the word, and the fact it means "star"

Also like "aur" as a middle name - my niece is called Poppy Aur.

MIL has a friend called Eira and one called Eirlys - definately too old - like calling a child Mavis or Doris imo! (apologies to anyone who has used these names recently!)

norkmaiden · 18/06/2007 22:58

Nia is sweet.

MD, really?! Don't get back to the motherland often enough, clearly

moondog · 18/06/2007 22:58

Thank you.
It's summer star (although she was born in November!)
Sur is a cool name, as is Arian, although bus company here called Seren Arian..

norkmaiden · 18/06/2007 23:00

Emsie, but all these old ladyish names are sooo trendy atm, Doris/Mavis - retro chich non?

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 23:00

not in my neck of the woods...

moondog · 18/06/2007 23:01

Hmm,not yet in Wales.
Mabinogion type names big at present.

Funny, nonone used Welsh names really fgor anyone over say 50 and now they are all the rage.

Which is good.

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 23:02

Doesn't arian mean money?

Ah, just looked it up - also means silver - silver star, I get it.

ghosty · 18/06/2007 23:08

I have a Welsh name (Megan) ... no one had my name when we were growing up ...
Now my name is everywhere and most people don't even know it is welsh when they give the name to their children (and the Aussies and Kiwis have ruined it by pronouncing it differently - "Meeegan" ) and my sister's name is very popular in Australia too - but they spell it wrong here - she'd kill me if I posted it though ... it begins with B.

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 23:09

I was told a story years ago of a girl whose middle name was Myfanwy. She emigrated to Australia, sent off for her Oz driving licence, and when it arrived her middle name had been written down as "My Fanny".

Lol!
