I'm due #2 in November. Have got a boys name sorted- Iddon Meilir. Need to sort a girls name out now. I have a very English surname beginning with M. I am Welsh and really fancy a Welsh name for #2. Dd has a Welsh name. i fancied mabli but a friend has just beaten me to it
I wouldn't mind resurrecting an olde Welsh name but dh doesn't say the Ll very well- i had fancied Llenwedd but the Ll makes it impossible for dh.

Help me please

Dds were just commenting today that there is at least one Bethan in every year but one at their (Welsh medium) school...

Only 1 other Catrin though.

I'm almost in the middle, near Dolgellau, Gwynedd

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 23:17

Dh is from Llanfairpwll - hence the Welsh Medium school for the dds.

Have spent many a happy () hour in that soft play in an ex-church in Caernarfon (can't remember what it's called).

mambach · 18/06/2007 23:19

Whereabouts moondog?

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 23:20

Luckily the dd's are getting too old to want to go there, and also old enough to be sent to Llanfairpwll for their hols without us!

Never been to Llanfairfechan, but always loved the name!

All those scousers living in "Clandidno" have problems with the "ll" too...

moondog · 18/06/2007 23:22

The closest an English speaker will get to a 'll' is to say 'clitoris' (or 'cling' for the faint hearted) and its nestled in there.

(Tip passed on by Phonetics tutor.)

mambach · 18/06/2007 23:22

Wel, dwi'n trio, dwi yn Saes, ond dwi bod yn byw yma am dipyn....if that make any sense to you!!

emsiewill · 18/06/2007 23:24

Well I'm not a (proper) Welsh speaker, and I've learnt how to do it.

I can even say "urdd" (well, nearly)
