hi im emma i have a 1 year son i often get funny looks wen with his father.... im white he is black. our son looked typically mixrace when born lots and lots of black hair. as he has gotten older his hair is dark brown and his skin just looks permenantly tanned.you can tell hes mixed but not sure of how mixed.. iv only met a other mum who dont have typically looking mixrace kids whatever that is suposed to be i guees it just goes to show that genes are all different . My friend daughter is too half black half white and has very pale skin with auburn afro hair . i expected him to be look alot different than he does but I really dont care whether people can tell if he is black mixed but i am concerned what he will feel like wen older. And how he will be identified.
I dont no y people do have the urge to wonder.......about other people and hope he wont have to face some of the things i have.........
im just wondering if any1 else has experienced anyhing like this..................

thankyou every1 4 listening to me rant on

I'm white and my dh is Mexican. Ds1 is very funny because when he's next to his cousins on my side he looks dark, but when he's next to his Mexican cousins he looks so pale. Ds2 is darker than ds1 and just looks like he has a perpetual tan. Both have light brown hair and light brown eyes. They are a good mix of both of us.

My biggest pet peeve is when my inlaws call ds1 "bolillo" which is white bread.

lol...very interesting thread...now am I allowed here? ...me and Dh are both black but many people think our daughter (esspecially when she was a baby) is mixed she has the tan with brown curls isn't the human race interesting?..lol...they always presumed my partner was white!..even now I'm asked about mine (I have very long wavy hair)...and her heritage..thats the thing about genetics...you never know what you are gonna get!..

my 3 kids are mixed race english/bengali .im of the opinion that in years to come the whole of england will be mixed race !!!!!!

my lot are all fairly tanned and have very dark brown eyes and mid brown hair i do secretly wish they had come out darker to stop the funny looks we get!is that strange?

Loriycs · 29/06/2008 20:02

hi, mumcentre plus, do you mind me asking are you of mixed heritage?

lulurose · 29/06/2008 20:07

My dds are mixed race, I am white, my DH is Indian. DD1 is olive skinned, dark hair, eyes etc. DD1 is blonde and blue eyed with fair skin....We get a few looks...genes are a funny old thing!

PussinJimmyChoos · 29/06/2008 20:17

I'm English and very fair, DH is Arab with dark hair, dark eyes and quite tanned looking. DS does not look half Arabic at all! Has brown/blonde hair and green/brown eyes and is very white skinned!! We joke I ran off with the milkman!

I went to a local music group with my central asian/white DS, half the other women there where filliapina nannies with white babies and we looked like we'd swapped childrne as we came in. Interesting area I live in - fillapina women with white babies far more common that white women with mixed race children.

Only once been asked if he was mine and in a very mater of fact way before she went on to ask how old he was etc - I thought it was fair enough myself, we don;t look that alike and I could easily have been a nanny/friend ec.

Candyfluff you're more right than you might think. Apparently Birmingham already has more non-white people in it than white (I'm assuming that includes people of mixed race). I also read once that by some year, can't remember when, there will be more children of mixed race heritage (whether that be black/white or Turkish/Polish and every combination in between) than 'Anglo-Saxon white'.

DP's ex-wife is Bengali and he always gets funny looks when out with his son or daughter who are 19 and 20. No-one ever thinks he is their Dad, they just assume he is either a lech or gay. And when his youngest DD comes up and we take her out, you can see people trying to figure out what's going on.

I'm black and DH is white. We have twin boys (naturally conceived). One is brown with fine curly dark hair and brown eyes. The other is white with fair, tightly coiled afro hair and blue eyes.

Strangers find it incredulous that they are twins and some find it hard to believe that I am the mother of the white one.

im white, dh is black. our ds(6m) is typical mixed looking with tanned skin and curly hair.
the other day in a party some older black ladies were giving me the eye, like i wouldnt belong there and a black older man picked him up and said: "u r black, not white- always remembe!" while next to me.
thats not fair eighter! im stil really upset about it
