Just interested to know what nationalities your kids are made up of and who does your child/ren most resemble?

My son to be will have a Welsh grandmother, Irish grandfather, Scottish grandmother and N.African grandfather. Wonder who he's going to take after!

Oh prettycandles, I thought I was a freak?I completely recognised my ds1 when he was born, but got the shock of my life when ds2 was born. I looked down and there was my Chinese FIL. Who thankfully I love to bits.

Took a couple of hours to get to know him (ds2 that is) but at least I know what expect when dd is born in a couple of weeks.

ChaCha · 20/09/2005 14:52

Oh Tartanlass...congratulations on your pregnancy When is your due date exactly? I had to LOL at your looking down to see FIL

Am really intrigued as to what our baby is going to look like.

My family goes like this:

Mum - White, blue eyes, fair hair
Dad - Dark skinned, brown eyes, black hair
MIL - Fair, brown eyes, dark hair
FIL - White, blue eyes, fair hair

I take after mum, DH takes after his dad. Hmmm...

PMSL! The image that conjured up in my mind - OMG I had better wipe it out immediately!

Actually, when I realised just how much ds resembles my SIL, I was really cross - she takes virtually no interest in him, why couldn't he resemble a realtive who actually cares for him?!

Chacha, almost inevitable that your d? will be blue-eyed and fair, but he or she may yet surprise us all!

pinkmagic1 · 20/09/2005 15:26

DH is Egyptian and I am white British. DS is alot lighter skinned than we thought he would be. He has a slight olive colouring with dark brown eyes and relatively straight mousy brown hair. DH is really quite dark skinned with afro hair.
DS takes more after me coulouring wise but you can still definitely see his dads side in him, he looks especially like his paternal Grandad.

ChaCha · 20/09/2005 15:32

Hi Pinkmagic - Like your son, I'm half British and half Egyptian
Have you been to Egypt? I'd love to know.

My children's g'parents were born in England, Wales, India and South Africa. My ds1 has a Jewish-American wife and ds2 is settled down with a French-Muslim girl. Oh, and dd1's current boyfriend is English/American.

ChaCha · 20/09/2005 16:36

Hi Suedonim,

That sure is a multicultural family
How do you all get on?

on my side dd has maya, spanish and arab
on dh's side she has english, greek and italian

she looks more like his side of the family with dark curly hair and eyes (as opposed to my dark straight hair and eyes) and light skin colour compared to mine where I would say i look like tea with a splash of milk.

suedonim · 20/09/2005 23:37

Everyone gets on like a house on fire, Cha-cha. It's great to have the chance to find out about all these new things and become part of different cultures. We've also lived in Indonesia and will be moving to Nigeria soon. 9yo dd2's teacher says when it comes to geography and religions, she has all the answers, lol!

pinkmagic1 · 21/09/2005 10:45

Cha Cha,I have been to Egypt many times. DH family still live just outside Luxor so we go back to visit once or twice a year. Ive not long been back as we went out for my sister in laws wedding in August and we are in the early stages of planning to move out there permanently.
Have you ever lived in Egypt? Where is your Egyptian side of the family from? I would love to hear from you.

PrettyCandles · 21/09/2005 13:20

I see what you mean, Redtartanlass! Bet your FIL was absolutely glowing when that pic was taken .

ChaCha · 21/09/2005 22:06

PinkMagic1 - Hi there I have lived in Egypt for some time and I actually miss it there. My dad & family are all from Cairo. I visited Luxor once at the beginning of the year and found it to be a beautiful, scenic & peaceful place. Waking up to the Nile view and the glorious Egyptian sun is definitely a memory worth cherishing! You can CAT me if you like.

Suedonim - That's great! I wish you every success with your move to Nigeria. Are you excited about going?

hi ya back chacha!!!

I have been mistaken for my dd's nanny/childminder many a time, including other mums asking me whether I have any vacancies!!!!

albert · 23/09/2005 21:32

DS is half English (me) half Brazilian (DH), born in Denmark and living in Italy although we are just about to move back to Brazil. Poor DS looks just like me!

likklemum · 23/09/2005 23:06

ME= half Irish, half Romany (British)
DP= 1/4 Afro-Carribean, 1/2 Carib-Indian (coolie), 1/4 Chinese (British Trinidadian)
DS=light olive skin, light brown hair, almond shape eyes, slight Afo-carribean nose
Jury's out on who he resembles most, but he hasn't got DP's black Coolie hair!

kiwibelle · 23/09/2005 23:53

my kiwi daughter is a mixture of five European nationalities (English, Irish, German, Polish, Belgium) but she is a New Zealand Maori - the Maori side coming from her Dad.

I'm typical European English, my Dad used to say that if you looked far back enough at our family tree you'd find a bit of everything except Welsh! I'm dark, brown eyes and hair and olivey skin. DH is Cypriot and looks vaguely Middle Eastern (is that a word?), he has olive skin, brown eyes and very curly brown hair. He's also very hairy

So far the kids are

DS1 - dark blond/light brown hair, quite coarse with a curl. Blue eyes (!?) and is very hairy, but blond with olive skin

DS2 - Dark brown 'troll' hair (is dead straight but grows vertically) brown eyes, olive skin

DD - Dark brown ringletty hair, brown eyes and very dark olive skin (looks like I keep her under a sunlamp) and sadly very hairy like DS1!

You can see both me and Dh in all the kids, they are a nice mix and pretty much seem to have the best bits of both of us!
