How many times did you view your house before putting in an offer?

Have a family looking at our house , they seem to love it which is great. They have done 3 viewings in as many days and want to come back for a 4th.

Of course I dont mind but have never heard of someone making so many viewings. Although of course I suppose when you are spending that kind of money you need to be sure.

Twice (partner only once). But my buyer kept coming back and back, taking photos, measurements. He almost became a personal friend.

I am asking as when we bought the house we are now selling I put in an offer having been inside for 15 minutes and dp had not even seen it.

The house we are now renting I took on without ever having stepped foot in the town. Dp emailed me some pictures, I showed them to my class and said do you think Miss should have this house and they said yes!

So I know I am not the norm!

Once. Then popped round once they accepted to do all the measuring up

alurkerspeaks · 18/04/2009 17:44

Once for all of 15 minutes.

It was at a time when you had to move fast and the house was in my preferred location, and ticked all of my preference boxes bar one (private parking).

I've never regretted it.....

CarGirl · 18/04/2009 17:48

Once or possibly twice but then our choices were so limited it was the best 3 bed we could afford!

snigger · 18/04/2009 17:49

Once, but it was a doer-upper and I spent the latter part of the viewing dancing around DH going "Buy it buy it buy it" instead of having a sober grown up discussion about it.

If we were to buy now, I'd probably look at least twice.

Four is probably a good thing - unless they're leaving a family member behind to squat every time they visit, I'd imagine there's a great deal of emotional investment in the house by now - someone's mentally decorating by this stage, surely!

They've maybe just done it all before and are being very careful in the current climate.

wombleprincess · 18/04/2009 17:55

twice. when we were selling someone wanted to look round it a 4th time, given we lived in a pretty much 2 up 2 down cottage, a little bit ridiculous so i told the estate agent to question whether they really wanted the house or were just looking at the extension/renovation we had done. guess what, they didnt come a 4th time..

psychomum5 · 18/04/2009 17:56

my DH had to hold me back from making an offer the minute we walked in to our house......the feeling I got the minute I walked in was "I'm home!".

four times tho......I would think that means one of them is really keen, and the other a little unsure.

probably like me and DH!!

noddyholder · 18/04/2009 18:03

Once but was a wreck so was looking for size and location mainly not decor.

ForeverOptimistic · 18/04/2009 18:06

Dh and I looked twice and dh also went with his boss twice as well. We didn't like the house at all but there wasn't much choice so we had to go for it. It needed complete gutting, the reason for dh's boss tagging along was because they asked to go up in the loft and wanted to measure head height etc.

Oh forgot there was a fifth viewing, dh also took a plumber with him once as well.

ThingOne · 18/04/2009 18:14

Once for our first flat, twice for our first house (although we were pretty certain we were going to put in an offer when we went round again), and once for our current house. DH didn't see it until we went round with the surveyor but to be fair he had seen an identical house in the street we'd lost out on.

LaDiDaDi · 18/04/2009 18:19

We put in an offer on this house after the first viewing then went back again with our parents and I went back when the sale was going through to measure up for curtains etc.

When I bought the flat we lived in before that I only went once but I really liked it and had visited the development before.

I bought a house with ex-h and he hadn't even seen in when we put the offer in but he had seen another in the same street with the same layout but in much better condition than the one we went for.

notcitrus · 18/04/2009 19:38

twice, but spent 2 hours the second time poking it hard (needed to tell if it was doer-upper or total wreck). then after full survey done went back and spent about 4 hours haggling with owners...but then had nice pub lunch with them after agreeing a price.

previously made offer in 2 minutes of entry - maisonette in less-nice bit of same estate was withdrawn from sale the day we we were due to exchange. when another in the nicer end of the estate came up, well-kept if naff decor, for 15% less, we leapt at it!

Northernlurker · 18/04/2009 19:42

Once. Then we couldn't bear to look again until we'd exchanged in case we lost it. I know that sounds mad but it ticked all our boxes, we had a very good, careful look round and as it was only 6 years old we were comfortable that all the walls were staying up etc.

HaventSleptForAYear · 18/04/2009 19:46

Twice.

But again it was a few years back (2004), I was 7 mths pregnant at the time, and we hadn't seen one other single house that even fitted half our criteria.

Once with estate agent and second time with friends who advised us to go for it.

Would have loved to go back more though, and done some proper measuring, taken more photos etc.

I would think that at the moment people know that they can take their time and are much more wary about whether something is a good investment or not.

Hope it works out for you.

hippipotamiHasLost15Pounds · 18/04/2009 19:54

Once, but it had only been on the market for 3 days and already had had 6 viewings and two offers (both rejected by vendor). So we had to act fast. Viewed once (for half an hour) and promptly offered the asking price. Houses were selling like hotcakes then (1997) so we wanted to move fast. (Plus dh and I both fell in love with it so it was an easy decision to make, still love it now)

artichokes · 18/04/2009 20:04

We offered on a house on Friday after our 3rd viewing. We also viewed another house 4 times in the last fortnight (we liked it so much but it is in the wrong school area, however we could not leave it alone - still feel torn about it now).

twinsetandpearls · 18/04/2009 20:16

It looks promising then, dp was their for thei first visit and he said the woman was really keen so maybe she is pursuaing her husband/partner

compo · 18/04/2009 20:20

oh dear I'm not going to come out of this looking good

none, dh viwed it, phoned me and asked if he could put an offer in, he did and I went to have a look the following day
he'd told everyone at work what was going on and had to ring them with an update to say if I'd liked it as they were all on tenterhooks (and presumable thinkign we were insane!)

nannyL · 18/04/2009 20:22

twice... by myself then with parents!

slackrunner · 18/04/2009 20:25

Once for us too. I had a really good gut feel about the place. In fact, I've always only looked once before offering - and then have gone back once my offer was accepted just to be sure.

twinsetandpearls · 18/04/2009 20:25

Compo that is exactly how we bought our house except it was dp that agreed to putting in an offer with not seeing it.

OP posts:
TheOldestCat · 18/04/2009 20:27

Ah, good luck twinset, fingers crossed for you.

We've only seen the house we're in the middle of buying once, but we were there for about an hour and we both love it. Hoping to visit again shortly to take measurements etc.

The buyer for our flat has seen it twice, but she lives in the area and we've spotted her lurking outside for an external look a couple of other times!

compo · 18/04/2009 20:28

ooh glad we're not the only nutters around
