Water pursuing me for Mum's debt

Hi, is this legal? My mum and I used to live in an address about 4 years ago and the water company are now chasing me for her debt. I have never been responsible for bills there as I was a child at the time.

They have sent it to a collections agency and are now insisting that I take responsibility for her debt. My credit has dropped 80 points from Excellent to Fair. My Mum is insisting that it's some kind of scam but I don't think it is if my credit has already dropped so far.

OP has also been a landlord for three years.

Impressive for one so young.

Extremely impressive.

👀

Based on the many inconsistencies of what the OP says, I think there is just a chance (and I am going out on a limb here), perhaps a possibility, maybe, in retrospect, after careful consideration...... that not everything they are saying (on this completely anonymous internet forum) is 100% true?🤔

Well thats indeed something we could perhaps give some slight consideration to, if we were so inclined to think that this sort of thing might have happened before on the internet, however this is a quality website where mods are on top of it all and never ever ever think to themselves ‘ooh, views! engagement! money!’ which I am sure they never do as that would be utterly dreadful. And I have read between the lines of your comment and I think you are suggesting we might look at the posts here, and some of the previous posts perhaps, and come to the conclusion that there may be a little…..confusion?

Anyway.

Someone, you or mum, owes the money. Just pay it - problem sorted. Otherwise, costs will be loaded on.

Recollections may vary.
😉.

she would never do that.

Then why won't she phone them and pay the bill?

You may waiting for a long time for a reply as the OP has said she is "unwatching" the thread.

That said, she has replied twice since stating that.😆
