DLA rejected

Hi, submitted a claim early November and middle of December I received a letter saying we were not entitled to DLA but if we do not agreed with this to either ring to write to them. I wrote them a letter just before christmas asking how we proceed with appeal and to send the relevant forms. I have heard nothing yet, does it normally take this long? TIA x

I think both DLA and PIP have rediculously long wait times to put people off claiming and make them doubt themselves. I sent in form for PIP for foster child in October 2024. He was awarded a continuation of DLA until last month when he got a huge back payment and his PIP then starts. No idea why PIP not started from when I applied as he was 17. Anyway he had to wait 19 months and when he got payment it was almost £12k. Because I collected so much evidence from consultants, paediatrics and his EHCP from a special school and SW letter he had a paper assessment so he didn't need to see or speak to anyone. He got a 6 year award too.

Who has been managing the prescribing of her medications? Mine is on the same meds and so we get regular letters from the reviews with specialists, if they don’t send letters following reviews I would definitely chase them for this. Unfortunately it is common that they want more up to date professional evidence as needs can fluctuate so greatly

I'm just wondering if this is because autism and social anxiety as we keep hearing DWP are reviewing claims for these disorders? I know there was an interim report that specifically mentioned autism and anxiety. I think the full report is expected in October/November. You could Google and see if you can find it. I think there's a big difference between feeling a bit anxious and having a full blown meltdown which it sounds like your DD did at school. Has she been any better at home?

There’s a long wait because of number of renewal claims, appeals and new claims. Not because the DWP are trying to put people off.

That's for PIP, not DLA as far as I'm aware. It sounds like there wasn't enough evidence which is why it was rejected.
