Just that really. Which do you get more enjoyment out of?

Both there are no pockets in a shroud, but equally I am not gonna work until the day I drop down dead.
So I think there has to be a real balance, I’ve always encouraged my children to save 10% of everything they earn

Both. We inherited a lot of money last year due to family who lived in un maintained homes but invested a lot. I felt sad for them. They could have lived a very physically comfortable life.

I don't have time to do either, I'm too busy working 😂

Money is there to be enjoyed, otherwise you risk turning into a miser. Having a sensible back up in savings is necessary though, for peace of mind.

I wish and want to be the savings watcher. But there is always ‘something’ that I need to make my life complete.

zaazaazoom · 25/07/2025 11:57

The only thing I ever treat myself to beyond necessity is doing things. Gigs, festivals, travel etc. but I always save to do that!

I don't have much in long term savings other than my pension which I'm currently whacking as much into as I can afford whilst still having enough to go on holiday.

I like to save for something specific then buy it and watch my savings build back up.

SpottyAardvark · 25/07/2025 16:49

Definitely watching my savings grow. I have always really struggled to treat myself or spend money on non essentials. That’s what comes from growing up dirt poor on a council estate.

I’m now financially comfortable (but not wealthy) and view being careful & sensible with money as a good thing. Holidays are something I can spend money on, but it’s the day to day spending I can’t justify eg takeaway coffee.

Aria2015 · 25/07/2025 16:59

I can't really compare because I've never watched my money grow! Both me and dh are spenders unfortunately! Not to the extent where we have debt, but we don't save each month either.

Titasaducksarse · 25/07/2025 17:28

Saver. I said that when my ISA reached £Xk I'd treat myself...did I heck...I just moved the goalpost to a higher figure. I don't really want for anything and hate being wasteful so it's not as if I'm going without.
My partner bless him is always trying to encourage me to treat myself. Funny we've just been discussing a girls trip I've got coming up and me treating myself to a treatment!

Mostly watching it grow. But I also get enjoyment out of making plans in the long term and finally putting them into motion. If something has been on my mind for months or years, it's usually worth the investment.
