Just that really. Which do you get more enjoyment out of?

Watching! I used to be a spend every last penny before payday kinda gal but then started saving and now enjoy watching my balance increase.

Farmwifefarmlife · 23/07/2025 22:06

I’ve only just recently started saving after paying off debt so I’m definitely enjoying watching my S&S isas. For me life is now about growing / saving / buying house. Treats can come later on plus I’ve already done that hence no savings!

solando · 23/07/2025 22:08

I used to watch it, but now I'm retired, spending it

MindBodySoul · 23/07/2025 22:11

Both, I enjoy watching my savings increase and every now and then I'll spend some on myself 😊

Oldgalgames · 23/07/2025 22:56

I swap between the two!

Lesina · 23/07/2025 22:58

Travel.. every single time I will travel

Aposterhasnoname · 23/07/2025 23:00

Both, the two are not mutually exclusive.

mylovedoesitgood · 23/07/2025 23:01

Both, but more so treating myself. It’s a lovely, comforting feeling knowing I have a fairly big rainy day fund that I don’t touch unless it’s an emergency, but I’m a spender at heart and enjoy indulging myself now and then with nice food, hobbies etc.

StarDolphins · 23/07/2025 23:05

I love both saving and treating myself. It’s important for me to show my DD that we absolutely must save but we are also here to enjoy life and with that comes treats.

I’m extremely frugal and look for best value, I don’t like to overpay for anything. I buy Prosecco in bulk when it’s on 25% off, why pay £8 per bottle when I can get it for £6, it doesn’t make sense to me!

I buy all my clothes off vinted but I do t scrimp on perfume or food, they both have to be top quality!

I earn very little too🤣

Me too.

indoorplantqueen · 23/07/2025 23:06

Both. I like seeing my pension pot and Lisa/isa but having fun is also important.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 23/07/2025 23:23

Treating myself by doing nice things - a holiday, an evening out with friends etc . Yes I have savings, money from an inheritance and my pension lump sum but they have been put away and forgotten about unless needed for an emergency.

This

Miney feels different to when spent on travel compared to money spent on anything else.

It’s like you’re buying life.

LillyPJ · 25/07/2025 06:10

Definitely prefer watching savings grow. I even like going round the shops and seeing all the things I don't need to buy. Sometimes it's a struggle to force myself to spend money!

StrawberryCranberry · 25/07/2025 06:14

I'm a saver.

autienotnaughty · 25/07/2025 06:16

Grow definitely!

alwaysstressed · 25/07/2025 06:22

Watching my savings grow. I get no joy out of treating myself, well maybe for the first 5 minutes then I just feel guilty and wished I put the money into savings

hattie43 · 25/07/2025 06:36

Combination of both .

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 25/07/2025 07:37

Both.

In my 20s I spent all my money travelling and had the best time.

Now I'm in my 30s I have some good savings and I like seeing it grow.

I still treat myself but more thoughtfully now, especially with the cost of living. But I prefer to spend money on experiences than things.

Waitingfordoggo · 25/07/2025 08:21

Saving, definitely. I don’t like spending money on ‘treat’ or non-essential stuff, it makes me feel sad and anxious.

TaborlinTheGreat · 25/07/2025 08:24

Treating myself. I don't get any enjoyment out of thinking about savings, they are just a practicality that I don't really think about until I need to spend some of them on something.

solando · 23/07/2025 22:08

And me. 👍

needtostopnamechanging · 25/07/2025 11:01

I don’t enjoy watching savings grow as such but I do enjoy the lack of stress and knowing that the actions and savings I have made were building financial safety

I have done everything I can -after that it’s luck of life

so when DH lost his job that was ok as we had savings, when we needed a new car we had the savings

being in debt terrifies me . Being unable to pay a bill or buy food terrifies me , arguing over money terrifies me

I don't watch it grow I just know it’s there.

i still get treats -but they are real treats - rare and special - not justifying weekly spend as treats

except Lidl pretzels … my weakness and a weekly treat

TheChosenTwo · 25/07/2025 11:04

Oh god spending!
I do have savings as does dh and we have joint savings too so I’m not spending money that I SHOULD be saving. Savings are important, we need a safety net, but my life would be very dull indeed if I stayed home all the time because I wanted to save rather than eg go for lunch or dinner with the dc/friends, or go and splash out on a new perfume or pair of trainers or whatever.
I’m totally a spender - it’s good for the economy at least 😂😂

Lighttodark · 25/07/2025 11:07

Both, nice to have a balance
