(inflationary) Payrise at work in 2025?

Charcol · 20/03/2025 19:57

Just wondering how many employers out there are actually giving a an annual payrise in this current climate.

We're having high cost of living, increase in council tax, water rates, the usual, etc... but employers are also feeling the pinch with the NI increase and the ever increasing cost of doing business.

So how many of us are seeing an incremental rise this year at all?

I can go first, and we have just been informed of a 2.5% inflationary rise. Which i guess is better than a kick in the teeth. What about you's?

I’m getting a pay rise inline with inflation too, but in 2 parts. First increase is April 1st then second is due in August.

Rocknrollstar · 21/03/2025 06:10

DD works for a charity and they have been told that £85k increase in their National Insurance bill means that there will be no pay rise at all

FlipperSkipper · 21/03/2025 06:12

1.48%. It’s an insult

Haveapotato · 21/03/2025 06:25

3% if you're hitting your KPIs / objectives, bit more if you are overperforming, bit less if you're under.

BlackBean2023 · 21/03/2025 06:26

Local government do no idea as it take the unions and employers side the best part of 9 months to agree the pay award despite it being due in April.

screws over colleagues on UC every year.

ijustdontknow01 · 21/03/2025 07:15

No pay rise

maddiemookins16mum · 21/03/2025 07:18

Our company is having to increase the wage of the lowest earners to bring in line with the new NLW, everyone else gets the same figure increase. Pisses me off that yet again those on the lowest salary in effect don’t actually get a payrise, they’re only getting what the company legally has to do. So still on MW but everyone else gets a payrise.

Lolliloo1 · 21/03/2025 07:18

2.5% better than a kick in the teeth and we've been lucky amd had some much higher ones over the past few years. Lots of colleagues are really annoyed, but I'm trying to be pragmatic in the current climate.

HR response is if you're not haply go elsewhere but with jobs market faily challenging I think people will stay but goodwill will reduce.

SardineJam · 21/03/2025 07:23

Average pay rise for us in UK was 4%

AuthorGirl1 · 21/03/2025 07:25

I've been told to expect 3.5% but I'm not convinced that'll happen!

frillygillymilly · 21/03/2025 07:26

National insurance is some hit so will likely lead to lower pay rises.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 21/03/2025 07:28

No idea as the unions are still battling it out. Once it’s decided we’ll get it as back pay in October anyway, 6 months after all of our bills have gone up 😡. That’s assuming it’s sorted before October!

LyricalGangsta · 21/03/2025 07:28

I get the payrise then just get whatever amount it was taken off my UC top up so I don’t get it

LyricalGangsta · 21/03/2025 07:30

And the pay rise isn’t paid till December despite it being an April thing, so you get a chunk in December then in January which is hard anyway, you get super stung for the April pay rise 👌🏻

WatershipUp · 21/03/2025 07:31

We had a pay freeze announced last week. No one’s happy but it was that or redundancies.

WoahThreeAces · 21/03/2025 07:34

2% for me and nothing for DH. Another year marching onwards and downwards!

Overthebow · 21/03/2025 07:44

We both got 3% which seems fairly standard this year in our sectors. It’s ok, not great but ok.

ItWasntMyFault · 21/03/2025 07:52

2.7% plus a bonus of between £600-£800 in June.

sunshineandshowers40 · 21/03/2025 07:54

I work for a charity and believe we are not getting a pay rise due to the increase in NI contributions.

This is the exact problem with the rise in NMW- it isn't a pay rise. When services and bills go up due to the knock on effect it will be a pay cut.

Radiatorvalves · 21/03/2025 07:55

I was made redundant recently so no pay rise for me. Have been told that pay rises at ex employer are on average 2%.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 21/03/2025 07:56

@Charcol have a look at this headline!! jobs for the boys right enough. they are also still working outside the council! I'm alright Jack!!

Summer strike warning as union reacts to near 20% pay rise for Angus councillors
A pay deal which takes the wage bill for elected members in Angus to more than £800,000 comes as local government union Unison is asking members nationally whether they want to move to a strike ballot over a 3% pay offer.

NHS then? I will wait with baited breath for the announcement!

Marmite27 · 21/03/2025 08:02

2.99% in comparison to 5% last year.

My bonus was over double last year though. So swings and roundabouts.

ikujslf · 21/03/2025 08:06

I think the government said 2.8% for civil service (can’t remember if that’s an external body or what the government is expecting…? No official announcements yet, it’s not finally decided)
