For my daughter if i claim pip and lcwra for myself? I know I can't claim carers element on uc but wondered about carers allowance. My eldest daughter claims carers allowance because she's my carer.

@GoogleWhacking well yeah when a child's screaming out for you it's hard to forget really isn't it?
Why are you questioning and judging me? And you can't claim carers allowance for multiple people. Maybe educate yourself on the matter before questioning!

That was my point... She is already doing it. I know she can't claim it but she deserves it. What you are doing for your child is just called parenting.

I am as entitled to post on here as anyone. Just because you don't like my answers doesn't mean I have to stop.

This is were the benefit system is wrong.

how the hell can some one claim carers for someone, when they have a carer themselves?

🙄

If their caring duties don’t contradict the areas they need care for themselves?

happyhemsby · 26/06/2024 14:12

@GoogleWhacking yes I know that's it's parenting. I didn't make the rules of carers allowance. If I'm entitled to it then I'm going to get it. Maybe have a read up on dla and what qualifys as caring before coming here with your views and opinions.

Going by your posts I've been missing out by not claiming for being a parent myself and caring for my children.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely look into that.

For goodness sake, it is ridiculous that it is even possible for you to consider that you can claim extra for caring for your own child whilst also getting what appears to be every other benefit. Personality disorder is considered treatable nowadays, it would be great if the funding was put into treating it rather than paying for carers to have carers and for children to have their own parents care for them.

What exactly is it that you do for 35 hours a week above normal parenting duties for your child?

happyhemsby · 26/06/2024 14:47

@GoogleWhacking god the ignorance is astonishing. Go claim then see how far you get.

No answer to my question then?

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 18:32

@GoogleWhacking the OP said her daughter gets DLA because she has a disability.
So her parenting situations are going to be different to yours.
She won't be doing "just normal parenting".

Well she gave examples that sound exactly like normal parenting....

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 18:35

@GoogleWhacking apologies in advance if you do actually have a child with disabilities - but seriously...taking care of a disabled child is never "normal".

Craftysue · 26/06/2024 18:46

You can claim it but I don't know if you would get any more money as it may affect your Universal Credit. Have a look on Turn2us website which has a benefit calculator and guidance on claiming. It's a national charity and normally pretty accurate

OP said "I was asking if I can claim carers for dd8 as I do all the things she won't let anyone else do ie dressing, bathing and night needs"

Every parent does this. I was a single parent. I had no one to help me.

My child also has ADHD. I also got him dressed, bathers and dealt with him at night. I didn't have anyone cooking my food nor did I get paid extra for it.

This expectation of getting more and more from the government is ridiculous.

Needmorelego · 26/06/2024 19:08

@GoogleWhacking well as I have said Carer's Allowance is a pretty pathetic amount of money (which I am very very grateful for) so I'm not going to argue with you and do disability top trumps.
I'll leave it at that.
Have a good evening 🙂

Quite frankly, the OP does not have to give you any examples at all. This is between her, and the department that pays her benefit.

Well she was the one asking the world. Maybe she should have just asked the DWP in the first place.

Indeed. At least then, she would not have had to deal with posters being very rude about things, that they are lucky they do not have first hand knowledge of.

Reading through this actually made my stomach turn..Judging and shaming a complete stranger who is seeking help and as she said has multiple issues some of which many on here can’t even comprehend. What a disgusting world we live in..A reminder that everyone has a story and some people’s worst than others- thank your lucky stars and have gratitude for what you have. Sorry to @happyhemsby for all these individuals who clearly have all their sh*t together and wonderful perfect lives.

I hope you ignore them all and do not take their harsh words to heart X Wish you the best X

I'm currently in full time employment but a low income so UC make up a bit...approx £380 ... I need to give up that job to become a full time carer for my disabled friend....so, if carers allowance becomes my only source of income (and I know 55p gets deducted for every £1) will I still get some UC?
