PREMIUM BONDS - MAY 2024

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2024 10:23

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

PB have been about since 1957

Been 30yrs in April 2024 - so 1994 since a million was then the highest prize

nsandi-corporate.com/news-research/news/30-years-premium-bonds-ps1-million-jackpots#

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to them hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 win £100k and £50 win £25k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1925 in prizes

If have £5k average luck is £175 winnings a year

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two

PB odds calculator below

moneymarvel.co.uk/calculators/premium-bonds/

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,925

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 2 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

Oh well , a month to get excited and then disappointed again

i’ve 4.2k in and i tend to win a 2/3 times a year. i had prizes jan and feb. I was on a roll….Nothing since 😂 still the excitement comes each month.

Sortingmyselfoutdayatatime · 02/07/2024 06:07

50 on approx 30k

Sadtosaythis · 02/07/2024 06:10

Nothing for me this month. Have won every month since June last year. I have about 40k.

Sunnnybunny72 · 02/07/2024 06:12

£1100 on £8k!
Can't believe it. Have won £1000 about two years ago too.
Made up!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/07/2024 06:14

£150 on FH.

cantwait4orsummer · 02/07/2024 06:14

Nothing for me again.

leafybrew · 02/07/2024 06:15

Congrats @Sunnnybunny72 - that's brilliant!

£50 here on £23k - waiting for a bigger amount....next month

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/07/2024 06:15

Wow @Sunnnybunny72 Congratulations

Wrapunzel · 02/07/2024 06:19

£25 on £22.5k here, bit disappointed.
Also I went to check dh's as he's a few k in now and his balance was £500 short, turns out I'd transferred it to Tax Free Childcare Blush both say NS&I in my banking list. Great admin eh?! Hmm

Aposterhasnoname · 02/07/2024 06:20

£250 on just over 42k. £1275 so far this year. Very happy with that.

spottydinosaur · 02/07/2024 06:22

My results aren't available yet but I've not won anything for a long time so I'm not hopeful. Only £3k holdings

Uninspiredusername · 02/07/2024 06:30

Nothing for me this month, or last month, or the one before that. Pffft

imadeitnice · 02/07/2024 06:34

£50 for me on £18,000

Feedbackloop · 02/07/2024 06:35

£125 on around £46k. It’s ok but not fantastic as we’ve only won £175 this year so far. Definitely below average returns for us

CaveMum · 02/07/2024 06:40

£125 for me and £150 for DH, both on full holdings.

Not brilliant but better than nothing. Will do my sums later to see where our return is hovering, but suspect it’s still around the 3% mark.

Well done those with better returns!

Metoo15 · 02/07/2024 06:41

£50 for us FH. Rubbish this year, currently running at 2% Were leaving them in another month then reinvesting somewhere else. We could have had a holiday with the money we’ve potentially lost.

evilharpy · 02/07/2024 06:47

£50 on £50k, poor show.

pinkfondu · 02/07/2024 06:48

Two wins, first since Feb, 1 x 50 & 1 x100, which now tips my holding into £11k.

Total wins this year, £425

Mybestusername · 02/07/2024 06:50

RockaLock · 01/07/2024 08:52

Wrt the picture in the app, I think we have concluded that if you won in the previous month, you get the new picture in the app around this time. But, it doesn't necessarily mean you have won this month - the picture changes regardless.

If you didn't win in the previous month, then you will have no picture at the moment - but that doesn't necessarily mean that you haven't won.

Nothing for me this month, so the updated picture doesn't mean a win. Oh well.

greengreyblue · 02/07/2024 06:58

£25 on £30k.
So that wasn’t us on the list.

Hippywannabe · 02/07/2024 06:58

2 x £50 here. Not bad, not brilliant.

TrappedPotato · 02/07/2024 06:59

Nothing for me again. I haven't won since April so was hoping for something this month!

drawnfrommemory · 02/07/2024 07:03

£100 for me on c £40k. It popped up as pending about 10:15 last night after I couldn’t log in to the blue app for about 5 mins.

£475 winnings in total on average of £40k bonds (I’ve taken some out this year) - below average interest rate, so I’m definitely thinking of withdrawing.

Wiaa · 02/07/2024 07:06

150 for me 175 for dh on fh

clary · 02/07/2024 07:07

Some great wins here well done all!
£225 for me on FH, good year so far
